The sad thing is this is some newly-branded dev, it used to be Danger Close, who made those mediocre/bad Medal of Honor games the last couple years (which resulted in EA putting MoH on the shelf for now).Remember when DICE was a good dev house?

After parting ways with former Assassin's Creed designer Patrice Desilets, Ubisoft has indefinitely suspended development on 1666, CEO Yves Guillemot said today during an investor call for the company's 2012-13 earnings report.
"After more than two months of discussions with [Desilets], we couldn't align our vision both on project development and team management," said Guillemot, "so consequently our collaboration has ended, and we have suspended 1666 for an undisclosed period of time."
Yeah, it kind of strikes me as like saying "there are just as many healthy options on McDonald's menu". There isn't much objectification of men in video games, the objectification that does exist* is tends to be more mild, and there's a huge lack of female characters that are well developed and not exploited. The "men are just as objectified" argument gives me the creeps.
It's not even the sex object thing, it's the complete missing of the fact that sexism (just like racism) is about a power-dynamic. A dude in his underwear onscreen comes with a lot less gender-role baggage as a default position.
That just seems surreal.Somehow even THIS seems like a power fantasy.
Abusive because they are giving the Ranger mode as DLC? Damn dude. Thats a little... over the top. It's annoying but...It was already mostly finished when THQ collapsed, so I'm happy that it managed to find a new home. I'm just disappointed that home is abusive.
That's only the launch shipment, which is the "Legendary Edition", I believe. Subsequent shipments will be normal editions and not have it included.Abusive because they are giving the Ranger mode as DLC? Damn dude. Thats a little... over the top. It's annoying but...
But actually, silly little thing I noticed, the version I've seen at 3 stores (and I bought one!) has the Ranger DLC included. So... ?
Anyway, the game is FAN-TASTIC. Buy this people. Buy it now.
I'm sure if you send Firaxis a 20 and a thank-you note, they'll take it.I kind of wish I'd bought XCOM: Enemy Unknown new, because I love it so much.
You're thinking of "re-mastered". HD just means that it will look 1:1 on an HDTV instead of upscaled and slightly blurry. So it should look essentially the same, just maybe a little crisper on a per pixel basis. Now, admittedly it's been a while since I've played FF8, but those screenshots from the Kotaku article don't look any more HD to me than the original game.
Ah, I stand corrected. You're thinking of "re-mastered". HD just means that it will look 1:1 on an HDTV instead of upscaled and slightly blurry. So it should look essentially the same, just maybe a little crisper on a per pixel basis.
Yeah, I guess I was hoping for a Black Mesa level of updated graphics.Resident Evil Remake = Re-mastered
Final Fantasy 8 HD = HD
Halo Anniversary = somewhere in the middle, somehow
I still hold Square's teasing us with the re-mastered opening of FF7 during the PS3 launch against them.Yeah, I guess I was hoping for a Black Mesa level of updated graphics.
I still don't get this. Square is just leaving money on the table not doing a remake of FF7.I still hold Square's teasing us with the re-mastered opening of FF7 during the PS3 launch against them.
I don't think they know how to make new games anymore.Maybe they shouldn't recycle old mediocre games and instead make new effort in reinventing their shit so their new games don't suck as much.
Also this, if they're going to redo any FF of the polygonal era, it should be VII or IX. They were easily the best of the PS1+ era.I'd LOVE to see an HD remake of FFIX. My only real problem with that game is that it was at a time where the game textures were outpacing the rendering power of the system, resulting in the textures on the models looking like crap.
I've said this before, and I know I'm in the minority, but I loved the hell out of FFVIIII think they said at some point that they didn't want to totally redo a game on that level because it'd look like they were creatively bankrupt.
Compared to what they're doing now I think that would have been the better option.[DOUBLEPOST=1369018007][/DOUBLEPOST]

I wouldn't mind them putting out an HD version, but I wouldn't want them to remaster it like the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil, because Square fucks up almost everything it touches. After playing The Third Birthday, it's clear Square's current misogynist head of development (whoever replaced Hironobu Sakaguchi) cannot do anything right.I would blow a dick for a remastered Parasite Eve
