[Question] TF2 Server

I've honestly yet to try Mann vs. Machine, so I'm down.

Could I also request that the server doesn't have instant respawn?

Instant respawn 32-player 2fort is also known as free-for-all deathmatch. I think in all my years of TF2ing I've only seen the intel capped twice.

You must have horrible spies then
Well, I do mostly play on pubs, yes.

But even so, after a spy picks up the intel, he's got to fight his way through the entire base, either going through the straight staircase and running into the most popular sentry spot in the level, or through the spiral, fighting off every member of the opposite team, who'll know exactly where he is. And every enemy he kills is going to respawn instantly and immediately come at him again. I don't care how good a spy you are, that's a pretty tall task.

You have to coordinate with your team. Have the spy down there in the flag room or near it ready and as the heavy/medic makes their push into the ramp room/primary spawn area have the spy grab the flag and head up the stairs as the heavy cleans up with hopefully a scout nearby the bridge area to pick up the flag I'd the spy dies. Or have the spy kill engi/sap the sent in the hay room as the scout comes through the loft then wait around for enemies to go down spiral and knife them after they do. That tge engine won't be able to get the next sent high enough before the scout gets to the top of the spiral and out of the grate room

Great plan when it works. 99/100 times, it won't. Especially on pubs.

The reason I don't like instant respawn is that it negates the work someone did to put down another player. By removing them temporarily from the playing field, it gives your team an advantage. Instant respawn means any kills are completely meaningless, especially in that final push to grab the intel or something because those killed will just pop right back up.

I agree, it just sucks to be the dead player waiting to respawn. Makes it less fun.

On the other hand, the fact that death plays a bigger penalty changes how you play, and can make people more cautious and methodical.

Again, less of a death match and more planning and teamwork.

Yeah, with 32 players, it pretty much doesn't matter - 3 engineers locks down a fort pretty thoroughly if the sentries are positioned correctly.. unless, as said above, you get the 1% experience where a medic and heavy and spy and demoman all co-operate in perfect harmony and patience. Which almost never happens.

I may - MAY - have to hold off on this. My wife is having issues at her work and we may be having money troubles really, really soon.

Honestly I don't know if the demand is there to justify going in on it when the financials are questionable.

I took donations before and the server didn't stay up the full year. I still owe you guys.

I agree with Gas. Real life first, TF2 second.
Agreed.

I haven't played TF2 in a while, so I hopped on to see what drops I could get. I finally got one of the Pyro items that allows Pyrovision, and damn it is trippy to play a level in Pyroland. I wish I could play Medic while seeing the world like that.

Is it too late to learn?
If you can play an FPS, you can play TF2. At least, to some degree, and you'll pick up the specifics over time.

Actually, I can't speak for Mann Vs Machine. I don't understand that mode myself. If we do start a server to play that, I'm going to have to ask for help learning what to do myself. It seems a lot more complicated to me than any of the other game modes.

Mann vs Machine is just horde mode, right? So it should be just like Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor, or ME3 Multi

Left 4 Dead doesn't have any sort of upgrades to purchase, nor does it have a class system. I never played Killing Floor long enough to figure out the upgrade system there, and I've never played ME3 at all.

ME3 multiplayer has a leveling class system, consumables, and upgrading equipment.
