Games on SALE!

It's fun, but it's not as in-depth as you'd want it to be.
Can you elaborate on that? And specifically, would you say it's ten bucks (2x$5 on flash sale) worth of fun? Don't worry about spoilers if that's what's holding your tongue.

Fable 3 was the worst of the bunch imo.
I've never played ANY of the fables... so what made Fable 3 particularly bad?

And is Baulder's Gate worth getting? I know that's probably a sacrilage to ask but I've never played it.
Hrm, what to compare it to... Did you play the original Neverwinter Nights?

Baldur's Gate is surprisingly robust and open world for a 90s RPG. While I wouldn't classify it as required playing, it was a great game when it came out. I'm uncertain as to how well it would have aged, as even with a textural facelift it's still a fixed-perspective isometric game with a few slightly unintuitive UI features. But once you get used to it, it's a good story and has some of the most memorable characters in video gaming history. ("GO FOR THE EYES, BOO! GO FOR THE EYES!")

Fable isn't a good series to begin with. It's not TERRIBLE mind you.. it just lacks any of the depth and intelligence in design that most Western RPGs have. Virtually any battle can be one by button mashing. You won't change your weapons often because just about any weapon is good for any job. This is ESPECIALLY true in Fable 3 where your choices for weapons are Sword, Two-handed sword, pistol, and rifle.

Co-Op is just you and a friend playing the normal game... except nothing gets scaled up and the game is pathetically easy even by yourself. It's just not very fun when you and your partner aren't making any effort at all.

Seriously, if your going to skip Fable 3, skip it because it's just not very good. Not because it's co-op is kinda lame.

Alrighty then, a pass it is. Thanks.

I just now discovered Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is for sale on Steam. It's also on sale, but that didn't matter to me - yoink! How did I not know they carried this?!

You didn't opt for the LucasArts Adventure pack with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Loom and The Dig as well?

Last day of the sale and Skyrim DLC never went over 40% off and Prison Architect never hit a price I wanted to pay. Oh well.
I thought tomorrow was the last day of the sale.

Oh yeah, and I completely echo you on Prison Architect. 34%?! ON YOUR BIKE.

I grabbed Prototype 1/2 and Human Revolution, I'm pretty content.

Kerbal Space Program's the main temptation for the final day, but at only 40% off I don't think I'll get it.

I didn't really pick up much this sale. I got DMC: Devil May Cry, but only at 50% off, and both Lego Harry Potter games, at, like 30% off (but they were cheap to begin with).

My total haul this sale:
Dead Light
Organ Trail: Director's Cut
KOTR2
System Shock 2
The Walking Dead
Witcher 1&2
Evoland

I'm pretty stoked with the turnout. While granted not the triple A games I was hoping to snag, still really happy about this.

Except for Dead Light and Organ Trail, I already owned all those from previous sales :p

They were games I knew I should have owned/played already but my list is so freakin long... I just made an exception this sale.

Oh and I already finished Evoland. It was very much worth the $5 for the trip down memory lane. It's a perfect sendup to RPGs through the 80-late90s. However, due to it's very short length, I can't imagine having paid more than it.

Steam is saying it's the last day today.
Yeah, I guess when I read it was over the 22nd, I bet it'll be over at noon, since it started at noon last week. So the last sales are up now.

I, too, had a much more reserved sale this time... Got a copy of Crusader Kings 2 for my father, the Borderlands 2 season pass for myself and the little woman, impulse bought the universe sandbox for 2 bucks, and snagged an extra gift copy of Orcs Must Die 2 just to have something to give somebody for their birthday or whatever. I'd been hoping to pick up 2 or 3 more titles, but the sales just didn't come down far enough. Maybe next time Skyrim/Kerbal/Prison/Trackmania/Payday2.

My haul wasn't much this time. Most of the offered games were either ones I owned or - more often than not - games that my notebook can't run. I almost got Civ V a few times, but the demo didn't run very smoothly and some of the DLC had higher requirements. I also went back and forth on getting more Sims 3 DLC, like Pets and University, while it was on a featured sale, but I realized I just don't play the game much. Still, I got:

The Cave
McPixel
To the Moon
Botincula
Sid Meier's Pirates
Reus
You Don't Know Jack

So, my haul... otherwise known as "The latest addition to the ever-growing backlog"

McPixel
Duke Nukem 3D
Just Cause 2
Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition (get this so we can make a HF league!)
System Shock 2
Fallout New Vegas Ultimate (already owned base game, was cheaper to buy ultimate for the dlc)
Magicka DLC Bundle
Evoland
Payday: The Heist
Cthulhu Saves the World & Breath of Death VII Doublepack*
Fallout 2*
Time Gentlemen, Please!*
Razor2 Hidden Skies*
Night Sky*
Gnomoria

*all of these were under a dollar, with the exception of Fallout 2 which was $1.99. Though I believe this was a pricing mistake, in my favor!

Galactic Civilizations 2 and Borderlands 2. Thassit.

None of my wishlist ever hit daily deal, flash sale or community choice (I think one was in the community choice, but didn't win the vote so something that had already been a daily deal and flash saled once already could get another shot or some dumb shit or why the Steam community is fucking stupid).

Oh, I did get Amnesia for a buddy who just bought a gaming PC, likes horror games and plays the thing on a 50 inch plasma in his basement. I want him to shit his pants.

[DOUBLEPOST=1374489057][/DOUBLEPOST]
I'm sad I missed Prototype 2 on the flash sale. I loved the first one.
I didn't play much of it, but I did not like it near as much as the first.

I have such a backlog and nothing spurred my wallet. I nearly bought New Vegas but decided against it. I did score a free copy of Dear Esther from Ravenpoe so that was awesome.[DOUBLEPOST=1374509740][/DOUBLEPOST]Also I could never beat the first Prototype :(

An interesting Humble Bundle:

Saints Row 2 and 3
Risen 2: Dark Waters
Sacred 2 Gold

Pay more than the average ($4.89 at time of writing) and you get the Saints Row 3 DLC, as well as Dead Island GOTY.

Pay more than $25 and get Dead Island: Riptide. (lol)
SR 2&3&Sacred 2 for as littel as $1 - a completely ridiculous steal. All the SR3 DLC for a total of $5 - still a great bargain. $20 extra for Riptide? Yeah, no. Not even if it was $5 extra :p

Is it all Saint's Row DLC, or just the main missiony stuff like you'd get with a season pass? This is literally the sticking point of me getting that or not.

If you click on the complete package, there should be another link that lists all the DLC it includes. I was looking at it earlier, but didn't bother to check against all available DLC.

Here is the list of all the DLC that is included in the Saint's Row: The Third - The Full Package:

  • Saints Row: The Third - Genkibowl VII
  • Saints Row: The Third - The Trouble with Cones
  • Saints Row: The Third - Gangstas In Space
  • Saints Row: The Third - Explosive Combat Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - FUNTIME! Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Genki Girl Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Horror Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Invincible Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Money Shot Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Nyte Blayde Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Penthouse Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Shark Attack Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Special Ops Vehicle Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Warrior Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Witches and Wieners Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Z Style Pack
  • Saints Row: The Third - Steelport Gangs Pack (Part of Gangstas In Space)
It contains anything and everything that had been released before the "Full package" cd came out, with the exception of one clothes pack.

So, apparently the bonus games that often get added later to the Humble Bundle has been found out:

Sacred Citadel
Metro2033
Risen

Just putting it out there in case anyone is interested and wants to beat the average right now.

Is it wrong that I'm thinking of getting this, even though my notebook won't run them? I could have them now, super cheap, for the inevitable time when I get a good gaming computer.

For anyone that was interested during the steam sale but didn't think the discount was enough, RPG Maker VX Ace is on sale for $23.99 on steam, 66% off.

From Gaming Everything, info about Dragon Age Inquisition.

GOD DAMN IT, it sounds good.

- BioWare listened to feedback on previous games
- “A lot of the decisions we’re making are about Dragon Age and what this generation of RPGs will look like.”

Story

- Game begins as Thedas is in chaos
- Chantry and the mages are at war
- The Seekers of the Truth and Templars are no longer tied to Chantry rule
- Ferelden continues to recover from the darkspwan Blight that ended 10 years ago
- Orlais is involved with a civil war
- Tear in the sky links the real world to the Fade
- Magic and demons come from Fade
- Rip allows demons to cross freely instead of using a mage host
- Demons/abominations are running free all over
- With everything going on, “there is a suspicious level of chaos in anticipation of this event”
- Reinstitute the Inquisition
- This is an organization that doesn’t answer to any outside power
- Inquisition puts aside politics and extracts answers
- “…about looking into what conspiracies happen, what kind of dastardly deeds could occur, when people are weak and naturally torn apart”

Inquisitor

- Your hero acts as the head of the Inquisition
- Lead the organization rather than controlling a foot soldier
- You’re left as the only survivor early on, which leads to this ascension
- Create and guide the Inquisitor however you please
- 3 classes: warrior, rogue, and mage
- At least 3 races: human, elf, dwarf
- No pre-set name
- Fully voiced
- Can be male/female
- Events take place as you perform them, not being relayed by another character
- Will need to overcome resistance, but this becomes easier as the Inquisition gains more power/respect
- Inquisition’s reputation/strength go up as you finish objectives, gain items, help others

World

- Inquisition has a long reach
- Visit multiple large locations
- Several different regions
- Structural style like Dragon Age: Origins
- Access key story beats by reaching certain levels of power
- Explore to achieve that power
- Collect magical relics, solve mysteries, fight dragons, help others
- Don’t need to do everything
- Different resources to acquire better equipment and continue the story
- Won’t always be able to move from one area to another seamlessly
- “each of the areas we’re building is larger than anything we’ve built before”
- No repetitive environments
- Areas include a bog, desert, mountain range, can be explored freely in third-person
- Can take on unique quests by coming across things like an arcane device that lets you pinpoint the location of magic items
- Locations are like self-contained open worlds
- Each has a bunch of items to find and content to experience during day and night
- Game will have a mount system
- This will be more involved than just riding a horse around
- Very little is scaled to your level
- Can encounter monsters that are much more powerful than you
- Freedom is big, but BioWare as a story to tell

Frostbite

- Huge areas are made possible due to the move to Frostbite
- “We’re very happy with what we can do with the technology.”
- Will have some destructibility, game has a bigger focus on building
- Having a mage allows you to reassemble a crumbled footbridge to reach a new area
- Convert a ruined desert outpost into an Inquisition stronghold
- “If you destroy something, you can construct something.”
- Frostbite 3 allows the team to develop more easily on five platforms at once
- Better visuals on PS4/Xbox One than PS3/360
- Content being kept the same
- “Frostbite 3 is intended to bridge the gap between current-gen and next-gen”

PC

- Will be optimized for the platform
- “The PC actually is different, especially from a controls standpoint.”
- Caters to mouse and keyboard, unlike its predecessor’s tradition

Battles

- Will encounter lots of resistance
- Battle pace lies between Dragon Age 1/2
- Not always a pause-and-play affair, but not always filled with tons of action
- Directly control a character and you’ll notice control similarities to Dragon Age II
- Switch between all characters in your party at will
- Choose AI behaviors for allies if you’d like
- Commands are performed right away with a button push
- BioWare looking to make things less frantic and more deliberate
- Slowing down the speed of attacks while also creating enemies that force players to examine the battlefield
- “We’ve got that mesh of action and RPG.”
- Enemies have specialized roles that work together
- Better AI for enemies
- Enemies seem to make planned attacks based on their strengths and work together logically
- Players have a number of skill trees, specializations, abilities
- Classes have their own powers with tactical significance
- Party members can work together

More world details

- Areas will change based on what time it is
- Weather impacts exploration
- Rain can make a bog muddy, making travel slower
- Still has classic enemies including ogres, elves, qunari

Friends/foes

- Dialogue/story sequences are the best way to learn about your allies and their abilities
- This can also be done to a lesser extent in battle
- Vivienne: Inquisitor mage who was in line to hold the position of first encharter in the Circle of Orlais
- She wasn’t able to take the osition due to the Orlesian civil war
- Writers analyze the story’s main themes and conflicts, then create certain characters around them
- Not all characters are created so that you’ll like them
- Other allies and their loyalties are currently unknown
- Learn early on that there’s someone behind the demon breach and resulting chaos
- Won’t learn who you’re dealing with early on
- Cassandra and Varric from Dragon Age II are playable party members
- Morrigan won’t be a party member
- Morrigan’s role seems to be more than just a cameo

Crafting system

- Use materials from around the world and enemies you defeat to make customized armor
- “Crafting in Inquisition is about customizing yourself, your character, your looks…”
- You can, technically, eventually create any colored version of the armor your start out with on par with what you find late in the game
- Characters will keep their look, but the armor will have huge influence on how they look

Choices

- Will need to make choices as problems develop
- Not always about dark choices
- BioWare is looking for players to think about potential consequences and deal with them if they happen
- Dialogue wheel similar to that of Dragon age II lets you make choices
- Some improvements
- Optional addition being added to the wheel for more clarity
- Choices have an impact throughout the world
- “Loose ends are a constant problem… We have a responsibility to resolve at least some of them if we’re going to introduce new ones…”
- Choices involve themes, mysteries from previous Dragon Age games
- Game will offer clarity on things such as Red Lyrium, Grey Wardens’ activities, Flemeth, Morrigan’s fate
- BioWare working on the issue of bringing over previous choices in Inquisition
- “It’s very important to people, and it’s very important to us. We don’t want people to feel like they can’t buy a new console or change the platform they’re buying this game on simply because they want to make sure their saves are maintained.”

Multiplayer

- Not confirmed/denied
- “it was surprising how well it was received in Mass Effect, and we were really happy with how that worked out…”

We’ll keep this post updated with additional details…
