The maze takes a while to reset. They're picking items because they're planning on taking another route out of the maze, most likely the jade teapot.

But the Teapot is what will allow them to escape, so she has to choose it.

That's the jist of it. But since they took out PsiMinMax by having him win, there is no other way for them to get out short of winning the maze. Considering they've had over a million attempts to do this already and only won because of outside help and pity from another team, this is basically their only way out.

You only get one thing if you leave via the winners circle, right? These guys are leaving from another means, right? So the normal rules shouldn't have to apply.

It does, that's why the other Kin said that if they use that to escape, she will never be able to return to her village because the teapot was the only way to get there.

I don't think she can be slimy. Scales are a natural way of making sure moisture doesn't seep out, so Ruby would be a two-faced, dry bitch.

Let me be clear that this is loving outrage on my part. I ship Kinmax, but this is damn good storytelling. My heart has been broken in the best way, and as much as I hate that this hurt is being done to Kin and Minmax, I also think Thunt is doing a fantastic job of storytelling and I wouldn't have it any other way.
