My inner four-year-old is going to Hell for laughing so hard at this.
If I were to stick with cardboard, I would cut that filling piece with a bit of a plus sign pattern to help stave off collapse.
The inroad parts are cut much thinner to still allow contact when trod, but they help brace the center so it doesn't collapse while still allowing the center area to trigger the switch.
Actually, those braces should probably be a little shorter, but you get the idea.

There is a part in the bottom of my shriveled black jaded heart that secretly hopes that this whole Miley Cyrus thing going on right now really is just a publicity stunt on her part. I think we've had more than enough of the Disney kid trainwrecks. And honestly, regardless of how much her chosen medium is terrible, the girl can actually sing without being autotuned to hell and back.
