Poor Ottawa! The two times I've been there, I didn't think it was boring. It was surprising clean for a major city, though.

There's nothing inexpensive about living on the "the island". Every one of those descriptors for Edmonton is correct.

I've only lived in Victoria and Windsor and at least compared to Windsor it is definitely not cheap here. Not sure how it could be considering we need to ship almost everything here.

Still wouldn't ever move back to Windsor.

I grew up in Victoria, and never found prices to be that high (particularly when compared to living in the maritime provinces). Except for housing. Housing is insanely expensive.

Housing was mostly what I was talking about, both rent or buying one here is atrocious. Granted it's beautiful but still. Gas prices are generally 10-20 cents more than Ontario when I ask those back home. Most of the food is slightly more expensive as well. It's still all worth it.

i am visiting my family back home, thankfully. but I woke up to no power in my apartment yesterday and had to call around to find somewhere with power
o that I could have breakfast. the ice storm did some crazy damage. here are some pictures I took just on my way to the breakfast place.

Ice is heavy, kids.
That was pretty much how most of southern MI looked, too. I can only imagine the traffic tie-ups.

Power may be out for three days in some areas, all police officers have been called it, nonessential driving is restricted and the Mayor won't call a state of emergency (because this would place the Deputy Mayor in charge of Council) or ask the province for help.

yesterday morning they were reporting 250 000 without power. by dinner last night they were saying 400 000. trees cant take the weight of the ice and are coming down and snapping wires and ezploding transformers faster than the repair workers can fix the situation. they were saying it'd be 72 hours yesterday. I dont know what they are predicting now but they have apparently extended it.[DOUBLEPOST=1387828745,1387828551][/DOUBLEPOST]also I pooped before I left for my sister's place but without running water couldn't flush the toilet.. my roommate is still there but if power isnt back by tomorrow then our apartment is going to smell awful when I get back on Friday.

Bucket of snow on the heater/fire, wash face in it, use to flush afterwards. Huzzah :p

(what do you mean "living in snow" isn't the same as "crappy camping in snow"? :p)
