[Movies] The Upcoming Movies Trailer Thread

Now, this looks terrible. I don't mean the movie itself (that's just a given) but the effects themselves. I hope those are just early unfinished special effects because holy shit this looks cheap and shitty.
AHAHAHA, I hope you're wrong and that's the final product. Some of that was embarrassingly cheap-looking.

I loved the Sly Cooper games, so I really hope this is good. I also just found out today that they are doing a Ratchet and Clank movie too.

I never played any of the Ratchet and Clank games, but I've been told they're good.
If these get made before The Goon gets made I will be sad.

Why? The games are multi-million dollar, widely recognizable franchises while The Good remains a small-time, barely known niche, pretty controversial comic book. The former is much easier to sell to Hollywood execs.

I don't like the reality your sarcasm reminds me of. Go away, and let me live in my fantasy world.

They aren't. The movies are still early in their production phase and if there is one thing I can say about the transformers films is they have the budget to do amazing VFX.

Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For

I don't know. For some reason, I'm just not feeling it here. I loved the first one, too, and have been waiting for this new one. Maybe it's the really quick cuts instead of holding onto those iconic shots a little longer. Maybe it's that those iconic shots don't feel as iconic as they did in the trailer for the first one.

Or maybe it's largely because this script was written by Frank Miller. The Miller of yesterday who did iconic runs on Daredevil, Batman, and even his Sin City work was a fantastic writer - if a bit misogynistic. But he's 50x worse today, both in his comics and in film. Any kind of great style or depth he had in his writing is pretty much gone. And that's the Miller that's wrote this script. So, colour me intrigued, but worried.

What was awesome about the trailer for the first movie (and the actual first movie) was how it waited just a beat long enough to let the audience *revel* in its spectacle.

I know trailers lie and everything, but I'm just not getting the same vibe from this one, and the vibe I am getting is "sped-up wannabe hack work". If I did not see the stars in the trailer, I'd have been convinced it was some other lazy creative team trying to crib the original style but make it "fresh" by adding bad dub step.

Hopefully, this trailer is lying.

It's the "Director Frank Miller" that's really killing it for me.
The first one had Frank Miller billed as a director as well. Robert Rodriguez was so dedicated to bringing the comics to life that he considered Frank Miller to be just as involved behind the camera as him.

He co-directed the first didn't he?

Man, I had no interest in it, but then I see Powers Boothe and I could listen to him talk all day.
He did co-direct. He was also credited as a writer considering how much of it was just lifting what Frank put on the page to the screen.

He got a director credit, but Quentin Tarantino did one scene and that was more actual directing than Frank Miller did. He was more of a creative consultant.

Which is what I'm hoping is the case with Sin City 2, but Miller did direct a movie since then, The Spirit, so I don't know if he wanted to have more control this time. Anyone who saw The Spirit can tell you that'd be a bad thing.

While I won't watch it (for a few years until it's something my daughter can enjoy) it actually looks good. Plus (OHGODHEREHEGOES) I think it's fantastic to have a diverse cast doing something like this. American ain't all little curly haired white girls anymore and the lack of minorities in lead roles is still pretty shameful.

I would to say that changing Morbuck's name to Stacks bugs me, but it is a more subtle pun and its an actual name so there's that. Looks good.

While Cameron Diaz can never come close to being Carol Burrnett, but I can easily see her as a self-involved shrew.

It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter that Cameron Diaz can never live up to Carol Burrnett. It doesn't matter if they name him Warbucks or Stacks or "I'm in this movie so it's awesome".
Just doesn't matter.

...

Tim Curry won't be the villain so it's gonna fail.

A sort of new trailer with an intro where Emma Watson is adorable.

Man, I wanna see it for Clint Mansell's score more than anything.
