Things you hate that everyone else seems to like?

When did people start calling club soda "Sparkling Water?"

Anyway... good for settling stomachs and cleaning stains.

Why the hell would you buy a glass bottle of the stuff anyway? You can pick up a liter of the stuff in a plastic bottle for less than a buck.

Same reason people paid money for Chilean Sea Bass when it was just Patagonian Toothfish by another name. Branding and marketing.

Well, thankfully I'm not alone on these, but:

Breaking Bad.
George R. R. Martin as an author. I like the GoT show, but his writing style drives me up a fricken wall. There's just something about it that makes me read his books as though he's writing from the point of view of a pretentious prick. I like the story, but I cannot read it anymore.
Guinness.

Hark! A Vagrant. Can't stand it. I think it got a smile out of me once and that's about it.

My wife hates ham. Hot or cold, really.

I think we've this discussion almost as many times as @Bowielee and I have argued over Civil War.
I'm pretty sure you're right. In fact as I'm posting this reply, the wheel of destiny is compelling me to comment about how I actually like Gary Frank and his crazy-eyed psyhcos that he draws.

You mean his army of beaver people? Seriously, the man can't draw a natural looking smile.

Alan Moore.

I liked V for Vendetta and The Watchmen wellenough but if there was ever an over rated writer...it's him. I think V was probably the most original thing he ever wrote.

I mean...he's a fan fic writer. He is a PAID fan fic writer. And not even a very interesting one. I've read fan fics that have moved me to tears, for gods sakes...but Moore seems to just want to disgust me.

Moore's one of the few writers in the industry that has tried to do more with the medium than just telling a story. He's tried adding new literary techniques. Mind you, he did this almost primarily with Watchmen, but the fact that he did was astonishing. There are new things about Watchmen that I still catch every time I read it. Like the Rorschach issue being almost a literal Rorschach, with pages mirroring each other.

How can you call his stuff like Top 10, Promethea, and Tom Strong fan fiction, though? They were entirely new characters. Yes, they might have been partly influenced or inspired by other works, but so is almost everything in literature. He also did more with Swamp Thing than anyone ever considered before.

And really, most comic book writers today - at least the ones working on the household names from DC and Marvel - are glorified fan fiction writers. They're just writing stories from someone else's work. Superman and Batman has basically just been fan fiction since their respective original creators stopped working on the books.

I'm guessing you never read an issue of Swamp Thing? or Killing Joke?
Oooo...he did do those didn't he?

Hm. Killing Joke was fantastic.

I haven't read much Swamp Thing but I do remember it fondly...and it kick started Hellblazer which is one of my fav comics so there's that.[DOUBLEPOST=1395698638,1395698245][/DOUBLEPOST]

True, true.

I guess I may be bitter. Things like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Lost Girls, From Hell and a few others left a sour taste in my mouth. I was...cool on Tom Strong and never read Promethea.

The man himself also kind of gives me the heebie jeebies.

So, yeh...maybe it's unfounded but I still can't get over that hurdle of not liking him.

I'm sorry, but I hate the Games of Thrones, can't watch it... I know lots of people love it. But what's to like about it, really?

Can you tell me why people like it? Because I can't find anything likeable in this series. Actually, I hate it with a passion. Can't read it, can't watch it.
I would, but there's already a 1300 post discussion on the intricacies of the books and show just a couple posts down.

It is an intriguing and engaging sociopolitical fantasy that has no happily ever after, which makes it fresh and interesting. It has fully rounded, deep characters that often do not conform to standard fantasy archetypes (other than the Dothraki). Also it has boobs and fucking.

I love Alan Moore, but he can be hit or miss. He's also batshit crazy and I think he might be a witch. Or rather, I think he thinks he might be a witch. But I give him credit for being crazy inventive in his endeavors, and when you're doing stuff like that, you're going to miss the mark from time to time. But when he hits it, goddamn he hits it.

He is? Citation needed.
Read his work, and his comments on anyone in the industry. Considering how much of his work is based on or about other peoples creations (~98%) he really has no leg to stand on when he accuses the entire industry of just ripping off his work and characters. Especially when he claims to have not read anything in the last 20 years (on accounts of everyone being hacks who are just copying him I suppose).

As for the sexist thing, I just gather it from the way he writes his women in the stuff of his I've read. It's not quite Frank Miller bad, but man it's close.
