[Movies] The Upcoming Movies Trailer Thread

Honestly I would probably be more :fu: about this, but I've been trying not to rage about bad movies, I just avoid them and the pointless stress. I also have the amazing new cartoon series, and corrsponding comic, the IDW timeline comic, and all the classic comics that are being reprinted. Along side the DVDs of the old show and previous 4 movies, I have plenty of Turtles material available that is good to great.

Similar reaction from me. This looks bad, I won't waste my energy on it. I'll just enjoy the goodness of the current animated series.

I saw a clip of the trailer on tv this morning. Gaaah, those turtles are the things nightmares are made of! I think they went a little too heavy on the "mutant" part. Also, didn't Megan Fox call Michael Bay "Hitler" and end that symbiotic relationship?

Yeah, but he was just a producer of this.

...Which is a worse thing, because most of Platinum Dunes' stuff has been bad. They did the remakes of The Amityville Horror, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street. They're also making this TMNT film and are working on a movie based upon the Ouija board.

Aw c'mon! Michael Bay wouldn't take something and make it look like over CGI shit! The only thing that saved this for me was the last little bit where he took off the mask. If it keeps the innate humor of the turtles, it might be worth it.

tl;dr: I think it'll suck but I'll give them my money.
Yeah, it looks… okay I guess? The only moment that I found charming was the very end. I actually laughed.

It's the lips that make it weird.

I have to admit I laughed at the mask thing though, that's pretty much Mikey's personality so at least there's that.

So, weren't some of you arguing a few minutes ago about the need to see a movie before complaining?

Yes and no. We can certainly base some thoughts on the trailers and actors/directors, but we're talking about how good/bad we think the movie will be, not the social or religious ramifications of the content. Bit of a difference.

We can make pre-judgements on whether we'll see the movie or not. Notice how we're saying it looks like crap, not that it is crap. For all we know, it'll be awesome. Trailers are for this very reason: to give people a general idea about the movie and whether they'll be interested in it or not.

And for the record, the Transformers movies have all had amazing trailers. And they were all crap.

I will admit that tmnt was not a life changing event during my childhood even if I didn't miss one single episode, and I like the new series in nickelodeon. But I don't see anything terribly wrong with that trailer.

I think it has more to do with the way that the turtles are portrayed and hulking menaces. Also Michael Bay, what's her name, and a ton of over-the-top CGI effects. The only thing that held the humor and light-heartedness of the original was the final line. So there's hope.

Also they've apparently made extremely non-trivial changes to the origin story. April O'Neal's father had no place in the Turtles' origin, and it's already been said earlier they've changed them to aliens.

Travesty.

8-10 clear views of what's her name, and 3 clear views the "stars" of the movie. If Bay had a hand in it, it will be ALL about April, and the turtles will show up for 15 minutes. Because CGI is expensive.

reminder that "Producer Michael Bay" does not frame one shot of this film and very likely wasn't on set one day

but it's a moot point since Michael Bay singlehandedly made Transformers 3 watchable and made Pain & Gain pretty fucking amazing

To be fair, April's father plays a major role in the current cartoon series and that works pretty well.

Honestly? I think it's got potential. Let's be real here, TMNT has always had a spotty track record just like Transformers, and was built as a toy commercial before anything else. If this can breathe any kind of new life into the franchise like the first live-action TMNT did, I'm on board.

Actually, before anything else, it started as a parody comic of Frank Miller's work at the time (his run on Daredevil, for example). It exploded into a cartoon toy commercial shortly after, but still, it didn't 100% start intending to be another huge marketing cash cow.

True, my mistake. The original Eastman/Laird stuff definitely wasn't a cash cow like the 80's cartoon era.

Fixed that for ya. :D
First time I GMed at a con was in Fargo, ND. I did a run of the TMNT game and the players were all people I had never met that had never played the game. They proceeded to to some crazy shit that ended with them getting into a running battle/chase scene through the city, firing wildly back & forth with the bad guys until they (the bad guys) tried a very difficult maneuver and failed their driving roll. The crash was spectacular but a few of the baddies got out still in fighting shape and it was on.

They hardly used the combat mechanics and instead used all sorts of skills that people have but never use. It was the most awesome single game session I've ever run. The players immediately formed a gaming group and we gamed together until I moved.

I fucking love the TMNT RPG.

I will say, of all the things that look bad about the trailer, I'm most bugged by the fact that they decided to take Oroku Saki, the Shredder, and turn him into a white guy named Eric Sachs and played by William Fichtner.

So this movie should not have Charlie's support then. If he has a problem with yellow face, he should have a problem with white-washing/racebending.

Ok, probably going to have to see that one too. Even though it feels like they just showed us all the gags in the movie.

Megan Fox and Michael Bay probably don't have any bad blood between the two of them. However when Megan Fox decided to liken working with Bay on Transformers as working for Hitler, Executive Producer Steven Spielberg was a might upset.

I'm going to give this movie a shot. Just like I gave all three Transformers movies shots.
I enjoyed the first Transformers movie. It has it's problems, but it's not catastrophically bad. And yes the look of the turtles isn't all that flattering. Mikey kinda looks like someone beat the shit out of Shrek and left him to die.
