But Gas ...

Rock monsters.
Actually, from what I hear, nitpickers have less problems with the "rock monsters" because there are biblical references to giants living on old testament Earth. True, not specifically in the Noah chapters, but it's not as much of a stretch.

Actually, the "rock monsters" in Noah are the Watchers, angels that basically chose to disobey God and go to Earth.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

This popped up on Netflix recently - possibly not for the first time, but the first time I remember seeing it.

Holy hell do I regret not seeing this sooner. It's hilariously awesome with a really clever, well-written script and some great surprises. Highly recommended.

I just got back from Winter Soldier. Damn, that was a great flick. When *not if* you go to see it, make sure to stick around for all the credits!

Noah

The missus wanted to see this. It was okay. It tried to do too much and please too many people, and probably ended up disappointing all of them.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Well now, that was pretty great. In fact, I think it might be better than the first Cap movie. And that's saying something because I loved the hell out of the first one.

In a lot of ways, this felt a lot like a Bourne movie, only with superheroes. Superhero espionage, if you will. This isn't spoiling much (spoiler: Cap beats up bad guys), but Cap beats the hell out of thugs, it felt just he was Jason Bourne, except his kicks sent thugs flying ten plus feet.

But yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of this and would argue it's neck and neck with Avengers for top Marvel movie.

If I had one complaint, it was the after-the-credits teaser. Not the during-the-credits one, that was fine. It was...

Showing Bucky in the museum. Why not just include that in the aftermath montage at the end?

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Could definitely do with less Shakey cam.
Glad we are finally getting a little bit of Black Widow as an actual CHARACTER with some personality finally.
Falcon was fantastic.
Some bits that were pushing the boundaries of corniness, even for a superhero movie (But maybe I only felt that way because the movie did a pretty good job of convincing us it was actually an espionage- political thriller).

All in all, loved it.

Now, four months until Guardians.

Because that's not Bucky, not yet, that's the Winter Soldier coming to grips with how he's been programmed. Bucky is something, a memory, that is at that point, fighting against his brainwashing.

Yeah, I get that. That's obvious. I'm talking narrative structure in terms of why it was placed at the very end.. It's obvious at the end that the brainwashing spell was being broken because he saved Steve's life. So why not show him during the montage, like with the guy who will eventually become Crossbones? It just seems like a waste of an end-credits scene. Or at the very least, they could've switched the two credits scenes and left the Avengers one until the end.

I rewatched Sinister while I was working last night. I was really surprised at how unnerving it was the second time around. It was seriously disturbing the first time but usually the second time I watch a movie it doesn't freak me out. And that soundtrack… fuck. Just amazingly creepy. And using Boards of Canada on the end there? Gaaaaaaaaaaah.

I don't know if it will go into my top list of horror movies but the murders in this movie and the overall atmosphere are… top notch terrifying.

Captain 2: Watergate Boogaloo was pretty awesome. Robert Redford oooooowwwwwnnnnnzzzz. And the big action setpieces weren't annoying.

Also, despite me claiming I'm lukewarm on S.H.I.E.L.D., I couldn't help find myself wondering how all the shit going down in this movie would affect those goobers. Damn you, Marvel, you win this one.

Well, my fiancee has been convalescing from a major surgery so we've been watching movies.

American Hustle - Fun movie but they could've cut it down in length a bit. Started to drag pretty badly in the middle. Great performances by the principles though.

Anchorman 2 - Not nearly a fun as the first. Actually started with a story that just devolved into a bunch of stringed together gags. Definitely had some laughs but wait for cable.

The Wolverine - Big meh on this one. Sad they took a great story and mish-mashed it with other not so great stories. Also very disappointed in their versions of Viper and especially Silver Samurai.... so sub-par compared to the comics versions. Not sure how FOX thinks they can spin off a Universe style franchise of these characters if they keep botching them so badly.

A Band Called Death. Freaking fantastic movie and it's sad such an innovative band was forgotten and hidden from the world for so long. If you like punk music at all, you should really check this out. Excellent music and story.

Cap 2 was fucking awesome. Action was solid, Robert Redford was great, and Black Widow got some much-needed characterization. Falcon was cool, too.

I'm curious to see how this will affect SHIELD this week, as last week had sort of a lead-in to the movie

with May's spying on the team and Hand's order at the end of the episode. Now that SHIELD's dead and Hydra's outed, what does that mean for Coulson's team?

I think the comic (specifically Brubaker's run) partly spoiled me because I kept expecting
Redford to be revealed as the Red Skull.
I'm a little disappointed it didn't happen, but it was already a busy enough movie.

Yay, Captain America 2. Exactly the quality you'd expect from a Marvel movie.

And I have to say, I checked this thread beforehand , saw that Charlie liked it, and thought that was interesting since he doesn't generally go in for the Marvel-produced movies. Then during the movie, I realized...

This movie is about the powerful world police being so irredeemably corrupt that it has to be burned to the ground.

This does not seem coincidental. Just saying.

The only Marvel movies I've really hated are Iron Man 2, Thor, and The Avengers! Thor 2 and Iron Man 3 were a blast

Went and saw Muppets: Most Wanted. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. If we're comparing them to the original films, it was comparable to The Great Muppet Caper in quality.
