I'm with you on that one, @Cheesy1 .

I'm really excited about directing, but it's been really stressful. Which has taken it's toll on my health. Not only that, but it's served to drive home how lonely I am. There are a lot of attractive young women around, but I don't think any of them are a potential match. They're either taken, "not going to touch that with a 10' pole", or too young. It's really frustrating to not know what to do to find someone, so I can stop feeling so gut-wrenchingly lonely.

Huh, and here I was coming in myself to whine about how pretty much every woman I meet in my age range that I get remotely interested in turns out to not be single. Lot of that going around it seems.

My wife left for New Jersey tonight and I was too sick to go to the train station and see her off. She'll be gone for a week, visiting with an old school friend and then traveling to go to PAX East. I'm excited for her and hope she has a great time, but it's only been three hours since she's left and I'm already lonely as all hell.

It's amazing how attached we have become all these years. Eight days feels like an eternity.

There's been a really bad head cold/flu-type thing going around at work recently. It's been making the rounds for well over a month now, and I thought I had managed to avoid it.
Ya. No.
I hate being sick. And head colds suck the most, cuz they really screw up my ability to write, which is kind of a major part of my job. Bugger.

I've also had something for almost the past week. I'm used to kicking colds in 2-3 days max, but this one's been dragging me down for almost a week now. It's so bad that I've actually broken down and taken drugs for it, which I almost never have to do.

I hear ya Pat. This cold I have has been lingering for 6 days now, longer than I'm used to. I'm starting to wish I lived in Japan, where sick people wear masks to keep others from getting sick as well.

I thought it was well people who wore masks to keep from getting sick.

I just know what I've been told. It seems it's

3. they are around people who are sick
That was the one that I had heard. I remember seeing pictures of people in Asian countries and Canada wearing them in public so they wouldn't risk catching SARS. I know he mask is actually supposed to be used when you're sick to keep it from spreading (the pediatrician and ER have masks at the door for people who think they have the flu).

Know what's awesome? The telco in my area got $7b from the government to build out a new fiber network to offer us high speed internet. Should get nice internet connection speed out of that right? Nope. They are giving us a max of 5mb down and 512k up. Gotta love when the government gives a forced monopoly money to upgrade their service. At least I'm getting service though.

The amount of "service" available from the latest incarnation of Google Maps is so bad that I was forced to use MapQuest today to find a list of Sherwin Williams locations near my company. MapQuest. I haven't used MapQuest since probably... 2005?

What did someone here say about Kickstarter recently? "Never spend your own money if you don't have to."
I'm sure they'll give you more...if you want to pay extra for it.

Yes, maybe the brain will let go when it swells up against the inside of the skull from high altitude cerebral edema.

I gots girl problems, son.

Seeing a girl for a few months and everything seems to be going fantastic and amazing, but about a month ago she got more distant, cancelled 2 dates on me a week ago, and talking/chatting went from a lot every day to almost entirely none. Not sure what's up. Tried talking with her about it, but came away not really certain about where things stand at all.

I get conflicting messages, because when she does message me, she'll apologize and say she's glad to have me, brought me a present from the thing she went to instead of our date, or send me a goodnight with a heart, or tell me during our talk that the idea of not having me is terrible.

So I would say she's trying to phase me out, but there's really no telling.

Not necessarily looking for advice here, just whining. :)

Yup, the new interface really seems a step back. What is it with companies changing their PC versions to look like tablet/phone versions? My screen's roughly 8x the surface, please don't auto-hide everything so I have to hunt around for buttons, and please don't take away options that were there.

Go mobile! Everyone is doing it! Soon game consoles and desktops will all be a thing of the past, so you'd better get used to it!*

*not really.
Exactly this. I wish Google would be smart and put in the extra work to have the mapping API determine what interface you were using, and serve you a platform specific version - but no. If I couldn't run it on a smartphone, why would I want that much functionality on a CADD capable desktop?

Other whine: I restarted my aforementioned CADD capable work desktop to pick up the final bit of updates to XP, and now it's running slower than molasses in Alaska in January.

You're being phased out, but if you are anxious or bothered by the inconstance, you might as well just end it yourself to have some consistency.

She messaged me saying she missed our chatting and hanging out (prompting a "dafuq" from me) and invited me to lunch tomorrow, so I'll take that opportunity to get a better idea of what's going on and get everything spelled out. I'm fine if she's wanting to end things, but it doesn't seem that way, so it's hella confusing.

Updates forthcoming, I reckon.

I'm off my game today. I actually don't feel like crushing the spirits of my special little snowflake students. <sigh>
