Things you hate that everyone else seems to like?

Read his work, and his comments on anyone in the industry. Considering how much of his work is based on or about other peoples creations (~98%) he really has no leg to stand on when he accuses the entire industry of just ripping off his work and characters. Especially when he claims to have not read anything in the last 20 years (on accounts of everyone being hacks who are just copying him I suppose).

As for the sexist thing, I just gather it from the way he writes his women in the stuff of his I've read. It's not quite Frank Miller bad, but man it's close.
About the only legitimate beefs that he has anymore are with Dave Gibbons, who made a ton of money off of the Watchmen movie (and even got to be in it), without mentioning Alan Moore and basically cutting ties with him, and DC comics in general, which has CONTINUALLY fucked Moore over. There was a point they were buying out any company he was working for just to keep him making DC stuff.

Aside from those two though, I think Alan Moore needs to shut the fuck up. He keeps harping on how everyone in the industry needs to grow some balls and make original work, without recognizing that the only reason Alan Moore gets to make original work is because he hit it big with something that originally starred someone else's characters (which were taken from him when it was apparent what he was writing). If Watchmen had kept the Charlton Comics characters instead of the new ones, he wouldn't be nearly as well known or as successful.

Or to put it simply, not everyone is as lucky as Alan Moore. He's an amazing talent but he got lucky with Watchmen.

Watchmen it's self is just a better, more refined take on the "super hero in the real wold" story he first did in Miracleman. Someone else's character, and a blatant Captain Marvel copy.

I also have real issues with Alan Moore's attitude. He's not the end all be all of the industry that he thinks he is. Gaiman, Ennis, Ellis, Miller, etc etc... so many other, profoundly good writers out there that aren't known primarily for being bitter about the industry and self-aggrandizing. He's no Art Spieglman, he can get over himself. His whole 'disavowing himself of every movie based on his comics' ticks me off as well. It shows a real...I dunno, arrogance...to never want to see someone else adapt your work. And a lot of those movies are quite good.

And, bringing us back to the original topic (while still talking about Alan Moore), I actually thought the ending for the Watchmen movie was far superior to the ending in the book. The book ending was....I dunno, sort of lazy...kind of arbitrary? I dunno. The movie took the obvious callback that made the whole thing fit together so much better. Not that the movie was great, it had some serious issues, but the ending was far superior.

Also....fwiw....Powers is probably 10x better than Top 10.

Kevin Smith agrees with you. He talked about how he liked that it brought the characters back into the ending and made it feel less like a deus ex machina "HEY LOOK ALIEN SQUIDSPLOSIONS!"

I have to agree with that. I thought the ending in the book would have seemed a little silly translated to the screen, even if they had left in the build-up with the island and the scientists. The point was still the same, "we have to create a common enemy to unite the world", but I'm kinda glad they switched what it was. I think "deus ex squid-alien" would have been too out of left field, both visually and plot-wise.

And no, I'm not going to spoil-tag that. The book had been out for almost 30 years. If you still haven't read it, tough noogies! :p[DOUBLEPOST=1395762132,1395762088][/DOUBLEPOST]

Agh! Ninja'd by Gas!

I think the movie ending is far inferior when its supposed to bring about world unity by having known US operative Dr. Manhattan massacre major cities around the world.

I wish Alan Moore was a shitty writer, it would make my dislike of him so much easier.

Back on OP; the majority of Matt Fraction's work.

Yeah I haven't read the comic, but after seeing the movie I looked up all the differences and I thought the comic's ending was pretty stupid.

Top 10 and Smax are great if you are a fan of the silver age or City of Heros/Champions Online.

it works better, and I think it's supposed to be jarring. It's a crazy moment that knocks everything back onto a good path, It's bizarre because sometimes that what you need to break things out of the existing norm.

Actually the squid ending was heavily eluded to through out the 12 issues of Watchmen. With out the squid ending the genetically modified cat makes no sense besides "well, he's in the book."

This. They built it up pretty well in the book. The real problem is that a giant alien squid from nowhere is really, really silly. It works in the comics where you have time to digest that it's just a fake body made to fool people, but that wouldn't have worked in the pacing of the movie.

I read the comic but haven't seen the movie. What was the ending in the movie?

Yes, I know I could go look it up. Humour me.

Avatar's one of those visually spectacular movies, but with nothing new when it comes to plot or characters or themes etc.

I still quite like it though. The visuals alone make it worth watching.

And blue boobies.

I think that movie made me a furry.

The Peanuts Cartoons. Never enjoyed them, just always found them to be incredibly dull. It's not the Peanuts either, I've always enjoyed the strip.

Got a chance to try Freebirds, and in general I agree with blotsfan; it wasn't bad, but nothing noteworthy about the taste. Not worth the effort of going out of my way to eat there. For now, gonna mark this one as a casualty of the forum hype.

On the flipside, tried a place called Cafe Rio, which is fast casual Mexican. The sweet pork barbacoa was pretty good.

It's like a 3D movies tech demo.

The movie "Up"
I think the first ten minutes are downright beautiful, and after that the movie falls completely apart. If I had to rank every Pixar movie I've seen, Up would be just barely above Cars 2. It's crap.

The Fault in our Stars. The writing ranks just above Stephanie Meyer and just below Dan Brown. And I even read it twice to be sure.

Below Dan Brown? Yikes. That's low praise indeed.
Um, yes. I mean this is like how the book is written? The character's, like, supposed to be some brilliant wiseass or whatever but her inner monologue is totally a Valley Girl? WHAT IS THIS LIFE????

It's Nicholas Sparks, right? It's two young privileged white people in love and terminal disease is involved, it's gotta be Nicholas Sparks. Especially if there's also an estranged parent somewhere in it.
