This tweaked a personal soapbox of mine:
I don't mind The Fault in our Stars but I don't understand why everyone is losing their mind over it? I mean..c'mon, if you didn't see the ending coming, I would be shocked.
Haven't read the book, so won't comment on that, but wanted to point out this line here: why are people so disappointed if you can see the ending coming? When I read a mystery novel, do you expect to NOT know who did it at the end? Obviously there's degrees here, in that "Oh I didn't know it was the maid, I thought for sure it was the butler!" or whatever, but in any media, you have certain expectations, and yet too often people are disappointed when those expectations are met. I like the good twist as much as anybody else, but walking into Avatar, did you expect to see the marines win in the end? Really? Or are you disappointed that you could "see it coming" that the Joker loses in a Batman movie?
I'm OK with somebody saying "there are no surprises in this movie, it's entirely predictable" and that's a fair critique (a lot/most of network television goes this way IMO these days). But how often do you go into a movie and NOT know the general idea of how it's ending? That's not a fair critique in itself IMO.
