[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

The first half of season one definitely has that 'CW' feel to it. A lot of it is cringe inducing, but they took feedback from that and the good ride that the show's become starts in the 2nd half.

Just power through.
^ This. I couldn't even say how much or if of season 1 gets reworked, because they do a very good job of paying things off.

Orange is the New Black (Season 2)

Three episodes so far and DAMN it's great. The premiere was a real knuckle chewer.

Just finished the episode that gave us some more insight into

Crazy Eyes/Suzanne. She's always been my favourite character and this episode just further cemented that. Suddenly, I feel bad about smiling or laughing at her antics during the Christmas pageant.

I must also say that I do not trust Vee AT ALL. She's too nice, too friendly, too perfect. I though for sure she'd be another good one to join, but it's clear Red doesn't trust her. Really can't wait to see this come to a head.

I'm only an episode ahead of you, Nick, so there should be no spoilers for you here. But for the rest...

Nice? There's nothing nice about Vee, she's 100% manipulation, pure and simple. And I like that Piper is Red's new bunkmate. Red may be down, but she's not out, she's definitely someone you want as an ally and not an enemy. I think one of the girls in the lunch line said it best. "She's a big russian bear, and she's hibernating. And when she gets back to full strength she'll maul us all."

Oh yeah, I'm learning that VERY quickly about Vee. She's an old girl who knows a lot of old tricks. And she's clearly playing chess with the whole prison, setting up the pieces in order to make her play. I both love and hate her for that because she's an absolutely fascinating character. I love watching her work any time she's on screen.

Also - and this isn't really any kind of spoiler - but is it just me or is Piper taking more of a backseat this season? Not that I mind. She's the least likeable character on the show, but I also actually like her darker turn since the end of last season.

I'm not enough episodes in to really tell if she is. I mean, the first episode was all about her, but they've got a lot of fan favorite characters they want to give backstory on. I assume piper's stuff will happen mostly in the second half.

And I'm totally fine with Piper taking a backseat as well.

The Awesomes

Entertaining. Some funny. Worth watching. Reminds me very strongly of Ugly Americans except they replaced movie monsters with superheroes. Got better by the episode. The premise is interesting and Seth Myers has his moments so there you go.

It's bizarre. Knope is the kind of neurotic, officious busybody I can't stand in real life, but I am addicted to watching he flailing shenanigans unfold.

Okay I'm going to be fade again. My wife loves orange is the new black. I've tried to watch it with her and I just find it boring and whiny. I admit I could probably give it a better try but it sure hasn't caught me.

Makes sense.

My aunt who was a cop wouldn't watch Law & Order.
Another aunt who is a nurse wouldn't watch Scrubs.
And I can't watch court shows anymore.
My father and stepmom are doctors and have had the same problem with every single doctor show except M*A*S*H. Even going back to ER. Couldn't watch it, or scrubs, or House, or anything.

Ironically my mom was a lawyer and yet loved watching LA Law.

And for all that, being in the IT sector doesn't seem to sour many people on The IT Crowd. Although, I guess you could say Big Bang Theory is more controversial among nerds... they either love it or hate it it seems.

I loathe police procedurals.

LOVE police dramas.
I imagine they're not very accurate, though?

Come to think of it, I'm surprised Canadian television has never done a show about the RCMP. Yeah, we had that American show about a Mountie working in Chicago or something, but that's not the same.

Other than the fact that the main character always wore jeans in uniform, it was actually kind of realistic.

Also, Due South was awesome!

My husband tells me everything wrong in Navy-centric shows or movies.
I don't bother watching casino related shows. It's annoying to see the mistakes/things conveniently left out and people who believe it's true to life.

My poor husband had to see Mission to Mars with a group of Biotech majors. We took up a whole row in the movie theater and he could hear all of our groans.

You mean we can't live on mars in a tent full of ferns? My dreams are dashed!

Watching Superman the animated series. 2 episodes in, and I just saw young Clark make his first rescue. I teared up it was so well done. That's a reaction Man of Steel failed to elicit. Victory for the "kids' show" over the blockbuster movie.

I'm starting to realize that the current crop of DC movies, especially the Nolan Batman films, are good action movies, but they're not at all about the characters from the comics. Same names, same powers, different people.

FACT: The Dini-verse is leagues better than any live action DC movie.

(And most comics.)

Also

Superman rescuing people > Superman killing people[DOUBLEPOST=1403238213,1403238120][/DOUBLEPOST]Before the animated series, my knowledge of Superman was the George Reeves version that would sometimes run on late night, and that Superman had died in the comics. So the Timm/Dini animated series blew my mind.

I've still got a packaged version of every fake Superman first issue, the ones with the big S symbol under the main covers that represented each different "Superman." What a weird time in comics.
