That depends if the writers feel the same. I know Martin is there, but I don't know how much he wants slipping out about what's actually going to happen in the unreleased books. If he leads the show along too much to follow their tune, it may cut down on book sales. He may want to let the show go off on its own, as the showrunners seem to be taking it to an extent already.
I didn't get that from watching the episode, not having read the books. Is he joining Tyrion in bailing on King's Landing? I thought it was more a general, aw shit moment.
It's both. "What have you done?!" he asks to Tyrion. And upon realizing, decides it's time to gtfo.

Varys is a smart mofo. They only ring that bell when someone super important has been murdered and the city is to be locked down. Tyrion was suspiciously late leaving Jaime and getting to Varys, so it doesn't take much to realize that on his way out the door he killed either Tywin or Cersei or both. And in such a circumstance, he knows Jaime would not keep quiet about who else helped Tyrion escape. So. It's time to not be in King's Landing any more. And remember who Varys has been seen colluding with in the past who is across the narrow sea.
Problem is, he only went for the crossbow after he saw Shae... and he had no way of knowing she was there.
And just going to see his father makes no sense if he actually wanted to escape, unless he already was planing to kill him.
And then they totally ignored the reason why Bronn said that... imo that was a waste.
I'm not really saying it didn't, just that it made more sense, and Tyrion came off way more justified in the book.
Well, like i said, it's more about no longer having any hope of hearing Dinklage say "Where do whores go?"...
Well ask them this, if Shae wasn't there, do they think Tyrion would have killed Tywin? And if not, what would he do after leaving, since there's no way Tywin would let him leave. Or maybe they're saving money on actors and not having Illirio come back... because Varys actually going with Tyrion is gonna cause some problems... at least if he doesn't come back in time for the next time he shows up in the books.
Then again around this time in the books we get to see that both Varys and Littlefinger are the real chessmasters, while in the show they seem to be more at the whim of happenstance...

The one on the right is 18 as of february. Not that it isn't silly to assert that she was any less schtuppable in January. Not to channel Icarus or anything, but the way we handle legal age is pretty silly. It'd even make more sense if we went with the general rule of creepiness (minimum age for your date = (your age/2)+7).
