[Movies] The Upcoming Movies Trailer Thread

Ok, this actually looks fun. I'll see it.

I like that it can poke fun at itself. "So, they're aliens?" "No, that's stupid. They're turtles."

I agree with the CGI though. It looks very impressive and detailed, and I even kinda dig the new bulky look. But I miss the days of suits and animatronic heads. Those looked great, and never once took me out of the movie.
As a kid I never thought twice about the animatronics, but now almost every time one of the Turtles open their mouth I can see the puppeteer. The best instance of this is the scene where April and Donatello walk in on Raph and Leo hugging after Raph wakes up. Donny laughs and you can see the puppeteer's mouth and nose inside the head. It's creepy.

Some of that might also be because of cleaned-up prints and digital video. What was dark is now clear.

Some, I'm sure, though it's the original DVD release so I don't know how much restoration would have gone into it.

I'll have to dig up the VHS tapes I have sometime and see if it's like that there, too. I'm sort of curious now.

Yeah, that trailer turned it around for me. Mostly because now we know Fichtner isn't Shredder. Hopefully. Though it is funny that they used the Skrillex Reptile theme music from the MK9 album.

I've been doing some research on that, Frank, and there may indeed be the possibility that the guy Fichtner is talking to is Oroku Saki. While that does ease a little of my concerns, I have to wonder the need of Eric Sachs.

From a previous trailer, we know that he had worked with April O'Neil's father in some major project (most likely involving the mutagen). If you want a scientist type to serve with the Shredder, why make a new guy with an Anglicized version of Shredder's name? Why not just use Baxter Stockman?

Maybe a reverse Mandarin, only the trailer people blew the surprise?

So, everyone knows this isn't being directed/written by Bay, right? It's his production company, that's it. His name isn't even on the writer/director credits.

The director in charge, though, doesn't exactly have a glowing track record, either:

Wrath of the Titans, Battle Los Angeles, Darkness Falls

Besides, I can't think of a single movie that Bay's production studio was behind that turned out decent. Most of them were terrible horror remakes.

Also, even if Bay isn't directing, you can see his hand in it all over the place.

I mean I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, these sort of reboots tend to split the crowd one way or the other pretty hard and fast with not much flip-flopping.

I'm just not ready to completely say no to the movie, as this trailer at least has some promise to it. The focus actually seems to be on the Turtles, which is already a HUGE step over the last childhood cartoon reboot with Transformers.

It just doesn't look like a movie I'll feel I got my money's worth for at the theater. I haven't care about TMNT in 20 years and I don't think this movie's going to change my mind. It's not something I'm particularly nostalgic about, even if I was nuts for it when I was a little kid. I have happy memories about the toys and how my parents really went out of their way to do TMNT-related stuff for me, but the turtle franchise and characters just isn't near and dear to my heart. The enthusiasm I get over Godzilla-related stuff? There's none of that for me with this. This might as well be something entirely new; that's my interest level.

But again, that the trailer made me laugh bumps it up to at least a rental. I'd like to know where everyone else is coming from on this--nostalgia or just wanting to see a good movie or current fans or what?

Yeah… other than Megan Fox that actually looks really good. Way better than I expected it to be. I think people hold on way to tight to nostalgic things sometimes. Let it go a little and be less annoyed by it. Reboots are inevitable and occasionally you might enjoy a new take on something.

As parents of a tank driver, I'm not sure the wife will want to see this one.
I thought by that stage of the war, the German military was largely a spent force. Why would a single Allied tank have to end up holding off an attack by large numbers of Germans?

I'm watching that.[DOUBLEPOST=1403755974,1403755944][/DOUBLEPOST]

Hollywood.

YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES! And if THAT goes well, you know what that means? GODZILLA CROSSOVER!
People keep saying this isn't possible because of strengths and how Godzilla would destroy the Jaegers, etc.

1. It's entirely possible legally as both films are produced by the same company.

2. They seem to be forgetting that Godzilla was the good guy in the recent movie. The Jaegers and Godzilla would be on the same side, like Gamera and the SDF in Gamera 2: Attack of Legion, where he could fight the big Legion and not the small ones, while the SDF could fight the smaller Legion and not the big.

Of course, Godzilla would have to take place within Pacific Rim's opening montage, or be some parallel universe, but since Pacific Rim's portal was already to another universe, that doorway is open if they wanted to get very silly.

Seriously? They can't imagine that in the future of Pacific Rim they'd make like, a super version of the Jaegers as a contingency in case it happens again? Or maybe a giant robot whom they call "Jet"to tie the whole thing together?!

Get silly, get silly, get really really really silly- OOH- get twisty, get twisty, get really really twisty!

Seriously, I am hoping this brings upon the new age of kaiju films.

A cross-over would explain a few things about the Godzilla universe.

For example:

One problem I see with a potential Pacific Rim/Godzilla crossover: San Fransisco was trashed by Tresspasser in the opening sequence of Pacific Rim, then gets trashed again in Godzilla (correct me if I'm wrong, since I haven't seen Godzilla yet). This means that unless San Fransisco was rebuilt in record time, the two movies take place on different Earths.

The entire reason for Pacific Rim's existence is Godzilla. I don't see why they SHOULDN'T cross over.
I have a feeling the only reason Pacific Rim is now getting a sequel and animated series is because of Godzilla's success. They're hoping Pacific Rim can be more successful riding Godzilla's coattails, and I don't have a problem with that. Thing is, Pacific Rim would've been enjoyed by just as many people, but they didn't see it probably because they didn't know what it was. Everyone's at least heard of Godzilla, even if they'd never seen one of the Toho films, so having a big dark awesome version coming out was a draw for crowds.

I actually agree with Charlie; there's really no reason to have a crossover. Though it would be cool to have human characters to root for in a Godzilla film, and have them be on the same side as Godzilla, both movies can be good without a merge.

That said, when WB fails their attempt at an Avengers-style crossover with their DC properties, they might try it with Pacific Rim and Godzilla if those two movies' sequels are successful. So needed or not, it could happen anyway. In the interest of profit, they'll respond to the demand.
