Remove marriage from government control. Replace current system of marriage with civil union, identical to the current state with all benefits, tax, inheritance, etc. Allow gay civil union. Marriage is now a personal contract that someone makes with God, their church, their rabbi, their internet ordained friend (hey that's me!) etc.

Now, people can no longer argue over the sanctity of marriage. If they want to combat gay civil union, they have to do so under the banner of "I just don't like gays"

Well, on the one hand, there wasn't a lot of submarine warfare in the middle east, but on the other... if the article is accurate, they haven't a prayer. Our sub fleet was configured with the soviets in mind - until relatively recently, a major naval power. China looks like it hasn't learned the lesson we learned the hard way 60+ years ago at the hands of the Germans.

I wish I could be shocked by that story, but one of my college classes involved India's situation the 70s--nothing has changed. Families in the lowest caste would be subject to mass sterilization, could be murdered en masse with impunity, would have body parts cut off, be taken to essentially slave work camps. No different today.

It's actually a bit better today because the Indian government tries to curtail the worst of the abuses, mostly to prevent humiliation in the eyes of the international community. It's still pretty fucking awful though and one of the leading causes for Indians to attempt immigration into America.

I'm amazed that the only cases I see from Inida are from oppressed Sikhs. I've never seen a caste-based immigration case. I'll have to ask some co-workers if they have.

As for this, China would be making a huge mistake giving the U.S. government an entrenched opponent. After 13 years of dealing with guerilla tactics and chasing an invisible foe, giving the U.S. a super-power to battle, defeat, and in post-war treaty wipe away U.S. debt? The government would love it, and they could say it's in the name of peace without lying, too. It'd be a gift to U.S. politicians and a good way to ruin everything China has worked and bled out of its people for the last several decades.

I hope China's not that stupid.

... although, anything seems like a reason to burn down movie theaters in India, from bad movie to religious issues to an actor's death.

I've read some pretty mortifying things about the commonality of child molestation in India. As in, 53%. Also bear in mind that India has 20% of the world's child populace, so basically 1 of every 10 children in the world is an Indian who has been sexually abused.

Considering the prevalence of the casual "disposal" of (mostly female) babies in India, it's almost enough to overshadow the abuse.

Woman fined 1500 Euros over critical review that was "too prominent" on Google.

Honestly the fact that someone could decide to sue over a bad review doesn't surprise me, but that a Court could actually agree with them? Particularly when they don't deny that they deserved that bad review? If you provide a bad service then sometimes people complain about it & sometimes that has a negative affect on your business. Tough shit. Deal with it.

And if you're a Judge and this comes before you? Unless the review is provably false you throw this case out. You do not side with the business owner who is going "oh, boo hoo, this nasty person's perfectly legitimate complaint about me is harming my business". FFS :censored:
