[Movies] Guardians of the Galaxy

I had to Wiki Jackson Pollock after the movie. I knew he was a mid-20th century artist but wasn't familiar with his work. Then I was like "ewww."

Well I am seeing the film tomorrow. We talked. I think shes calmed down enough that I don't feel that I'm going to come back to a fight.

In my theater in Taiwan, I was literally the only person to laugh at that joke. Including my wife, younger sister, and her husband, who I saw the film with.

Later on they asked me to explain it, and I really didn't want to.

I think I was the only guy in the theater (and it wasn't sparse in there) to belt out a "HA!" at that line.

i went with a group of 7 (art-pun!) who I went to art school with. like i said before, a friend of ours from school was also infront of us unexpectedly with his girlfriend ( who also went to our art school). So the reaction to that joke seemed big to me. it honestly hadn't occurred to me that people might not know who Jackson Pollock was.

The soundtrack has reached the #1 spot on Billboard's Top 200 chart. It is first soundtrack composed entirely of previously released songs to do so.

James Gunn has expressed concern that, even now, there are executives in a boardroom somewhere talking about how to give a poor movie "the Guardians of the Galaxy" treatment to improve the potential box office.

If it means we no longer have every goddamn trailer with the Inception BWHAAAANG, and instead they start playing some MoTown or 70's rock, I'm really okay with that.

Personally I'd love to see a trailer for a Deadpool movie set to "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys.

He's right to be concerned. It's going to happen from a desperate party.

DC/WB I'm calling it now

I can see it now. End of Batman vs. Superman. Batman's bruised, battered, almost down for the count. Nothing he has can even scratch the Man of Steel.

Suddenly Batman gets an idea. He struggles to his feet, and starts wriggling his pelvis. "Dance off, Supes! Let's see your Kryptonian ass match these moves!"

Some people were mentioning that they didn't think they were missing anything from the IMAX/3D experience. I have to say though that I enjoyed the 30 minutes I had already seen a lot better during the IMAX/3D viewing.

I don't know what it is, but general movie projectors seem to be just too dark for my preferences. I don't know if this is something that changes between screens, but it seems to be a pretty common problem no matter which theater I end up in. Scenes that take place in the daylight or inside lit spaces are fine, but darker scenes seem to be just TOO dark when I'm watching the film. I noticed this when Starlord is wandering around the alien ruins at the beginning of the film. I could barely make out the creatures he was kicking around the first time, and in the IMAX/3D version I could practically count the teeth on them. I also felt the 3D was very subversive, which was great for that type of movie with it's beautiful scenery (Knowhere from space was gorgeous). And I don't know if it was just me, but I felt like they cranked up the A/C and humidity in the theater during the opening sequence on the ruined planet with the water geysers.

That's because they leave the 3D projection on during the 2D screening at your theater, which darkens it. You have lazy people up in the booth at your theater.

Or, as happens all the time in my theater the dumbass people running the projector forget to turn of the light in the booth, washing out the entire movie.

I still think it's a shame the soundtrack release of Watchmen didn't contain all those great songs they played in the movie. Plenty of great 50s-80s music in the movie, hardly any of it on the ST.

All of our theaters that can play 3D also have the ability to play 2D very easily, and since the switch to Real D, it's always been this way. At the moment we have two different ways of doing so, a large box type unit and a smaller Z Screen. Both are on fitted bars that allow them to be slid in front of the projectors when needed for 3D, or not for 2D. While I guess it would be possible to limit a show to only playing 3D, it seems oddly restrictive given how easy it is with the screens to have it be interchangeable.

It is very common for theaters to leave the units in place as most often through out the day the show will alternate between 2D and 3D. Moving the unit was easier when we had the mix of physical film and digital as then we would still have a projectionist in the booth, where now there is no one. Unfortunately as @Zero Esc mentioned they do get left in front for shows that don't need them and can wash out their colour, but if you catch your theater doing it your best bet to getting it fixed, if brought to their attention and nothing is done, is to contact the studios whose film is being butchered. When we get in a drive they contain framing charts and reference images for a reason and the studios want the best possible conditions for you to see their product. If a theater is not doing their part to ensure the presentation is as good as it can be, either because of incorrect framing, real d screens being left, or whatever other reason, they should be held accountable, and if studios think they lost money because of it, you can bet they will be.

It is also possible that the bulb was near the end of it's life, or even faulty. There is also a reflector in the projector itself surrounding the bulb and in at least one case with our theater where we thought it was someone leaving the Z screen "on", the reflector had cracked because the exhaust fan had not been turned on when our church rental used the theater that morning.

For some reason, I'd picture a Deadpool trailer using something more along the lines of MmmmBop. :)

Spoilered in case anybody STILL hasn't seen the end of the movie.
Marvel really dropped the ball for not making a "dancing baby groot" toy. So this other guy stepped up and made his own from some felt, wire, and a decapitated Dancing Daisy.

Oh make no mistake, come Christmas time your not going to be able to walk into a store without seeing a rack of these things. It's all Disney timing.
