Can I get my son added? His name is Sh0rtsB00ter. That's zeros instead of o's. Pretty please?[DOUBLEPOST=1410565003,1410564931][/DOUBLEPOST]Forgot to tag @Shakey

I have a path, but I'm a tool. I died in the nether with 2 gold horse armor and a saddle. :-( Not to mention all my diamond items and my enchanted bow...

I have 2 gold horse armor you can have, and I can probably make up a good deal of those diamonds. The bow, though, is on you.

That's because the new UUID system is supposed to allow us to change our names.
It also means you can't log in as the same character (with the same inventory/nether chest) if you switch from remote to local game, too. I found that frustrating.

It's supposed to grab the names from Mojang when you build it though.

It is, but if you have no network connection (which is when I discovered this), it won't, and you end up with a new "empty" character.
You can fix this by renaming the files back and forth, but it's quite a hassle.

Sale confirmed by Mojang themselves for $2.5B. Yes Billion. With a "B".

https://mojang.com/2014/09/yes-were-being-bought-by-microsoft/

The 3 founders, Notch, Carl, and Jakob are leaving.

Supposedly, support for all existing platforms will continue.

Notch owned more than 50% of Mojang. I can't blame him really. If somebody offered to make you a Billionaire with few (no?) strings attached, how many would say no? And he said it was a lot of pressure to be "the guy" responsible for Minecraft and it was impacting his work/creativity.

We'll see what happens!

Yeah, I guess we'll see. With that much money at stake, Microsoft is going to have to make it a worthwhile investment.

This is either going to be really good for the game, in gaining all the resources ms has available, or really bad, and the freedom and flexibility that made the game so popular will be lost.

Here's a handy link to grab old versions, if you're wanting to collect them.
You can get them yourself if you rename the download URL, but this site has done that work for you.

https://mcversions.net/

...also there is apparently a link at the bottom for finding out which UUID goes with which name, I haven't tried this yet.

"I made something that became very popular and I can't stand it." Boo fucking hoo.
My thoughts exactly. And it's not like his later crappy work is NOT going to be overshadowed by minecraft just because he doesn't work for mojang any more.

But, Gas, if he works on anything and it starts getting popular he's going to abandon it!

He'll wipe away all his tears with $100 bills from the millions of dollars he's made and the billions from the sale of the company he holds majority stake in. He has the best of both worlds right now. He is the owner and he just wants to be a programmer. So just be a programmer! You've hired guys to run the company, let them run it while you code monkey in the corner. No use running off crying about how you didn't want this to get popular and sell out your fan base. You don't like what's happening so you sold everyone out. Good job.

Of course, if money wasn't the issue, why did he sell for $2.5 BILLION. I mean really. I guess it's to be expected, and I'm sure it was more of a "Make me an offer" than him demanding that much, but dang.

In a way I get where he's coming from. He stepped away from Mojang a long time ago really, and was doing his code monkey in a corner thing, but even though he had nothing to do with Minecraft anymore, he was still the one getting the blame for anything people did or did not like. But he always had the option of ignoring people, he didn't have to sell everything to do it.

If money wasn't the issue he'd have sold his shares to those currently running Mojang and gone on his merry way. But we're all fucking stupid.

Funny little story. My brother and his friends many years ago use to create models for a little start-up MMO called Wurm Online. The game let you create tools and structures using almost anything in the game and using things like workbenches and whatnot to combine different elements to create new things. Well eventually one of the co-developers decided that he was getting bored with the game and left to go do his own thing. Fast forward a few years later, and now that guy has an alpha for a new game using a lot of the same concepts as Wurm, but with much more simplified graphics. He's calling it "Minecraft."

Every time anyone mentions Minecraft around my brother and his friends, they just shake their heads.

I am overcome with the need to build a glass booth that is surrounded by bunnies. These things are relentless when Carrots are involved.[DOUBLEPOST=1410802298,1410801950][/DOUBLEPOST]There is a pretty good chance that I am way too easily amused.
