Found a new village at 1157,-401. At least I think it's new. There's no fence or anything around it and there's a chest there that is still got stuff in it. I haven't gotten to the villagers yet as it was just turning to night when I found it, but I'll see what they can trade in the morning after I let them out of their blocked-in prisons.

I found it because I was cow-searching and found the most incredibly beautiful thing I've seen in Minecraft. A huge field of flowers of all types and colors. I got screen prnts, but I have to locate the files.

The fortune one is the one I hunt diamonds with. It gets used for nothing else but diamond hunting. And now that it costs less to repair, it'll never have to break.

The Wiki entry on enchanting is about as clear as the water at a Galveston beach. Can anyone sum up the changes to Enchanting and/or Repairing in 1.8?

read this.

basically if you have 2 items without enchantments you can put them in the crafting grid and combine them.
if you have enchantments use an anvil and xp

How many you need? After making a full suit of diamond armor I only have 9 left. I'm more than willing to share some.

He was nice. He did share some. Tyvm Dave.

My mining has been "not lucrative" for diamonds this time around. I've naturally mined 5. Yes FIVE this entire game. And that's with spending "Significant" time mining at 10-14 levels (and below).

Grr.

What does every one think about building our nether network? Personally I'm leaning towards building it up near the ceiling.
I know we could go through it, but it's considered a bug and may get fixed. Preventing us from adding on to it.
I'm thinking tomorrow night I'd like to do some work on it either way.

I like how on many routes you can SEE out of it. Provides interesting entertainment when running from place to place. Something in the ceiling wouldn't have that IMO.

That would be the exact wiki entry that I think is clear as mud, plus it doesn't cover enchanting at all.

Finally found this article that at least explains the basics better.

My understanding, and I haven't tested yet: Enchanting now uses levels differently. To enchant something at level 30 doesn't use all 30 levels anymore. You have to be at level 30, and it will take 3 of those levels and 3 lapis lazuli to perform the enchantment. You'll now get told what the first enchantment will be, but the other enchantments will still be a mystery.

As for anvil work, renaming is a lot cheaper, and repairs in general are cheaper.

I'm actually excited to do some mining and get working on making myself some nifty gear.

I'll try to explain how I see enchanting working these days:
Say your exp level is 30. That means you can get up to level 30 enchantments. The amount of exp to get to level 30 has been raised, though.
When you throw something into the enchantment table, you are given three choices based on your current exp level. The cheap one, the middling one, and the premium one. These choices cost 1, 2, or 3 lapis (and 1, 2, or 3 levels of exp) respectively. You have some idea what you're going to get (in italics) if you hover over it, but the rest is still random. You need to BE the level on the far right in order to get that enchantment, but you only need to SPEND the number of experience levels shown on the far left. This means that bookmaking just got awesomer.

Hell yeah!!
*Brofist!*

I got the same. Efficiency 4, Unbreaking 3, Fortune 3.

I got a second pick axe with Unbreaking 3 and Fortune 3.

I'm probably going to start making armor with whatever diamond I find next, but I really want a sword with Looting. My sword just has Fire Aspect and Smite. Not terrible, but definitely not what I want in a sword.

I've run into a bit of an odd situation with the render distance in MC with 1.8. It occurs when I'm in either single or smp and try to increase the distance past 12. The picture goes crazy with the same chunk rendering across the screen or giants of mobs appearing that do not interact. The worst was the thousand withers that showed up. I've set aside eight gigs of ram for JAVA and MC separately and have the latest video card and java drivers installed. If anyone has seen or might have an idea it will be greatly appreciative. Thanks beforehand.

so much silk touch. no fortune

I have 2 Efficiency IV, Unbreaking III, Silk Touch I, Diamond Pick axes. and 1 Efficiency IV, Silk Touch I.

If anyone wants to trade for a Efficiency IV, Unbreaking III, Fortune III, I would appreciate it.

I have not seen this at all. I have a sort of "shimmer" if I have the distance set too far, but nothing like you describe. Might be time to redownload!

So my village has 6 emeralds and a book for infinity I, and 8 emeralds for an eye of ender. Also there's a Sharpness II diamond sword for 12 emeralds.

It could still be a driver issue. The latest driver for my laptop caused all sort of weird graphics problems in Minecraft. It wasn't until the other day that they finally fixed it with a new version. I had to use an older version until it was fixed.

Damn. I can make one Eye, but I need Blaze Rods. Guess now that I have diamond armor I should head there and start hunting. I did kill a wither yesterday, but it dropped nothing.

I'm pretty sure there's a blaze spawner on top of my portal. Gotta try to trap it.

I walled off a blaze spawner at some point, I forget where now, because that is how I roll.

You killed a wither???

You mean a wither skeleton, right?

I built a half-ass path from my portal to the tunnel that is being built, so if someone is filling it in, feel free to make it better. :p I'll probably get around to it as I get more mats, but now there's a path to work off.

If anyone has any extra cobble or smooth stone, feel free to drop it off either at the spawn, or the spawn portal in the nether. We'll need a lot to build a good network again.

Feel free to drop by any time and take as much as you want.

Bring a lot of picks.
