That PA stuff reminds me a lot of the dude who put together Boondock Saints. Sure, he got screwed. But he seems like an unprofessional jerk that might have deserved it. Honestly that Mike Maulbeck guy is going to have a hell of a time ever working again. To do that on release date? He's lucky his partner didn't drown him in a lake.

I was really hoping I could get my son a New 3DS for Christmas because his is on its last legs, but NOPE!

EA just released a second free update to Sims 4, putting swimming pools back in. Isn't this one of the signs of the apocalypse?

I was hoping, too. My touch screen is a wreck.

More like "people complained about the thing we were going to charge for." They do this with some games, removing features to see what they can get away with as paid content and what they'll have to add back for free due to outcry. See: Mass Effect 3 extended ending. That thing was going to exist anyway; we were just going to have to pay for it (and at this point, people who don't already have it would have to pay for it).

The rest of that Nintendo direct couldn't compare to that news, but there were good things. Thehe first Mario Kart 8 DLC will be out on November 13th, as opposed to 30th as was rumored.

Also, eventually there will be 3rd party 3DS themes such as for Shovel Knight (yay!) and Sonic Boom (*crickets*), which opens the gates for anybody, in my opinion. So hey Capcom, how about Mega Man? I'd love Mega Man 2 music to play whenever I open my 3DS.

Rev3Games is shutting down. I was sad when Adam Sessler left it long ago, but Nick and Tara were entertaining replacements, and I actually enjoyed watching them. But now with both of them announcing their departure, it looks like Rev3 is getting the ax.

This was basically my thought. People came for Adam, but he's apparently stopped caring about games because he can't deal with the community. Now he's shilling himself to Bethesda, using his old career as cover as he does "interviews" with Shinji Mikami, while still trying to claim authority in the industry he largely abandoned.

But because he was there, other companies saw the talent and started making offers to people at Rev3. It's probably dead but it's only because people are moving on to bigger and better things.

Or, you know, he's working as a consultant, as he he does now and where anyone with any intelligence goes when their done with the shitty pay of the enthusiast press. Same thing people like N'Gai Croal and Jeff Green do now.

He can call it what he likes. He's still using his old image in a largely manufactured experience, passing it of as the same work he did before. It's not.

For those who never had a PS3, Valkeria Chronicles launched today for PC.

I highly recommend it if you turn based strategy games.
Agreed, it's a fun game, and the story's fairly interesting (though admittedly I've not finished the game yet). Apparently the PC version is pretty customizable in terms of gfx, too, unlike other recent ports, so you can make it look pretty fabulous if you've got the rig for it.

For those on the fence:

The art style of this game is gorgeous and the gameplay is pretty exciting for its genre. Though the characters are simple/not deep, they are endearing, and you can lose soldiers permanently if enemies reach the fallen ones. The plot is stronger than the characters, the pacing engaging, and it ramps up to a pretty intense climax.

I'll bet you it goes on sale during the steam christmas sale.

Oh uh, btw, is it in any was similar to Fire Emblem?

Yes and no. You get to pick and choose which units you want instead of getting them as the story progresses. You DO get to level them up and prestige them like in Fire Emblem though. However, it's not classic fantasy. It's modern fantasy set in WW2.

Vaguely, in that it's turn-based, However you control the selected unit through 3rd-person, and you aim attacks as opposed to relying solely on a hit/miss system like most RPGs. Units level and gain abilities, and you still have to equip them, but there's also a sort of base-management system in researching new tech for equipment, hiring new soldiers, etc.

The soldier death system is more like FFT, in that you only permanently lose a soldier if action is not taken before a certain amount of turns/the end of the battle (you need to have another unit radio a Medic to evacuate KO'd soldiers, if I remember right).

I wish they'd release THAT for PC, too. Never did get to finish it.
I'm pretty sure the Gamecube version (with all the extra content) is on the Wii or Wii U marketplace. Otherwise... yeah, you're out of luck unless you still have a Gamecube.

The only reason they are in the game anyway is because VC was originally going to be Skies of Arcadia 2 before they completely changed the setting.

There's always emulators... just throwing that out there.

Emulation is kind of a crap shoot anyway. Most games work fine, but some games (like Xenogears) have certain effects that can't be replicated outside of their native hardware. Deus can even freeze a PS2 trying to run Xenogears if he does a certain attack.

The last time I ran a dreamcast emulator, it was on a pentium 4 with 500mb of ram.
Emulators are weird beasts. I can run a PSP and PS2 emulator just fine (the PS2 one is great because I can actually use my original disks, so it's not even pirating) and they don't tax my system, but game cube emulators run for crap. so go figure.

I think this is actually a universal list, but Forbes had it on point:

Consumers want:
A) A product that looks like what was advertised
B) Not to be talked down to in PR speak
C) A working product at launch, and

D) To be respected for shelling out $60 for a new game, and not goaded into paying even more
