Random Video Game Crap

I can't name all of the Smash Brothers Characters.

This is like taking all the characters in House of Mouse, watching people struggle to name them, and then saying that Disney is a niche thing.
Almost nobody got Samus right.

Or Wario.

All of them called Rosalina "Elsa."

80% of them called Link "Zelda."

I'd love to see a video with people naming Disney characters. Watch how many have no idea who Clarabelle the Cow is. Have them calling Hades "the devil". And getting Max and Goofy confused. Calling Dodger "the Tramp", and Oliver "Garfield".

Then they pull out The Horned King and people would respond "is that even a Disney character?"

Were you under the impression video games weren't still a niche thing? Ready to tear your hair out as you watch people on the street (most of whom are the target demographic) try to name smash bros characters?

There are few people who wouldn't call me a hardcore gamer and I have no idea who half of those characters are. I couldn't name the Mario Galaxy princess if my life depended on it either. Kirby's villains? No clue. The characters from Fire Breath or whatever? No clue.

Well, Disney is a niche thing. Some of us are normal and prefer Warner Brothers and Looney Tunes. ;)

Everything that is made for a specific group is niche, "a distinct segment of a market."

Ice cream is a niche thing. Some people prefer cake, or non-dairy frozen desserts.

You'd be hard pressed to find a product that everyone buys.

In the case of Fire Emblem and Shulk its completely understandable for Americans to not know their names.
Fire Emblem's American popularity exploded in 2013. In fact, it saved the series from what was to be its cancellation. GO west!

Shulk would be better known, except Gamestop bought up all the copies of his game and then marked them up to $80 as pre-owned.

AH, like Metroid. Still, compared to most successful game franchises its generally obscure.

Of course nobody knows who the hell Shulk is. But there were plenty of examples in there that should have been common knowledge.

Shulk has been in one game, on one system, that only had a limited run (even if Gamestop printed more) and cost $90 NEW. I'm not going to fault anyone for not knowing Shulk.

Somehow I missed the actual Smash Bros naming video. They did get some of the more obvious ones. The reactions to Wario had me laughing. "Eww, no!" and "My brother?"

*shows picture of Kirby* "Pikachu?" -_- Okay, even if you have no idea who Kirby is, you should know it's not Pikachu.

"Zelda." "Zelda." "Zelda." "Zelda." "Zelda."

Guys who can name a Kirby villain should know Link's name.

*shows Ganondorf* "That's evil Zelda dude."

*Fire Emblem* "Nope. Nope. Nope." Not even gonna throw in an Aragorn or Naruto, huh? :p

*Animal Crossing villager* "What was that one game, I play it all the time? ... I forget." ... ... ... ... ... I don't expect for people to recognize an Animal Crossing character, or even know of that game series, but YOU PLAY IT ALL THE TIME.

Okay, what the fuck? This one group knows Meta Knight and fucking R.O.B., but doesn't know Link?! R.O.B. Really.[DOUBLEPOST=1417352051,1417351999][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think the only reason I knew who Shulk was when announced is because of the small but loud fanbase who wanted him to be in Smash Bros so badly.

Welllllll shit. I traded in some games to Gamestop today. Because of their Black Friday special that gives you extra credit on trades, I got $50 credit...which I used to buy a Steam card for that amount.

Just got home and started adding things from my Wishlist to the cart, including Arkham Asylum and City ($4.99 each), Octodad (around $5), and Lego LOTR ($4.99).

Went to add a few more things (Saints Row package, $15; $2 more than Humble, but still a damn good deal) and Friday Night at Freddy's.

Except when I added them, when I was about to check out, it was right when Steam updated for the day...and the price of the Bat games, Octodad, and Lego LOTR all went up. Not by MUCH, mind you, like $3, but still enough that the principle of it made me decide to wait until they're back to 75% off another time.

Eh, I might still change my mind. Even at 50%, they're still good deals. Then again, I'll have enough to play as it is. :D
