But, guys, I'm super cool because my car ran on propane. Oh yeah.
My greatest fear was that I was going to get in an accident/someone running into my bumper because I was convinced I would take half the block with me in a fantastic explosion. Especially with a 25 gallon propane tank just chillin' in my trunk.

1971 AMC Hornet Sportabout, Crappy Powder Blue. Gas gauge didn't work; had to guess the mileage.
About three months after I started driving it, I took a turn too wide and plowed into the side of a building. Came about 18" away from garroting myself and a passenger. Car was pulled off the curb with the right front wheel dragging.
I kinda miss that car, because it used to be my mom's.

1979 Nova Rally. Paid about a grand to get it from a guy while I was up at Camp LeJeune. Transmission crapped out on me about 6 months after I came back to Savannah - it could have been rebuilt, but I just didn't have the money. City of Savannah towed it as a derelict vehicle from my driveway on Christmas Even, 2007. Bastards.

So, when I bought this car, one of the pieces of sales literature they flashed at me was a sheet of paper showing that I could possibly save up to $2500/year in gas due to the high mpg. I glanced at it, but didn't pay it much attention, as I know that hypothetical numbers in a sales pitch often bear little resemblance to what happens once you have the car on the road in the real world.First fill up. Today will be the 3rd day of driving, and I'll be a little under 3/4 of a tank when I get home from work. Normally I'd be much lower--I only got about 5 days of driving from a full tank in the old car. A quick mental estimate pegs my yearly gas savings at pretty close to $2000. So, even though the monthly payments between the two cars is similar, I'm actually paying somewhere around $160/month less in total cost of ownership. Actually, even less, since the car has a maintenance plan that makes all the oil changes and stuff free for the first 2 years.

First car was an '88 white Ford Taurus. I treated that poor car so badly. I took it to a salvage yard to sell, and the guy took it for a test ride and came back walking and pissed off.
He gave me 300 bucks. My next vehicle was a '94 Ranger Grape-ape Purple. It lasted until last year when I sold it for a grand. I paid 6 for it in '98. I treated that truck much much better and it ran forever. I now share my wife's '02 Grand Prix and I hate it. I can't wait to get rid of it.

I took a teacher test back in November to work towards getting a second license. I took what is generally considered the hardest one first. Finally got the results back, and I passed. All independent study, no training or coursework related to the subject and I passed.
I'm also organizing a fun holiday raffle for the kids in my school. It really feels nice to have a great day for the first time in quite awhile.
Probably means tomorrow will be horrible, though.

Friday night, I went out to a local bar. This morning, I went to church.
It was the same building.
Our church, a long time (three years) church without a home building, finally gained approval for rezoning for a former roadhouse bar building this past week. That was the only thing holding up the purchase of the property. We closed the sale Friday afternoon, had a little get-together at the place that evening for a "housewarming", and today - after an all-day cleanup session Saturday - held our very first service in our new home.
It was a bit strange to look around and seeing people sitting in our regular folding chairs, and a few others at the bar stools we still had left from the bar. However, it was a great morning. (No, @Cajungal, we didn't do any Hillsong songs during the service. )

Made the job change over, made new bosses proud, worked hard, everyone seems to be happy to have me. Old job made me a counter-offer, considered it for 3 seconds, said no thanks and went back to having no responsibility other than making the company money and helping everyone get shit done. I have never been happier and I don't miss the old job at all. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me, I love my new job!

So a few weeks ago, I helped one of my fellow instructors go for his third degree black belt. We trained like madmen for several weeks and I got thrown around and hit for almost four hours. He did a tremendous job. Much kudos to him.

My sister's baby was born yesterday morning. I had a night of needless fretting, but he was born healthy, 7 pounds, the first child in our family of his generation. I'm an uncle now!
