[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

Only a year and a half. Thats a short gap by Venture Bros standards.

Honestly, as much as I love it, I am kinda looking forward to binge watching the entire series once it ends.

Yeah, they mentioned there would be a shorter turn around this time because they are focusing on it and kept their calender clear so it'd get done.

Two guys doing the lion's share of the work.
Yeah, Hammer/Publick do the writing for every episode, plus the majority of directing/editing.
Sweet crispy Christ that's insane, but can't argue with success I guess. It's a good thing I've gained massive reserves of patience otherwise I would ignore said logical excuse and send emails to adult swim like when I was a teenager after fox cancelled One Piece. My love of One Piece distracted me from how much the dub sucked of course.

I've never watched LOST before. I'm now almost done with season 1. I've heard it turns to shit in the later seasons, but so far I've been enjoying it. I can see how watching this as it aired would have been frustrating, though. Yeah, yeah, enough about this bullshit about the boat, WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE FUCKING HATCH?

You'll be sick of that fucking hatch by the end of next season.

It gets REALLY GOOD after it's briefly kinda bad, and I think it ends strongly despite a lot of haters hatin' on the final season.

Yay for not spoiler tagging anything in a thread where someone explicitly stated that they're watching it for the first time.

Well fuck... this pretty much confirms that the other gems aren't friendly. Things are going to get nuts soon.

Agreed,
that is IF what we saw was a gem. Probably, but if something else that'd be neat too.

She was named Peridot, which follows the naming scheme of the other gems and was clearly a gem. There is no doubt about what she is.

Is there none? IS THERE? Probably not, but my love of twists and reveals makes me question every thing.

Regular show
Insert sigh of relief here!

Are Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl rogue Modrons? What if they're hiding from the rest of the crystal gems because they're crazy by that society's standards?

The running theory is basically that Rose Quartz was sent to Earth to take control of it from the indigenous population, decided that that was wrong, and lead the folks loyal to her (which may only be Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet or they may only be the survivors) into battle against the other Gems. This is supported by various comments (like Lapis Lazuli's) and by various background things (the mural of Rose fighting gems in the Pyramid). Once they won, they smashed the portal to home and home just didn't realize there was anything wrong until recently (because Gems have a poor concept of time, being immortal).

Unfortunately, this may also mean that Steven's existence is just a gambit towards unification: Rose is still part of Steven, but she needs to show the Gem homeworld that humans are worth saving and thought it could only happen if a Gem WAS human. This makes her death and abandonment of Steven a bit colder in retrospect.

I want to say with the Marvel cartoons it had to do with the Disney purchase and some internal re-org.
I think that was the case, considering how (to use a similar example) Spectacular Spider-Man was cancelled and then replaced by Ultimate Spider-Man, which purposefully has some elements of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in it.

It's not even this. They wanted a show that felt more tied to the movie universe, as opposed to one that was tied into the comics. To put it mildly, the entire Marvel comics division merely exists as a means to develop story content and to test the waters for future film production at the moment. That it makes money is nice, but it's there JUST to make marketable characters and stories to turn into movies, TV shows, and merchandise.

I could spend hours saying why the new avengers and spidey cartoons pale in comparison to their predecessors, but I need only one example: theme songs. Both the old ones had awesome rocking themes, while the new ones have a boring orchestral piece shown behind a black background and a logo. Ain't saying an opening theme needs lyrics, or needs to be that long, but it needs more than that.

The opening scenes of EMH's intro with Tony Stark watching Hydra come ashore in New York from this office's floor-to-ceiling windows in particular stuck with me as an excellent bit.
