[Gaming] Diablo 3 : Ser Farm-A-Lot

Well, so much for that. We don't have a TV with HDMI compatibility, so it's a no-go. Ah well.
You don't? How do you stand playing previous gen games on a non hd tv? I remember way back when first getting a ps3, before I had an hdtv, and finding the picture awful and the text hard to read because of it.

Doesn't bother me, really. I've been playing on crappy tv's for ages, and I don't really play Diablo for the reading experience :)

Hey, pal. I've played video games on a B&W television before, and it ain't no cakewalk when the tier of your gear is supposed to be segregated by color, but if I can do that, then he should be able to play D3 on a 525i television.

Color me stupid. I'd been saving my blood shards, and when I got to level 60, I thought "alright, this is when the good stuff starts dropping - I'll keep half for when I'm 70 but gamble a bit now for some of that early-ROS-overpoweredness!". Obvioulsy, I've replaced literally every item I gambled for with a far superior level 61 item. Gah.
I admit leveling this way is sorta fun and a lot faster...But i've now run into the "not enough money" problem, which I've literally never encountered in a Diablo game before :p Damn gem combiner money sink!

I have the money now on my seasonal to make the gems thanks to a trip to the Vault. Sadly, I have no more emeralds to combine. It takes a ton to make the high end gems.

You will eventually not have a money problem any more. This will happen when you get your first trip to The Vault and are granted the Boon of the Hoarder. First of all, the trip to The Vault will grant you many millions of gold, and second of all the legendary gem will VASTLY increase the amount of gold you find, especially when paired with items like Kymbo's Gold and Goldskin. Just remember that gold drop amount scales with difficulty, so if you're not getting enough gold, it might be time to turn up the difficulty.

Damn it. I really need to upgrade :( It can be a slog getting the cash I need to properly Gem-Up all my characters.
Oh, it's worse than that. It's a loooong, expensive slog to combine 729 flawless square gems into one radiant star gem, but once you hit level 61, the lowest level gem you ever find is the marquise gem (instead of the flawless square).

Wait, so you HAVE to use Flawless?!?

Edit: Nevermind, I see what you are saying. Yeah, I pretty much ignore gems until I get to lvl 70 if I can help it.

No, you just have to START with flawless square, because that's the highest level gem you can find when you're <= lvl60.
And then 3xFlawlessSquare = 1xPerfectSquare
and 3xPerfectSquare=1xRadiantSquare, 3xRadiantSquare=1xStar, 3xStar=1xFlawlessStar, 3xFlawlessStar=1xPerfectStar, then 3xPerfectStar=1xRadiantStar

And then 3xRadiantStar=1xMarquis...or you will just start getting Marquis level as your regular gem drop once you hit level 61 and up.
Also your Blacksmith crafting will completely change at level 61.

If you want the achievements for making them, it's a pain in the ass if you have the expansion. You'll never get enough Flawless Squares to make a Radiant Star without trading other players.

...which you can no longer do.
Also, I think they removed that achievement from the seasonal list. I had already achieved it in regular, so let me check...
...yep. It looks like "craft a Radiant Star" and "Craft a Radiant Star of each gem" have been moved to the "Feats of Strength" category, which is where they tend to park all the achievements that are no longer achievable.

Yeah. Not really concerned with getting achievements. It would be nice if there was a tangible bonus when you got achievements, like gold or the ability to add a socket to something, etc. Something which beneficial beyond letting others know you have no life.

Higher difficulty, more money, slightly tougher enemies...But rifts are sooo much slower, and I occasionally die (damn you combo's of uniques with horrible affixes too close together and damn my unwillingness to use mobility skills :p), and I've found *way* less (as in, none in several hours of play vs at least one every half hour or hour or so) unique items. I wonder if that's simply because I'm killing so much slower, or because I'm approaching level 70?

Wizard is 68 now (yes, I had a few days off and I've spent them playing DIII, why do you ask? :p). I'd imagine the Gem of Ease doesn't really make a huge difference anymore in the later levels, considering the amount of XP needed to level?

No idea how far the PS4 follows as far as patches/updates go...But no seasonal events, that much I do know.
Anyway, since the expansion, it's a game actually worth playing if you like the genre :)

Aside, since I've been monopolizing this thread lately anyway... Any good and actually up to date sources of information? Diablo Wiki has its limitations (though it's good) :p Most builds and such I find, or info on, say, Grift key drop chances, are a year old. (I know it'll only drop in Torment and higher level is higher chance, but what the drop rate is? Some say 50% in T1, which seems unlikely given my 6 T1 runs with no stone on my seasonal and at least twice as many with my regular characters :p ).

I can just keep asking here, of course :p

You're not monopolizing, I'm here with you @Bubble181 !

The official forums are pretty decent for some information and they have a lot of good links to class builds.

As far as Greater Rift Keys go, I have yet to finish a T6 rift that didn't drop a trial stone. Even on T5, I had regular misses.

PS4 and X-Box One update normally with the computer version. It's only the 360 and PS3 which are being left behind.

Playing a Barb right now. I think the Barbarian and the WD are my two favorite classes. Not big on the other classes so far. Hope I can tough it out and get all the classes to 70 (for personal completion sake)

DH pretty much requires mobility skills to stay alive, and they used to be the class capable of the highest damage. Since the change to 2H weapons, that's not as true any more, though they are still the fastest class when it comes to things like stuff that happens "...on-hit."
So, while leveling through rifts, my xp partner and I entered a room... with about 50 treasure goblins in it.

SO MUCH LOOT.
I've seen gob packs. The Vault is beyond even that.

I've been to the vault. I've just never seen a giant goblin herd before.

WARNING: MATH-ish

Have you ever pondered whether it was better to put a max ruby or a max emerald in a weapon?
Well, I did, and I'm possessed of a strong procrastination urge at the moment, so I did a little math and graphing, and here's what I discovered:
First let's take your average weapon, like this random 1H mace I pulled from image search (yes I know it's a pre-2.0 mace).
1YiSq.jpg

Assuming you don't already have a ruby of some kind in that socket (that's important cuz it'll skew the results!), yer gonna want to take that big, fat damage number that's right in your face (in this case, 840.2), and you're going to divide it by twice the weapon's attack speed* (e.g., 1.2 * 2 = 2.4).
840 / 2.4 = 350
(I'm gonna round these results to be slightly less math-scary)

Now nobody crits 100% of the time**, so we have to account for that. Take the above result and multiply it by your crit chance. Let's assume at level 60 you have a crit chance of about 21%. Don't include things like the caltrops rune "Bait the Trap" or the Scoundrel's passive unless you know you're always going to be standing in its field of effect.
350 * 0.21 = 73.5

Now compare that result (73.5) against your total displayed crit damage % (whatever it might be).
If the modified weapon result you got is LARGER than your crit damage % then you will want to socket a max emerald.
If the modified weapon result you got is SMALLER than your crit damage % then you will want to socket a max ruby.

What all this arithmetic does is find which side of the "break-even" point your weapon is on, because once your "base" weapon damage surpasses that threshold, your final damage output will benefit more from the damage magnification of the +130% crit boost granted by the max emerald than it will from the +270 boost to the fundamental "base" damage granted by the max ruby.

--Patrick
*Not the # of your attacks/sec that's displayed on the "Details" page, but the stated "Attacks per Second" straight off the weapon info sheet.
**Without taking advantage of some rather wacky builds, that is.
