Random Video Game Crap

Picked up a New 3DS XL and Omega Ruby. Realized after I got home that I forgot to buy a charger.

Luckily my brother's 3DS XL is charged so I can borrow his cable until I get around to buying one.

Yeah, which is cool because I have both Black 1 and Platinum, so I could probably get about 30-40 knocked off total if I'm lucky.
Hrm, those were going for more last year. My wife traded in Pearl, SoulSilver, White, and White 2, and walked out with around $100. But ORAS has come out since then, so I get that the older games are becoming less valuable.

Gamestop trade-in prices aren't just affected by age of the game, but also how much they have/need in stock and how quickly the game will move. This is why something like FF13 is worth nothing (because no one wants it and they plenty of stock) while Dark Souls is worth more than titles of similar age (It's in demand so they always need more). Pokemon games have similar issues: People still want copies of Diamond and Pearl to transfer their Fire Red and Leaf Green teams to the DS series, but D/P took a bit of a hit when OR/AS hit because you didn't need to transfer R/S pokemon through them anymore. People still want those titles to get legitimate versions of Jirachi (along with the gamecube disc that lets you spawn them) but that's about it.

So yes... older Pokemon games are less valuable at Gamestop, but some are always going to be in demand for particular uses.

I blame ORAS largely because of the region reason, but also because most legendaries can now be acquired in gen 6.

In Dark Souls-ish personal random crap, after much internal debate, I've decided to get Bloodborne instead of Dark Souls 2: SOTFS this spring. I'm only going to have time for one at a time and that's the one that excites me more.

It's going to be a bit of a transition. Bloodborne is a much quicker, offense oriented game, which is why you don't get shields anymore and only limited parries (you fire the gun to stun enemies mid-swing now). Magic is completely gone because they couldn't find a proper balance for it: It was game breaking in Demon's Souls, a bit more balanced in Dark Souls, and not worth the effort in Dark Souls 2 unless you made some very specific build choices. Potions will be even more limited as well.

I can't wait.

Yeah, and I'd like to make that journey at the same time as other people. I'm already late to the game on DS2, another bunch of months won't matter. But Bloodborne looks better and better every screenshot, every gameplay aspect, and since I've already got a PS4, it should be a priority this March.

Apparently I've already paid for the Sonic Amiibo that's now sitting at Gamestop. So I guess I'll pick it up then.
Yeah... when I went to get my Mega Man Amiibo on Monday, they literally handed it to me through a door because someone had already robbed the store for them once and they didn't want a repeat. Amiibo is serious business apparently, but it looks like I can really only get like $50 bucks for Mega Man right now... so I'm gonna unbox him sooner or later and put him on my shelf.

Jim Sterling plays DEADLY PROFITS, an Early Access game on Steam by the same developers of The Slaughtering Grounds (who Jim has already had some big run-ins with and did a big 2-part video on THAT debacle). They're selling this game for $25.

And like last time, the Steam forums are filling up with criticism and people trying to link Jim's video or just mention that he did a review of it.

Every single thread and post about it is being deleted and the user perma-banned from the forum. Including yours truly.

So these assholes learned nary a single lesson from The Slaughtering Grounds debacle.

Pfft, later? I freed that sucker the moment I got home.

Sonic, on the other hand, can sit in his box. I shouldn't have picked him up, but since I don't want to mimic the scalper scum that make it so I'll never see Ike and probably not get Lucina, I'm still deciding what to do with him.

But Rock's my baby and I'm keeping him. Gonna train him up so I'll have someone to play Smash Bros 3DS with.

:foreveralone:

But...you sold the 3ds smash bros right
I sold Wii U Smash. I downloaded the 3DS version believing it was going to be my game of the year, so I didn't feel a need to keep the Wii U version around since the same fundamental problem exists for both versions--I have no one IRL to play with--and I'm stuck with the 3DS version since you can't sell downloaded games.

And since I have a New 3DS, I have Amiibo support, so I may or may not train my little Amiibo. He's not going to see any other action; it's not like Capcom is going to release a game that'll support a Mega Man Amiibo.

Yanno, I should go down to the local Wallyworld and see what they have for these thingys on the shelf. In case anyone here wants one.

I still get emails from Piranha Games about Mechwarrior Online. I don't know how they keep a playerbase when their prices continue to be beyond insane for stuff.

Get the Madcat pack, only 210 dollars! A HUR HUR HUR.

I used to be in an outfit with about 30 guys, 2 of which are real life friends of mine. They've each spent close to $1000 on mechs, I'm pretty sure.

Of course, I've not spent one red goddamn cent because I'm not a complete fucking sap.

That's kind of my opinion of Mechwarrior too. I picked a mech I liked, then worked it until I had it figured out. C-Bills were enough.

I'm not opposed to paying for stuff in f2p/b2p games. God knows I've spent close to a hundred on SWTOR and at least that much in The Secret World. But I only buy shit I want, not stuff I feel I -need-.

I've thrown a few bucks in on some F2P stuff, before, but MWO doesn't deserve the money.

But there are some high 30s/40s professional nerds with a lot of disposable income runnin' round.

You don't need to remind me. Columbus's Brewery District used to be a historical curiosity for close to 50 some years... then Chase built a huge fucking complex and all the 20/30 something nerds who worked there started financing craft breweries. Now we have one of the richest beer scenes in the country, along with mead and absinthe.

Nerds with money are alternatively a source of good and evil in this world.

That explains the Blue Jackets, then.

I actually think the Blue Jackets predate Chase in Columbus by a few years... really, it more explains why we still have the Columbus Crew, who foster enough talent to have members make the US World Cup team but most in Columbus don't actually give two shits about.

Ohio sports teams are weird. The Bengals notwithstanding, we have a football teamed named after a coach, a soccer team named after our blue collar union workers, a hockey team named after the Union Army, and several named after a kind of seed.

A friend of mine has been selling these hand made plushies of the TF2 dispensers for a couple years now. About a year ago she sent some to Valve, and Valve contacted her, and rather than giving her a C&D and claiming copyright infringement, they not only bought her designs, but involved her in every step of the mass production design (which fabric, where seams should go to best retain form, etc. They're machine produced now so elements of the design needed to change). ANYWAY, they are officially available today so i though I would pump them here for her.

Man, why can't more companies be open and welcoming like this?

Goddamn console games are expensive... how do you peasants put up with this?
Today's console peasants are called nouveau riche.

Keep in mind that if you're buying 1st-party Nintendo games, you're almost always going to be paying full price. Nintendo rarely does sales, and people rarely trade in their Nintendo games.

At the same time, most Nintendo first party titles are worth that price. I might not like paying 50-60 for a Zelda game, but I can't argue that I won't get my money out of it.
