Movie News & Miscellany

Story, lore, back story,...are different things in my mind, though. There's games with great lore and crappy stories, and with completely generic and bland lore but great sotires. T here may be a great world with interesting lore behind the games, the story of the games themselves is pretty sparse, no?

Not really. At this point the name of two of the three controlled characters is known, the reason you're there is known, and basically most all details have been filled in. We know why the animatronics move and kill, we know who the guy on the phone messages is, and we know the reason (and even years) the various places opened and closed (and the reasons why). If you check out any of the dozens/hundreds of videos on FNaF's lore/story at this point, the story's pretty complete.[DOUBLEPOST=1428515014,1428514793][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, Ash is pretty correct in that the overall narrative isn't as complete and solid as most game/comic-to-movie tie-ins, so the writer would likely have some breathing room. The article makes it sound like Scott Cawthon, the creator, might have some input in the process, so he could possibly help fill in details as well.

There is basically no story in Five Nights to mess up... so this movie is going to sink or swim entirely on the basis of what they have the main character do between nights. If they can make that part compelling, the horror scene nights will be just fine.
Then I guess the terrible one will be It :p.

That old made-for-TV movie was so hokey, but True Detective guy knows how to parallel process two time periods of a story. I can't expect any visual adaptation to do the book's ending well. Even if you cut out the trippy shit, it asks the audience to alternate between the climax in the 50s and the climax in the 80s, being told side by side essentially. Which is actually very easy to do visually; I thought Oculus did that pretty well, but I'd need to temper expectations if I'm going to enjoy it at all.

A little concept art has been released for X-Men: Apocalypse, along with the announcement of Ben Hardy as Angel.
I thought you said Tom Hardy at first and... well... I don't know how I felt. It felt strange. A mix of emotions I can't quite describe. Sort of like "This doesn't seem right, but it might end up awesome nonetheless, but it might end up completely wrong too..."

Yeah, this is Ben Hardy who will be Angel. I've checked and the main thing he seems to have done was that show EastEnders.

You're assuming it's not going to get turned into a family friendly comedy with the animatronics as main characters.

Actually the highlander cartoon was pretty interesting... and people died (offscreen) in it. Then again it was part french as i recall.

I just looked her up and it doesn't seem like anyone really knows what her power is. The assumption is telepathy and some kind of nightmare-based prophetic ability, seems like.

Weird.

AKA "Whatever the writer wants it to be this particular issue" power.
It looks like she showed up back when there were eleventy-billion Mutants, so I'm assuming they just kind of did that, yeah. Telepathics always seem to be the ones that just sort of fill whatever power gap there is thanks to the advent of Secondary Mutations.

Wasn't she one of those genoshan mutants that where just there to be obliterated by sentinels?
She wasn't one of those killed, but she did have a vision of the Genoshan massacre when it happened.

EDIT: Nevermind. She did die, but she's sort of ping-ponged between being dead and alive.

That's what I was thinking, too...but I'm also thinking she's the sort of character you would expect to cameo in a Deadpool movie.
...but we'll probably get someone like Paladin, instead.

It's also a Fox production, not Marvel/Disney, so they're limited to what characters they can include.

Also, there's the fact that it apparently won't be an origin story.
The only way I could stomach another origin story for Spidey is if it's the Miles Morales route. Like Spider-man is already around, but we find out how Miles intersects into his life and the movie is about Miles picking up the mantle after something happens. Otherwise I literally could not give two fucks at this point.

OHHH, what a God damn trainwreck this film is shaping up to be.

Everyone involved in this teaser should be fucking ashamed of themselves.
