Didn't the company that produced Troll go after Rowling? The movie protagonist's name is Harry Potter and he gets drawn into a world of magic, but the similarities beyond those are light.

I suppose that's one way to get rid of all the leftover VHS.

I've been reading some debating about which film people think will be the biggest draw this year, Avengers or Star Wars. I'm pulling for the plucky underdog Fast 7, which a lot of folk seem to have conveniently forgotten made almost a billion in a little over a week.

While that's definitely a big film, I'm fairly confident both A2 and SW7 will blow that figure out of the water.

I think worldwide will be neck and neck between Fast 7 and Star Wars 7, and domestic will be neck and neck between Avengers 2 and Star Wars 7

Are they going to play it straight, or will it still be metacomedy, with actors playing actors?
Dunno, they don't seem to know much at all about the plot, save that it's based on the movie. Sounds like they're trying to get as many people from the movie production back on the show as they can, though, which could be good news.

If they made the show about MAKING the show... like we get bits of the show, but then we get bits about the actors and the stuff they are doing as well... then yeah, I'd watch. Half the charm of Galaxy Quest is it's meta-commentary on Star Trek and sci-fi shows in general.

Much as I love Galaxy Quest, I'm not sure a whole show about its - as Ash said - meta-commentary on Star Trek and such would have enough concept to stand on. At least not without wearing out its welcome.

Also, it might be tough to get much of the original cast. I don't see Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, or Sam Rockwell slumming it on TV. I thought that's how most actors viewed TV once they hit the big screen? That going back down was slumming it?

Tim Allen hasn't had a big movie in years. I could see him doing it... but no, it's generally not seen as slumming it if it's a pet project or whatever. I don't think anyone would calling being on Breaking Bad or the Walking Dead "slumming it" these days. There are also the guys who've done both but make their money from TV (Bruce Campbell, Charlie Sheen, etc) so they have no compunctions about it.

That's true. I think that "slumming" barrier has been worn down over the years, maybe starting with Keifer Sutherland doing 24. And TV shows in general seem to be talked about more these days. Still, I don't know. People like Weaver and Rickman have never really done the TV thing before.

Alan Rickman actually got his start in TV in the late 80's, though he hasn't done a ton of it since.

Tim Allen has a show on ABC right now, last man standing.

Been giving more thought to that question asked in the Forbes article I mentioned in the Marvel/Netflix Deal thread. Between all these movies and TV series, neither company can possibly sustain these sustained universes, right? Marvel especially, when they have the movies and all the TV series planned.

Anyway, I expanded on these thoughts in a new blog post. Have a look if you're interested.

I don't trust the studios not to screw this up. There's so many ways for things to go wrong with this glut of superheroes. If they don't drive viewers away with oversaturation, they'll pull another Batman & Robin.

It had better, if it wants to go out on a good note.

People call Netflix originals TV. I'm talking about all of that. If the shows eventually were only run on streaming, people would probably still call them TV. Language tends to cling for a while even after it's become technically incorrect.

Hey you take that back you bastard! He doesn't drive them for the money, he's been driving them since before he was famous, alright alright alright.
The evidence would say otherwise

It's good that they're keeping Baxter's original ethnicity, but .... Tyler Perry? Really? I feel like there's better casting choices.

I kind of feel like the biggest black actors who'd even consider this are going to ether be terrible for the role or be a comedian trying to play the role straight. This might be the best they can get, realistically speaking.
