So what I'm hearing is that the GOP ticket will be Walker-Christie in 2016?

(EDIT: Dangit, I keep forgetting the </sarcasm> tag...)
While my need to be entertained hopes for Cruz/Paul, the inner "not so fun at parties" cynic in me says Bush/yet-to-be-named-Republican-Senator

I don't think Walker would be satisifed as Vice President. He actually likes getting things done and that can't happen when he's dealing with a room full of Bush advisers (which tend to be very controlling). By the same measure, I don't see the Bush dynasty wanting such a rogue element as part of their team ether... Walker does whatever he wants, he's not a team player. This runs counter to the way the Bush family tends to run their government.

Also, FUCK dynastic shit. We need an amendment to prevent more than 2 members of the same line from holding office within 30 years of each other, at least at the national level.

Especially when said dynasty was partially established through profits from the Holocaust.

See, Prescott Bush, father of George Herbert Walker Bush and grandfather of George Walker Bush (Dubya), was director of the NYC-based Union Banking Corporation and a member of the firm Brown Brothers Harriman. A major client of these companies was Fritz Thyssen, who in the early 1930's was a vital financial supporter of Hitler and the Nazi movement, until they had a falling out towards the end of the decade. Thyssen owned the largest steel and coal company in German and the re-armament efforts made him enormously wealthy. A bank he controlled in the Netherlands owned UBC, which worked exclusively on his behalf. One of the businesses that was part of the network of multinational front companies owned and run by UBC was Consolidated Silesian Steel Corporation, based in the mineral rich area of Silesia, on the German-Polish border. CSSC used slave labor from Auschwitz and other concentration camps to maintain a high profit margin. Prescott Bush was linked to the management of CSSC. In 1942, after America entered the war, Bush's interests were seized under the Trading With The Enemy Act, but not his personal fortune. Also seized was a side-venture of Prescott Bush, the Silesian-American Company.

The money Prescott made helping enrich the backer of the Nazis was used to secure George HW's future - Yale, top level connections, etc, and that in turn secured Dubya's legacy.

I thought most countries didn't blame family members for the actions of their parents? Or is that back in style now?

http://www.today.com/money/gravity-payments-ceo-dan-price-raising-minimum-pay-70k-t15246?cid=sm_fbn

A Seattle-based CEO has given himself a massive pay cut from around 1 million dollars to $70,000. Then distributed that cut to the rest of his employees so that they all made $70,000. Some employees wound up having their salaries doubled and talked about things like buying a house or a new car.

It sounds like the move is getting a lot of positive PR for the company. I wonder if other CEOs might follow suit? If enough did, would it give the market in general a boost? With people buying houses and such? I don't know. I'm not an expert on market stuff. Still, I think it's an interesting move by this guy.

I agree with the sentiment in principle, but if a political dynasty arises I guess it's because they are using the family name for their benefit, right? Then it's only fair that the name can also be used against them.

It does seem an odd thing to invoke the sins of the (grand) father, when George HW Bush was an Avenger pilot in WWII who flew 58 missions, received the Distinguished Flying Cross, three Air Medals, and the Presidential Unit Citation.

When talking about political dynasties, it's important to recognize where the dynasty got its founding.
But important to who? Historians probably, protesters likely, but voters? HW was Veep then President. Jeb and Dubya both were elected and re-elected governors. Dubya was elected and re-elected president. If Prescott's pre-WW2 ties to germany were going to make a difference, I think it would have by now. Because we're not talking about who would be the best leader, we're talking who is a likely political candidate, which are two different things.

And after all, as Covar alluded, the origin of the Kennedy dynasty didn't matter to their voters. They had and have worshippers unto the grave and beyond - even Teddy, drunk, incompetent, directly-and-personally-not-to-mention-criminally-responsible-for-a-woman's-death Teddy.... the undefeatable "Lion of the Senate."

That's a fair point. Actually, after Billy Carter and Roger Clinton, I guess it should be rather clear that family doesn't really matter with candidates to voters.

I don't think name necessarily means all that much for voters (though name recognition can be a good thing, of course). There's still such a thing as networking, and knowing the ins and outs and all that, and in those respects it's obviously advantageous to have a family members who's been there.

I am way too hormonal to be in charge and potentially start wars because I am feeling hormonal. :'(
Diplomacy would break down!

"Uh, hello, this is the prime minister of Canada... why are American troops advancing over our borders?"

".... Oh I think you know why."

"What? No, really, what's going on?"

"Well, if you don't know I'm not going to tell you."

"What? What is it?! What do you WANT?"

"(Sigh) IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE."

I think Adam from US Top Gear used to do that bit.

y'know, starting a war because you're hormonal seems rather more justified than doing so because you want a sweet consulting job after your voice presidency is over. Or for the fun of standing on a boat with a big sign reading "mission accomplished"

Or because you hate Jews.

One of the foreign language professors at my college was notorious for going off into rants about how wars would be different if they were women-centric, about how all the weaponry would be more yonic or mound-like instead of being all bullets/rockets/rifle barrels, etc.
Whenever it happened, you just had to sit there and weather the storm until it passed.

Yeesh. There is a point where physics take over.

I figured the USA as far more Catholic. Or at least a wider distribution, though if that's a "Color is chosen by dominant majority" thing then that makes sense.

I'm not surprised the US isn't more Catholic. I might have been when I still lived in an area where everyone was Catholic, but since moving away, I know better. Some denomination of Christian yes, specifically Catholic no.
