Movie News & Miscellany

So I guess Tim Curry had a stroke, and oh God don't look unless you want to be super depressed. Apparently the stroke was 3 years ago but he's not been out in public much since.
It's tough seeing someone you grew up watching go through something like this. You know what breaks my heart? Seeing Bobby "The Brain" Heenan today:

A guy whose entire career was made through speaking (heh, and never shutting up), but throat cancer has destroyed any of that. But amazingly, like Tim Curry, he seems to have kept his spirits up.[DOUBLEPOST=1433840671,1433840589][/DOUBLEPOST]
In happy news, Uwe Boll seems to be done with movie making!
Awww, poor Uwe Boll. He suddenly realizes that almost all his success was because of that loophole through German subsidies. Now he can't make money for movies the proper way because - surprise! - no one gives a shit about his terrible filmmaking. Good fucking riddance.

I has a sad now. I was in Jr. High during the days of the first Wrestlemania, and Bobby was one of the star managers and commentators. I'd rather remember those days. :(

Sometimes threads look so weird due to having Charlie ignored - conversations seem to take these tremendously bizarre turns and it's like, "What the hell?"

Then I realize: "Ah. Charlie."

What, is Anthony Mackie chopped liver to you, ya racist?
I had no idea he was even in Avengers 2 since no one has mentioned him in any discussion of the movie nor was he featured in any promotion of the movie that I saw. I'm going to guess that since it's an overstuffed piece of shit, he probably rolls up and says two lines and peaces out and you're reaching[DOUBLEPOST=1433842525][/DOUBLEPOST]
So, would it be accurate to say that you feel FF7's racially diverse cast was a key factor in its worldwide appeal?

To put it more bluntly, did black people and Asian people and Hispanic people watch FF7 because it contains black and Asian and Hispanic cast members?

I.. yeah. This isn't a big opinion, it's kind of a fact that people like to see movies with people in them that look like them. Hence the "surprising" success of female-driven movies (pitch perfect, magic mike) and movies with black casts (white people always like 'how are these tyler perry movies popular?!?!?' etc).

Anthony Mackie was in much more of Avengers 2, but the studio cut Whedon's original edit down by an hour and decided Mackie's stuff didn't need to be there. The theatrical cut does get Don Cheadle being silly, though.

It amazes me that the world hasn't progressed enough for humans to empathize with humans yet, but we can all empathize with cute little robots and animals as protagonists.

Got it in one.

I'm really hoping we get those extra scenes in the DVD edition because the movie (despite being 2+ hours) actually feels LIGHT on content because they cut so much of the developmental stuff.

It's an hour worth of scenes; I'm expecting Director's Cut or Extended Edition so they can make more money.

I'll believe a ReBoot reboot when I'm actually watching it. I think this is the fourth or fifth one announced?

Isn't the first time we've seen mockups and artwork for a new season of Reboot and until it actually exists, I'm gonna reserve judgment.

To be fair, they did release some comics about the series awhile back... and it's not like Rainmaker hasn't been doing stuff in the mean time ether. To keep the company going, they did..

- the MTV Spider-man show (which was good but got cancelled because MTV couldn't afford it)
- Hotwheels: Highway 35
- Scary Godmother (3 of them, at least)
- Tons of Barbie movies
- Several Casper CG movies
- Escape from Planet Earth
- All the pre-render work for Ghostbusters: The Video Game
- TONS more

... they currently have a 105 episode deal to do Bob the Builder, not to mention they are working on the Ratchet and Clank movie (which is in production) and the Sly Cooper movie (which is pre-production). These guys have put out just... enormous amounts of crap to stay afloat but they've also done a ton of good stuff too.

As I mentioned before, Rainmaker is doing the upcoming Ratchet and Clank movie (Spring 2016!). Apparently it's a retelling of the first game, so we're getting a PS4 Ratchet and Clank game that retells the movie's retelling of the first game. I'd imagine the movie is going to look as good or better than the game, so here's what the game looks like...

I thought he was Eric Clapton at first.[DOUBLEPOST=1433971651,1433971529][/DOUBLEPOST]
even our reboots are getting rebooted nowadays.

I have faith this will turn out well. The first two were much better than I had ever expected, and the same people responsible for those are back for this one as well.

They literally had high level cultural meetings in China over Kung Fu Panda. The Communist Party was completely ashamed that one of the most culturally authentic, fun, respectful, and interesting takes on Chinese culture was created by an AMERICAN STUDIO. They couldn't understand why they hadn't made it first. But you really only need to look at stuff like 1911 to understand why they haven't done it: filmmakers and actors are worried about being blacklisted back home, so they take ZERO CHANCES when it comes to stuff mentioning Communism. I mean... the story behind the Communist revolution in China is legitimately interesting and they turned it into a boring action film with no style. How do you make a movie with no style when you're working with Jackie Chan?

Kung-Fu Panda was great, and somehow Kung-Fu Panda 2 was even better, so very much looking forward to the third, especially with the stinger they left us at the end of 2.

It's plot will be considered controversial when the film makes claims that Groucho skinned teenage girls alive and wore clown makeup 24/7.

So another crapfest full of actors who sound like local commercial fare that somehow still gets attention from critics?
