Has this one been posted? It's called Power Nap. It's about a future where sleep has been eliminated for all but a few irregulars like the protagonist. I haven't read much, but it's good so far.

Actually, I think somebody posted it a few years ago. It was interesting but updated too slowly for me.. maybe now that it's had time to build an archive (and I use an RSS feed concatenator) I'll give it another chance.

Yeah, this was basically my take. It's still on my lists and still good, but it updates really slowly.

Dumbing of Age today, I'm a little disgusted. Not by Beckie and Dina, but by the others' assertions of Dina being like a little kid. She doesn't do well with people, and their reaction is to invalidate her as an adult. What the fuck? I'm not super-surprised by Sarah, but Joyce should know better being someone that others have treated like a child before, and friggin' Dorothy would seem wiser than that (albeit she is drunk at the moment).

Yeah that was messed up, I've been there and it stings like a mother fucker.

The best was the way Dina looked in that one panel. She was obviously furious and disappointed by the people she had come to feel she could be at least somewhat comfortable around.

I'm just glad it wasn't Amber making comments. I think that would have hurt most.

Scott Meyer of Basic Instructions has announced he's going to stop producing new strips because he has discovered he is repeating himself. I can respect that.

http://basicinstructions.net/basic-.../how-to-recognize-a-vicious-circle-rerun.html

It's too bad. I liked the schadenfreude of mocking Rick, the revulsion of watching Jenkins sink ever deeper into misanthropy, the gleeful sociopathy of mulletboss, and the neverending (but ever repeating and predictable) fights between Rocket Hat and the Moon Emperor.

So anyway, the series will now go into reruns 3 days a week, and at that rate, it will take 6 years to go through all the strips again.

...Kurtz, take note.

Wow. I really dislike what Penny-Arcade's art style has become. I've been re-reading the first 7 collected volumes of PA, and I love the way the art looked starting in 2004. Today's comic just looks... diseased.

I, too, feel like they've gone and pushed the Tartakovsky slider too far to the right.

Tycho looks like he has treacher collins syndrome in the latest strip.

While Gabe has the snake eyes which they tend to get from time to time.

Yeah... my thoughts on the matter have basically been:

- Fans of that type of genre WOULD survive the initial culling, baring any heroics to saved loved ones (and honestly, they deserve it if they even try)
- However, baring any serious advantages like a significant food and water stockpile, it's likely many simply aren't fit enough to survive the "education" period of learning how to survive
- Therefore, lots of Zombies in Walking Dead t-shirts after a few weeks.

Getting back to penny arcade... GAH. GABE IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE THIS

NOT LIKE THIS

I mean, it's like they took an extended multi-year break and have just been letting progressively worse and worse guest artists draw the strip. The teeth alone have been getting more ridiculously curved every year. If this continues, those buck teeth are going to put piercings in his bottom lip.

I, for one, do not dislike the new style. Sometimes it gets a bit too grotesque, but I take it as some artistic experimentation.

It feels less like experimentation and more like evolution. Over the course of the last 8 years, Gabe's teeth have gradually gone from just as straight at Tycho's to being sinusoidal to Bugs Bunny with vampire canines. The noses look like everybody always has a cold, and every frame looks like somebody trying to do a wild take. It's been a constant, gradual trip from there to here, which makes me grumpy because if it was just experimentation, I might could expect something different in the next comic, something new, instead of just a further gradual "more of this."

No, that's what I mean. There's an evolution to a more cartoony, exagerated style that doesn't bother me. But lately, there's something that goes beyond cartoony shapes and anatomical proportions, things are sometimes distorted, like in a drugged dream sequence of a cartoon. That's what I think must be experimentation...

The nose/ear color thing has something to do with the color values of the human face. The problem is when you take those shades to the extreme (a popular fad of Tumblr artists especially) and everyone ends up looking like WC Fields.

Stepping away from Penny Arcade for a second, David Willis' announcement over at Dumbing of Age got me right in The Feels. And talk about life imitating art! Sadly, he has already confirmed they will not be named Sal and WalkyDavid.

Except that Gabe doesn't look old enough for Fields, he looks like an alcoholic sixth grader.

YES-classic Walky! This shall sate me for now, until that story where the martians come back and the kids of former Semme agents fight them which should TOTALLY happen.

I am happy to see him making some comics set in the old universe cause I just think Walky and Joyce make the best couple ever :D

I don't begrudge Gabe's/Mike's grotesquery, since it's probably the only way he can keep doing PA. If he had to draw the same characters unchanged from 2004 to the present (cripes, that's over a decade now) dude would probably spend the first 20 minutes at his drawing table repeatedly slamming his head to the desk.

Didn't seem to be a problem for Jim Davis. Or Berkely Breathed, or Charles Schultz, or...
