[Movies] The Upcoming Movies Trailer Thread

I agree. I read Peanuts growing up, and I've read much of the collected reprints, including some of the really old strips when Snoopy was just a puppy. Peanuts has gone through a lot of shifts in tone over the years, and the only thing really out of character in this trailer is the soundtrack, and I don't have a problem with that. It's a little strange for pop music to be associated with Peanuts, but I think it works for the trailer (and I can't find any evidence it will be in the film).
I'm noticing they do this with a lot of trailers for animated movies these days regardless of the movie's content. Do a trailer that'll make the kids giggle and then do the movie whatever way you want.

Tangled is probably the most notorious, with the whole hair attack scene ... none of which was in the movie. I passed up on that and Megamind because the trailers made the movies come off as really stupid, but then later found out they were really good movies that the trailers had misrepresented.

Your comment is funny. The people not comprehending the joke is disturbing to me intellectually.

While seeing Mad Max again today, I knew the order of the trailers since they repeated them from before ... when suddenly there was an interruption by James Cameron, to promote Terminator Genisys. And damn if he didn't make it sound interesting, as if throughout the movie there are twists and turns on the first Terminator movie, that he considers this to be the proper 3rd movie in the series. Maybe it's just his experience with the series, or maybe it's that James Cameron witchcraft that makes his movie's so successful, but I'm kinda of re-interested in seeing it.

Brainwashing.

I liked all the Matrix movies. Sure, from an objective perspective, I can see where might've gone wrong from a filmmaking point of view. Still pleasurable to watch, though.

The problem with the sequels of the Matrix is like the problem with the sequels to Dune: the first one was both a good action movie/scifi adventure and had some philosophical depth; the sequels sort of eroded the latter, explained things that would be better left unexplained, and thereby made the original less deep-seeming than before. This doesn't necessarily mean the Matrix sequels, Star Wars prequels or Dune sequels are bad books or movies on their own - they just didn't live up to expectations.

The Star Wars prequels, mainly the first one, really do suck, though, independently of anything else :p

I prefer to think of the Matrix trilogy as one really long movie. And if possible, watch the whole thing start to finish at once. It really shows that Reloaded and Revolutions's only true flaw was being only as good as the original, and not as much better than the first as the first was better than everything else in the 90s.

They also spend a lot of time on things that don't necessarily advance the plot or develop the characters; there are quite a few "scene for the sake of a scene" moments.

The first movie was much "tighter." The second and (to a much greater extent) the third, suffer more from pacing issues than anything else. Some scenes go on longer than they need to and distract from the narrative. This excess lingering lengthens the movie(s) but breaks the immersion (unless you've been toking during the film, I guess).

The first movie actually had a good idea behind it, while the two sequels decided to ruin the ending where Neo ascends to a higher plane and just have him be using more computer memory to be faster, also made it all a lie in order to have the films have some stakes.

IMO it would have been much better if the 2nd film was about him finding out the 1st One made a deal with the machines to allow Zion to exist, because, even with complete control of the Matrix, freeing everyone is impossible, and using the stalemate of the machines threatening to destroy Zion if he tries to alter the Matrix too much to broker some sort of peace (which the Oracle reveals was her plan all along), while RevenantSmith is slowly taking over in the background. Then in the 3rd everyone finally realises how much of a threat Smith actually is after he takes over a human, then returns to the Matrix from a human body with Neo like powers because he too realised that there is no spoon, which turned him rampant.

I view Agent Smith as breaking free of control (turning in the earpiece that directed him) allowing him to roam/replicate and transform into the incarnation of an entity I deem "The Many," and the movie's climax hinges on the fact that it is impossible for one entity to simultaneously be the incarnation of "The One" and "The Many," hence his defeat was caused by his stubborn insistence on trying to integrate The One into his gestalt. An interesting safeguard, possibly built into the kernel of the Matrix itself to prevent rogue/runaway processes.

So, this must be what it's like for a doctor watching a medical drama. I can already see things in this movie that are going to piss me right off.

Your thoughts @MindDetective?

Billy Crudup does have Zimbardo's voice down, though.

I both loved and hated the episode of Veronica Mars that had Logan and Wallace taking part in a version of that study.

I have to agree with @Bubble181. The Matrix sequels were midichlorians. I mean, don't get me wrong: I watched them and was entertained, but they weren't as good as the first, and a lot of things really felt like they were straining the metaphor. A lot. Like I said in another thread, I've always found the story neat to read in synopsis form, but I remember feeling like they were a slog. It was like going to a Christmas party on the 28th of December. It's still kind of fun, but you know Christmas is over, and you're only dragging out the inevitable.

He's a selfish dick who invented nothing, created nothing, and gave nothing back but misery and disdain. I will not see this film because I refuse to give in to the hero worship of this man.

Hah, I did a double take because at first I thought this was about Chris Farley, then I saw the steve jobs video that got posted after that.

But for like 2 seconds I was thinking, "Wow, did Chris Farley personally punch Dave in the dick or something?"
