Movie News & Miscellany

A lot of these types of copyright notices are never expected to win, but are done to protect the IP. For instance, the whole issue with KING trying to shutdown the use of "Saga" (by suing the Banner Saga peeps) was to give their upcoming copyright claim more weight. Now KING lost that claim but their hands were tied if they wanted to have the best case possible. You have to protect your claims in every instance you are made aware of or someone can go to a judge and say "See how this company isn't defending their copyright, despite our clear use of it? They've abandoned it and it belongs in the public domain." That'll lead to a long, expensive lawsuit.
that is such a horrible broken system, it makes me mad every time I hear about it. Also, technically, they could also give a one-off license the copyright under specific ("your game is nothing like mine") circumstances.

Yes and that's essentially the deal Notch struck with Bethesda I believe, but KING wasn't in that sort of position. They hadn't been granted the copyright yet, so any permission they could give would be tenuous at best.

Yah, they mention that fact in my link.
I've half a mind to create a YouTube account just to post a 10hr video of two pixels blinking back and forth and name it "Pixels" just to troll the takedown bot.

I'm sure the bot will be infuriated by your trolling.

Update!
Updated August 10th @ 15:15 EDT (20:15 BST): The affected videos have all been brought back online. A Vimeo representative confirmed to Ars Technica that this was a result of the original complainant, Entura International, withdrawing its original takedown notice, which had incorrectly alleged that the videos in question contained footage from the Columbia Pictures film [Pixels].
Sanctions? Nope. Well.

If WoW orcs are so big, why they hell can't orcs just tear humans and elves apart with their bare hands?

From the leaked, unfinished SFX shots from Comic-con, I'm pretty sure the Warcraft movie is going to look fucking spectacular and I trust Duncan Jones to make a watchable film.

I'm kinda worried it'll turn out like Fade said - they've got so many years of lorebuilding under them now that unless they REALLY narrow the focus of the movie, it'll have too many irons in the fire for the audience to really get invested in any of them.

I hope that they will. As far as I know, they're putting the focus of the plot on the initial meeting between humans and orcs.

I count myself a casual Warcraft fan at best (only played the first two games, and the expansion to the second, and that was a long time ago) but I'll probably still watch the movie. I'll report back on how easy it is to follow for a non-fan of the games.

So I've been arguing with this guy online for a few days about Johnny Storm in the new Fantastic Four movie. He argues that they ruined Johnny's character by making him black. He says similar things about Nick Fury, Electro, and Heimdal (the latter being that the Norse gods should be all white).

My point is that in all cases, the characters' skin colour is not a key component to their character. This is unlike, say, Black Panther, where his race and culture is a major component.

Yet this guy continues on and on. The more he continues, the more racist he sounds. Heh, at one point he mentions Kamala Khan, the new Miss Marvel, calling her "Indian." Given that she's Middle Eastern, it goes to show how informed this guy is.

I'm not sure why you want to argue with someone who's clearly racist. I doubt you're going to undo years of irrational thinking. The fact that he didn't say making the new Fantastic Four movie ruined the Fantastic Four clearly shows he doesn't know what he's talking about.

And for the record, Kamala is American, or more specifically, New Jerseyan. Her family immigrated from Pakistan. :) (Now, if he wants to argue that making her from Jersey ruined her character...;))

*looks her up* Well, I'm an idiot. So she is Indian, then. Whoops.

For the record, here's where the argument is going on. It starts on the second page, in my reply to someone with the name "Yukushi." The other guy steps in soon after.[DOUBLEPOST=1439383207,1439383138][/DOUBLEPOST]
Not entirely. A lot of Pakistanis do not like to be called "Indian". They want to make it very clear they are from Pakistan. But again, she's American.
Gah, I'm making myself out to be a real asshole here, aren't I? And again, I meant of descent. Yes, she's American, but she's also Pakistani in terms of her originating culture.

Nope, not an asshole at all. It's a habit most of us have gotten into. The guy is still a racist.

Oh wow. I stopped reading when he called you a 'beta male SJW'. That would have been a good moment to laugh at his face and get out of the discussion...

You know, I'm kinda glad I called him out on that, actually. It means he's able to keep digging himself this grave.
