It looks like something somebody would wear who is about to try to tell me how to get free question marks from the government.

So I think I have a new job. I'll know for sure once they check my references and I think do a background check.

It's part-time, temporary for 2 months. Office setting doing data entry, helping with the website's store front and uploading information to Ebay. With product descriptions, there might even be a little bit of copywriting, too.

I was completely upfront about my recent problems, why I wasn't working, my recent hospital stint, etc. I also mentioned that I'm waiting to hear about getting into the day therapy program at the hospital.

And...they actually sound like they're willing to work around that. For example, the guy I'd be working with (their website developer) said they could front-load my hours - normally 15-20 hours a week - to 30-40 hours a week in case the day therapy starts. Basically, training me and getting me familiar with the system until day therapy starts. And if it does (since the day therapy is 9-5, Mon-Fri), he also suggested I could work remotely from home in the evenings, after I get home from day therapy. Pay starts at $12.50/hour (a little over $1 better than minimum wage) and could raise from there. And even though it's temporary, there's a chance of working more with them.

They all seem really nice and accommodating. I really hope I can make this work, because I could use the job/money, but I could also really use the day therapy to work through my problems. The nice thing is, this is a very different environment and job for me. It's not customer service and it uses some of my other skills (fast typing, writing, editing, creativity). Even if this is only temporary, it could be the start of other things.

UPDATE: I don't think I can take the job, after all. I know, that's a pretty quick change, but let me explain.

After I'd written the above post, I got a call from my case worker in the day therapy program. She explained the program and how intensive it was. Even emotionally - and thus, physically - draining for many people. It's from 9:00-2:30, Wednesdays off, and a half day on Friday (ending at noon). But there would be a lot of homework involved. She said many people use those Wednesdays to do the various homework and other projects within the program.

It sounds like it would be a very intensive and I don't think I could juggle both. And I need this therapy in the long-term more than this job.

Just got off the phone with the place and he sounded very understanding about it. He'd keep my resume on file and I told him if something comes up again in a couple of months, to give me a call.

The place I work just fired 4 people in my department, roughly 6% of the crew. So we're back to being short staffed, with just enough people to function.

A couple of them were really irritating. I'm now considering ratting out another, greater irritant.

That sounds like an incredibly responsible decision.

Apparently we've now hired a new accounting/HR person to replace the one who just quit week before last. That's good. She's gonna be in Midland getting trained for two weeks. She has a background in broadcasting and specifically in traffic! That's good! We might have actual redundancy of skills so somebody is allowed to get sick occasionally! The metaphorical cherry on top though? The boss tells me she's a redhead. Nice.

Here's hoping the owner and his pet don't run THIS one off.

It's good to have dreams I guess. ;)
At this point, I honestly don't know what is less likely - me getting to take time off for christmas this year, or me having an affair with the new hire. If either of those things happens, I'll be buying a lottery ticket.

Look, you've been doing all kinds of weird things lately. Talking about registering Democrat, preordering games. I think I should start building my fallout bunker tbh.

You make me sound like a buzzfeed article. "You won't believe what Gas Bandit did next!"

Well, time to file a sexual harassment complaint.

Kidding. My Improv enrichment class has been acting really selfish--stealing scenes to amuse themselves instead of supporting their scene partner. So the theme of today's class was "who's the show for?" I asked them if they plan to run around on the stage with no focus for this show they want to put on. I asked them if they ever wondered why no one was laughing at the random in - jokes and references that don't mean anything to anyone else. Then I did a song and dance routine that ended with a pie in my face.

They cried out, "Why would you do that?" While laughing.

"I did it for you guys," I said, "to make you laugh."

The one quiet boy in the class said, "We need to think more about our audience."

Mission accomplished.

Don't mind me. I'm just taking that post over to the Epic Win thread. :D

First full paycheck from the new job. No extra days, but some OT from delays in getting out the door some mornings. I'd have needed 2 full days of OT at the old place to get the same amount.

Phone bill is paid, and I still have left over about what I would have had from a full paycheck from the old place. And what if the bill wasn't artificially inflated by upgrading phones and adding an iPad last month?

So now it's beyond time for a record store run. I haven't been since before I went on vacation. That ends this morning, and I should make it home in time to get plenty of sleep before work.

I really, really, REALLY wish that you'd have been our teacher for our Theater Company class in HS, then.
