Fallout 4 - Power Armors for EVERYONE!

I keep an optical drive around because I have archives of stuff on CD still and I don't want to go through it all and organize it.

I took Tuesday off. [emoji2]

My buddy booked all of next week off. Although in the meantime he's decided he's got way too many games on Steam still unplayed. I think he's gone finally get around to playing Borderlands 2.

Me. I'm kinda done with video games for now. Maybe for good.

But this was the game that I would've been waiting for.

So a buddy of mine has a son turning 16 today. But since my friend was out of work for over a year, things are still pretty tight. He asked if someone could send his son cards. Instead, says I, I'll buy him Fallout 4. So I did. And then I found out someone else already did.

So...I have an extra copy. So my question is: Should I find someone here who wants it and give it away or should I make it the prize in a contest in honor of North_Ranger?

To no one's surprise, the main story is trite and barely there, the characters are bland as is the writing but there's lots and lots of stuff to do.

Bethesda!

Thank you. I really appreciate it. But as I said in the PM, I was joking. There are a lot of forumites that deserve the game more than a lurker like me.

Meh, 500 messages later you're not really a lurker :p
I wouldn't mind some sort of contest, but I would mind it going to someone who's not really interested - that'd be a shame. I may pick up FO4 eventually, in two or three years, on a Steam sale at -75% - but I honestly wouldn't want it now. If you're genuinely enthusiastic and want to play it, why not? Dave can post a sticky asking for those who're really into it but haven't been able to buy it for some reason and raffle it out between those, I guess. but you'd still be one of the candidates:p

The truth is I do want it. I just feel bad about it. I already got assassins creed from Dave.

I can understand that. So just ask yourself:
a) is there someone else who you think would really deserve it more and would want it as much/more? If so, point him/her out. If not...why not accept it?
b) would you have bought it yourself, if not for this? Eventually? If so, when? At -33%? At -50%? So reimburse Dave for that much. If he won't accept it, you can donate that much to a good cause. Considering the topic, perhaps Child's Play or something.
c) is there some other way you could feel less guilty, or "give back" to Dave/the community here? Do something for someone, make something, whatever? Heck, if you feel up to it (etc), how about making a Let's Play or so out of it, on here, like Tin's done with KSP, GasBandit's done with Space Engineers, others have done with Alien, Left for Dead, ....

Look at all you filthy casuals unwilling to set up a vpn and get the game early.

Anyways been playing for about 4 hours now. So far my impressions (no real spoilers but just in case):

-The intro is rock solid, like most Bethesda games. Very interesting beginning. Don't know enough of the story to say anything about its quality yet.

-weapon crafting/modding seems fairly interesting. Upgrades are often lateral. You can turn something into a machine gun or a sniper rifle.

-there is a base building mechanic to this one that seems really interesting. Don't know enough about it yet to say more.

-All that random crap you could pick up in the last few games is important for both of these.

-melee seems more fleshed out. Blocking is an option but doesn't feel right to me.

-the inventory/UI is god damned terrible. No big surprise there. I have yet to see a Bethesda game that does this well. In this case though it's a bit more problematic since you really do need it for crafting base management.

-Power armor isn't what you are used to. I think they made a really interesting choice with this. I'll leave it at that.

-enemies seem a bit more clever.

Anyways. Game is already crazy addictive. Here's hoping I don't get my steam account suspended for unlocking early on vpn

I fucking love the new way power armor is done. At first, I was a little surprised that you don't need to acquire any training to use it first, the way you need to do in all the other games, but since your character is a former soldier, I assume he's simply already had that training.

Played until 2 am last night, got up at 6 and have been at it since.

Great game. So far no real glitches. I ran into one, but as soon as I changed the viewpoint it fixed itself.

Disappearing weapon/pipboy? That's happened to me too, just switching viewpoints fixed it for me too.

I just spent two hours clearing literally everything I could from Sanctuary.

Played for four hours tonight. I didn't do any base-building or main storyline; just picked a direction and started exploring.

The weather is interesting.
Started getting damaged by a yellow cloud and thought it was an area unsafe to enter. Then it kept moving, across where I was, where I'd been, and every lightning flash zapped me with more Rad damage. I ended up fast traveling away. So yeah, be warned--there are roaming radiation storms.

Cleared a raider hideout, standard stuff. Love the modding, and that I can equip armor over normal clothes.

Saw a couple feral ghouls and tested out my self-made sniper rifle. They went down and I went to inspect. Then five more crawled out of the woodwork and chased me through the woods like a scene from Walking Dead. I barely got out of that alive.

Just played a little over an hour today. The opening is far better than any of the previous fallout games.

Haven't had any issues other than Cogsworth getting momentarily stuck on some terrain in a house. The auto detect put my settings to ultra, so thank you new graphics card :)

I have an older graphics card and it did the same for me. Still runs real well. Still rocking the ole 2500k, which may go down as the best workhorse gaming processor of all time.

I spent like 2 hours clearing EVERYTHING out of Sanctuary.

I got stuck on a piece of junk, but a fast travel solved that.

Shit's gonna happen; the world is too big and full for it to run perfect.

I' really curious how shops and whatnot work out. I'm currently working towards local leader so I can get that up.

Only complaint I have right now is that the defense turrets seem a bit overpowered. I feel like they should require power or something.
