Games on SALE!

Elite dangerous is next. I know I have more cards coming so I'm just waiting but will pick that up as well

Car soccer? :/
It's more like rocket soccer. You are controlling a remote control car, yes, but it's a remote control car with a rocket engine that can fucking fly. It's pretty fun.

Rust finally decided it wasn't too good for a steam sale and is now $10. Thinking about getting that.
Dishonored's 5 bucks, will probably finally snag that as well.
I'll probably also get around to getting Rocket League now that it's $14.
Also considering Elite Dangerous for 15 bucks, and Borderlands: The Pre-sequel for 16 bucks.

If you are looking into Elite, you should know that purchasing season 2 (the Horizon's expansion, which just started) also nets you the base game for free. The way Elite does expansions is you purchase the expansion as a 'season' and then content is released through it throughout the year. Right now, only planetary landings are included in Horizons, but multi-crew ships and various other things are slated to be released over the year.

Aaand institutionalized/baked-in preordering as a business model just convinced me not to give these people any money. Thanks for the heads up.

You don't have to pre-order. If nothing currently released in the expansion interests you, there's no reason for you to purchase it until what you want is released. Right now, not having horizons only means you can't land on planets.

Maybe I'll get it in a year or two when they're done making the game, then.

The DLC for Dishonored (Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches) is totally worth it too.

They've claimed to have a ten year plan for updates and expansions, so...
Well, we'll see. Depends on what the price structure is, and what exactly they add. I don't begrudge ~$20 expansion packs that add things like more explorable territory and quests and stuff, but being excluded from what should be a core mechanic if you don't re-buy the game is something that just rubs me the wrong way.

Cities: Skyline's at -60%, but the expansion is only at -33% - combined it's still €22, or €25 for the Deluxe edition (which adds...What, 4 unique buildings? Is it me or is that a total waste?). Decisions, decisions.

What's the general opinion on the squeenix humble bundle?
Last Remnant - Underrated tactical RPG that is fundamentally changed from it's 360 original. I like it.
Life is Strange - I've heard a lot of great stuff about this. It's episodic though... but they give a 33% off coupon for the season pass if you pay more than average, so it's not all bad.
Tomb Raider 1-3 - If you liked the classics, sure... I don't know how they run though.
Murdered Soul Suspect - Does nothing interesting with it's premise.

FF XIV: A Realm Reborn - I think you get a month of access? Regardless, I've heard good things.
Just Cause - Lots of fun
Front Mission Evolved - A less impressive game than it's strategy game main series, this is basically a poor man's Armored Core. Not bad but not exciting ether.

Tomb Raider GOTY - This is pretty damn good.
Hitman Absolution - So is this.

Murdered Soul Suspect - Does nothing interesting with it's premise.
Also the game runs about 8 hours, given that you look for collectibles and run into a couple awful bugs that make you replay sections. And there are basically no meaningful gameplay elements - even the detective stuff feels like a worse version of LA Noire. There's a lot of other stuff in the bundle that gives it good value, but this game might have actually made the whole thing worse by its inclusion.

Life is Strange is a good, if predictable, story, but if you can't handle stupid teenagers being stupid don't play it. ;)

Also, I mean, it does have triggering things, if that is a concern you would have.

It's worth noting that FF XIV:ARR does not redeem on steam, instead you get a code for their standalone client. Worth considering if you would prefer the steam version and don't want yet another launcher.

Trying to install FF14, Square Enix does not know how to make a PC launcher. This client is janky as fuck, and has been nothing but a pain in the ass to install. Oh, I don't have enough disk space? You need 12gb? I'VE GOT 10 GODDAMN TB FREE THAT ISN'T ENOUGH FOR YOU? Oh, it -has- to be installed on the same drive as the my documents folder. That's clunky as fuck, why?

Then follows 10 minutes of trying to reset my square enix account, which I don't remember ever using ever but it apparently exists, and it not accepting my new password but won't tell me why.

Remember when you just needed to make sure you had the right sized batteries?

Bundle Stars has a Batman Bundle for $9.99. It includes the GotY editions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, along with Arkham Origins and all its DLC. Pretty great deal for anyone who has yet to snag those games.

It's the goty editions of Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Origins. Arkham Knight is not included.

I had to stare at that page for way too long to figure that out, because goddamn all those Arkhams run together.

You like Duke Nukem?
Well, it's currently 90% off on GOG until Dec 31, after which point it'll be removed from sale.
Grab your credit card and your bubble gum and get crackin'.

There are indications that there's an ARG associated with Steam's winter sale. For one thing, following certain steps in the alleged ARG will give you a "Red Herring" badge for your Steam profile. I've managed to get the badge, so I know it's not all just hot air, but thus far there have been frustratingly few steps uncovered in the ARG, which makes it feel like it's just some folks at Valve messing with the users.

This only applies to some people, but I thought I'd mention in anyway.

If you're an Amazon Prime member, all physical game pre-orders are 20% off right now. This extends to two weeks after the game comes out, so technically even outside of pre-order range (according to the site, anyway). I don't know for how long this will go for, but it's a way to save money on any upcoming console or handheld games people are planning to get, even ones without a definitive release date.

It's basically the same as Best Buy's Gamer Club Unlocked or whatever it's called. Amazon is doing this to compete directly with them.

I had a feeling it was something against a brick and mortar store.

And I wouldn't suggest signing up for Prime just for that, but if one already has it, it's a cool bonus. Only reason I might still grab Dark Souls 3 from a store is because Amazon doesn't always get pre-orders in on time. Sometimes they're early and that's awesome, but I'd really hate to have the release date roll around and not have Dark Souls 3. Other games, I'm fine waiting for though, so I'll probably take advantage of this since we already use Prime for shipping.

The prime deal is great because of that 2 week extension, so you don't have to preorder (never again!)

Even though I'm a prime member, I'll probably still never use this. I just don't buy many console games, and rarely ever physical.
