Video Game News and Miscellany

I don't know yet about Hitman. In theory it's the type of game that could do really well, released episodically. Ten main missions, a pack with 5 missions, another pack with 5 missions from another POV (whatsherface), another 5 to tie those two together into one arc, whatever - if they start off with a good engine and a good idea of where to go with the story. They could easily build it into 5x as many missions as any Hitman game before, and still have them all make sense and be fun - and people willing to put down a lot more than for "just" one game.

Of course, considering the last Hitman games, they're probably just doing it in a desperate money grab and will abandon it after 7 missions with a bunch of bugs, an unfinished story, and no idea what to do.

I joked about this not making the February release, but I really didn't think it'd be a prediction. Incredible.

At this rate, Capcom will put out a new Mega Man game before Mighty No. 9 is released.
A MegaMan Pachinko game, with Erotic Violence!

If it was Konami :p. But Capcom announced they're actually making a new Mega Man game, due out in 2017 same as the new animated Mega Man series. Inafune wished them good luck. Maybe he should've kept that luck for himself.

I heard about it, but I'm no big MK fan. I'll be disappointed if the franchise dies, but really it's almost getting to be Matrix IV-levels of "Draaaahmaaaah!" At this point, it's heading into Liefeld territory.

It's also turning into Warner Smash Bros, adding in every character of every horror franchise they have the rights to. I was ok when it was just Freddy in MK9, MK has had plenty of easter egg and joke characters in the past, but now it's like half the roster.

Tortlelands?

I was trolled by the thumbnail. I was expecting the whip down from the full moon to the manhole cover. :(

... Umm... why doesn't this new Turtle game look/sound like the really great Nick shows that's been on for years and is basically the best version of the franchise we've had for years? I get that skews a bit younger (with actual teenage looking Turtles + Teenage April and Casey Jones) but it's been absolutely fantastic. I guess this is for the fans of the 80's/90's version but that just makes me feel like we're not doing it for the younger, current fans.

100 Atari games coming to Steam

A single bundle called Atari Vault, and not just simple emulation, they're getting online multiplayer, leaderboards, Steam controller support, etc. No mention of if these are the 2600 versions, or the arcade, or what.

Considering that you can already play Atari games in your browser, this collection is going to have to be cheap, or bring more to the table.

Steamworks multiplayer support alone might make it worth it, if it's 5 bucks or so. Might even go 10.

You mean all this time there's been a Pikachu that can speak in complete sentences (to say nothing of solve complicated mysteries) and Team Rocket spent years upon years trying to steal the one that COULDN'T?

They already have a Meowth that can speak full sentences, why would they need a Pikachu as well. [emoji52]

And either just raises the question of intelligence vs humanity, free will, slavery and abuse. But that may just be me.
As has been referenced before, Team Rocket had a much better record of recruiting Pokemon voluntarily than Ash and company did.

Sure, but the thing is - as long as Pokemon are animal-like and react "kind" or "angry" or whatever, "capturing" them is like capturing a wild animal or a pet. Training them, being nicer to them so they'll come willingly instead of at the snap of a whip, great. If they show "human" intelligence, like talking, "capturing" them becomes de facto slavery. The voluntary ones might qualify as indentured laborers, but that's not that much better without an end date.

It's been shown that both Team Rocket and Ash's crew are willing to allow their Pokemon to leave if that is something they really want. Charizard's out duking it out with dragons (though he's come back to help out if Ash needs him), Butterfree is off having tons of buterfly sex, etc. Any that haven't been let go are hanging out in Professor Oak's research ranch which is basically one big nature reserve where he gets to study them in a semi-wild habitat. The only time this hasn't been the case was pre-respect Charizard, where it was basically shown that Ash was being kind of a dick by not letting Charizard be himself as long as he wasn't burning down the town.[DOUBLEPOST=1453839703,1453839657][/DOUBLEPOST]
James yes, Team Rocket as a whole, no.
James is the god damn Pokemon whisperer.

Ladies and gentlemen, I submit for you the following statement, rife with potential for incendiary rebuke:

Yo Kai Watch is better.

Well, granted, I didn't watch pokemon, so I'm mostly going off memes and tumblr posts here, so I don't know how many of Team Rocket's pokemon were captured by James as opposed to Jesse. Though, a quick google did show me that she did on at least a few occasions capture pokemon the old fashioned way.

It actually looks a lot like the current IDW comic series, which I think is pretty cool

Sure, and the Native Americans are glad they're in reserves where they can live the way they want to. C'mon. It's a prison, no matter how pretty you make it.

To be clear, I'm only trolling here.

Hey, I was singing Yo-kai's praises last year. I got bored soon enough, true, but it at least felt like a real RPG. And though the shows are both dumb, Yokai seems self-aware about it enough to become batshit crazy.

I still like Pokemon a lot, but I'm sick of the formula. That's probably why spin-offs like Great Detective Pikachu and Pokken Tournament look appealing. I could go for a new Pokemon Snap as well. All that said, I still would love to see a Pokemon RPG that felt like it had characters and a story in the way more engaging RPGs do.
