The company I work for went through a Boaty McBoatface thing a few years ago. We had this new product, and there was a contest to name it. My name won, and I got the prize (an iPad), but they told me they weren't going to use the name. They decided just to call it "Company Acronym What it Does" instead. Snooze. What do I care? Free iPad.

This woman I know at work is 37 weeks pregnant (not mine!) and today was her last day before heading off on maternity. This morning, on my way in, I saw her hanging out in the smoking area, puffing on a cigarette.

I'm really glad the kid's not mine.

Settle a bet for me.

No one else could hear Scooby Doo talk, right? Just Shaggy?

Like if Fred asked where the monster went, Scooby might point but that's non verbal. Or he might point and say "that way" but then Shaggy would do it too, so it's possible Fred didn't hear Scooby and is just going off of what Shaggy said.

Maybe once they introduced Scrappy eveyone could hear him, but I'm almost certain that originally no one but shaggy could hear him.

I am interviewing interns today.

I am aware that when most people say that, it sounds moderately pervy at best, but when I say it, it sounds downright filthy.

Hunh. Apparently I've gone so long without playing something on steam that all the games have aged off the steam card in my signature.

You complain when video games slow down your production, you complain when your production slows down your video games. FFS pick a side here. ;)

I've had my eyes on thermal imaging cameras for years, and this year have almost a good reason to get one, so selected one which I put a pricewatch on ( camelcamelcamel.com ) so I could get it at its lowest cost. Today the site reported that the $1,000 camera I wanted is, in theory, available for $450 used on amazon. The seller is brand new and has only listed a handful of these cameras (and nothing else), though, so my expectation is that it's too good to be true.

However, Amazon seems to have a pretty good resolution process, and I decided to take the leap and buy it anyway.

If I'm lucky, I'll end up with a used but working FLIR E4 camera which I can hack into an FLIR E8 camera (hardware is the same, software limitations only) which is worth $4,000, for almost 90% off.
If I'm unlucky I get to argue with Amazon about a bad seller for a few weeks awaiting a refund. If I'm really unlucky I'll be out $450.

Assuming I receive something I'll be opening it on video just in case I need evidence for a dispute resolution case, but Amazon's A to Z guarantee, which basically covers condition of item and delivery, should hopefully protect me well enough.

I'm rating this transaction 4 out of five anxieties.

Neat! I used to love using thermal cameras for work.

OK new idea for TVs Survivor; First World vs Third World.

I have finally gotten to the point in life where I make enough money that I don't buy generic/store brands any longer.

Which stops me from wasting an entire week's worth of purchases because the store does not check the dates on expiring diet colas. Coke and Dr Pepper's distributor is much more aware of the dates on their deliveries.
