Minor victory thread

My new work laptop arrived today. Spent some of the evening tidying up and figuring out how I want to do my cabling to integrate it into my current setup.

If everything works as planned, I should be able to keep my 3-monitor setup for home, and seamlessly have a 4-monitor setup for work :D Switching between the two should take between 2 and 15 button presses depending on what works out and what doesn't, and whether I want both machines on at the same time.

Well it was twenty years ago today
That Mrs. Fadey swept our boy away
They've been going on for quite a while
But he's rarely ever cracked a smile
So may I introduce to you
The couple joined for all these years
Mrs. Fadey and her stony-face-ed ma-aaan

Guy who does our lawn has been unreachable for most of the spring. Grass has gotten to calf height and has been causing me no end of stress because 1) I am no longer healthy enough to do it myself, and 2) IT WON'T STOP FUCKING RAINING even if I wanted to.

So today I struggle to get a small flat section cut with our old manual reel mower. I leave it on the patio thinking either someone will take pity and finish the job, or they will take pity and steal the thing. I then go in to work to see if maintenance knows a guy who can do our lawn. Arrangements are made for about a week and a half from now.

While I'm out running around Pittsburgh, the regular guy reappears and the whole lawn is done. :D

My lawn needed mowing about a month ago. My evenings are tied up with either after school activities or watching Q. My weekends are either working on the addition or visiting dying grandparents. I'm hoping I can find some time this weekend. The cats are able to hide in it now... Need to finish some plumbing and get the camper ready for memorial weekend though.

What I wouldn't give for some time to just sleep.

Mom finally went to the doctor about her knee. The replacement surgery was a success... until her kneecap went all wonky. Now she can hardly move at all. BUT the orthopedist has referred her to his colleague who will likely suggest surgery. Which hopefully will restore her to being a functioning adult again.

There's a surgery to make you a functioning adult? Where do I sign up?

My company is finally getting project work again. I've never been so happy to see rising prices at the pump.

My mom liked the Suzuki I used to have because it was easier for her to get in and out of than the Sentra. So I check Carfax for an Aerio SX within 500 miles of me. I find one in... the Bronx. I refine the search to AWD. That's the only hit. ~$4300, one owner, no accidents. I could pick it up and bring it home instead of returning on the train next month. Hmm...

Hmm...

(and of course Comcast email goes down so I can't email my sister about it. I've already messaged the dealer through Carfax.)

The search for the Police Interceptor started out as a joke. Now it's looking to morph into actually acquiring a new (to me) car. When mom and sister were finally up and I mentioned the ABS and AWD (the old Aerio was FWD only), the "hmm"s turned to "ooh!"s. There will be a discussion among the family to see what we can collectively scrape together to just go ahead and pay cash. I've already got all my monthly bills paid off for the month, so the next two paychecks are clear except for food, gas and vacation. Setting aside that $400 for the hotel is looking like an awesome move on my part. :)

So if all goes well, I'll "get" to drive out of NYC instead of taking the train. :p

Unless he gets really lost and ends up on Long Island, we already know how the first half of his drive will go:

(Just combine NYC and Long Island as "Driving in NY", because that's usually how it goes.)

I bought chocolate! More specifically I bought Swedish (sortaly) chocolate through amazon.com, Marabou Chocolate. I haven't had Swedish chocolate in years. These were spectacularly overpriced and I'm going to devour them all!

Tomorrow was going to be my wedding day and I've been dreading it almost literally since the breakup. Thankfully, I actually took the initiative to make plans and keep myself busy rather than drinking alone and feeling sorry for myself. Should be a good weekend.

They reopened our movie theaters. Just in time to see Civil War and the new X-Men movie. Now if I only could convince Veronica to enter to a movie theater ever again...
