Minor victory thread

I pulled over for a snapping turtle that was trying to cross a main road. By the time I got out of the car, a few other people had stopped as well. We picked it up and a nice couple put in their car. They brought him to Lake Bryan so at least he won't get run over now.

Must just be the time for it. I saw more than a couple just on my trip to work yesterday.

We're not quite up to peeper season yet, though.
My route takes me between several rivers and driving it can get ... squishy.

It is about time for the road across my neighborhood dam to be literally crawling with hundreds of frogs. Shockingly few get killed each year.

Turtles love gravel road shoulders to build nests.

I think you just cock blocked that turtle.

What's that, Kati? Your kneeling computer chair we've been talking about finally broke and isn't repairable?
Oh hey, here's a $100 Amex gift card on my desk left over from Christmas. And it's never been used!
Well, at least there's $18.40 left for me to go wild with.

I just found a bunch of Orchestral Balder's Gate music I didn't know I had. Woot!

Also my sister-in-law just went into labor! Soon I will be an aunt! Too bad I don't live anywhere near her so I can't just play with her baby all day.

Wouldn't that cut into your game playing time? Doesn't sound like a good trade to me.

That's where you are wrong sir! Playing with babies that aren't your own is amazing.
I will respectfully disagree. Babies are only eating, pooping, and crying narcissists. I prefer to interact with "children" once they acquire some age and experience. (No, not in a creepy/sick way.)

I feel very awkward around other people's kids. That's why I like to play with babies who can't really reason or talk to me yet. ;)

Went to bed at 7:30, but by 12:30am I was wide awake. Had to force myself to stay in bed until 1. Now I'm having coffee and cereal before the last minute chores and then off to Pittsburgh and the train station.

Even though it is intended to be temporary, mom will be going to a nursing home to recover from the knee surgery. She's not going to the rehab hospital because there won't be the required daily rehab to allow her to stay there. The leg needs to be immobile for a while first. And that's also why coming back to the house isn't an option yet.

This is likely to stretch into months, because her hips are, as the doctor put it, shot. The initial plan is to have hip replacements done while she is in the facility before she comes home.

We were originally thinking she would spend time at the rehab hospital, so I set up my old laptop for her. Looks like brilliant planning now. I just need to sync up Firefox from her desktop PC and she'll be set.

tl;dr: I'm still going to NYC today, mom won't be coming home until hips are done, follow DarkAudit on Snapchat for vacation pics. :D

Will wonders never cease. Broadway Baptist camp retreat, where the reunion is, has WiFi now. I remember when it only had window-mounted A/C and folding chairs.

We had a four day weekend in Taiwan. Due to my whining during previous holidays about not having much gaming time, my wife decided to just let me game to my heart's content for four days. Apart from reminding me to eat and sleep.

For stress relief, I decided to play Saints Row IV. Marvelously cathartic game. Managed to complete most of a run-through during the four days.

Cranky's secondary (i.e., former/old) computer wouldn't boot today. Just gets the BIOS screen and it sits there, doesn't even start the memory test.
I come home from work (at 11:30) to hear about it and go take a look. Maybe it was just too hot today and needed to cool down? Nope, when demonstrated for the tech guy (me) it does the same thing. I notice that he has his USB3.0 thumb drive plugged into the front port and unplug it.
...and the computer immediately continues on to the RAM test and continues to boot up flawlessly to the login screen.
"Huh," I muse aloud, the Flash drive dangling from my finger. "Guess you probably shouldn't leave this in there when you're not using it, eh?"
I hand him the drive and as I leave the room I can hear him practically yelling at the monitor, "That's it? That's all it was? All day???"
