Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

Well, it's either former employees slinging shit because they are FORMER employees (seems possible, but opening themselves up to HORRIFIC libel charges) or the company is lying its ass off.

My bets are towards the 2nd.

Probably. Zuckerberg is infamous for fucking over people once he has what he wants from them.

Zuckerberg has claimed the desire to change the world, and it would surprise me very much if he didn't use the power he has in order to attain his goals.

No, no "using power" is something only evil old white men do, not Cool Young Dudes With Ideas!

...They leverage their potentiality, or some such, I guess.

@MindDetective: I didn't say that was necessarily my opinion, just a typical quote/platitude saying what the others were saying.

That said, sociology is, through statistics, more of a positive science than psychology is. Lots of people just don't consider the humane sciences "proper" science at all.

“People are stupid. They will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true.”

Denbrought, you are deprived. Get thee to netflix and look up Malcolm in the Middle.
Ahhh. See, I watched that show throughout my childhood, but the channel that aired it always did so out of order and at odd times, so I barely remember anything about the show (the older brother got shipped off to... Alaska? And the youngest kid was insane).
Or work retail for like, 10 minutes.
Nah I understood the situation, just not the show referenced (I worked customer-facing IT for a very... educationally diverse audience).

The older brother (Francis) was shipped off to military school for most of the show.

I'll tell ya something that bugs me. It's the "kids know better" schtick so often employed in "heartwarming humor with an anvilicious message" posts you see everywhere.

You know what? Kids are stupid. They just parrot whatever they're told. I'm not trying to detract from the message of acceptance here, but if you spend ages 3 to 5 telling a kid it's perfectly fine to hit other people in the face as long as you say "punchbuggy" first, his first day of kindergarten will be a cavalcade of bloody noses. Matter of fact, more often than not, you have to teach the kid not to hit in the first place because violence is a natural tendency and civilization is a programmed affectation. So, don't try to use the "unsullied" to preach, because you know what? Here's a picture of a seal raping a penguin. While the other penguins stand around and watch. No bad ol' grown up or republican taught it to do THAT! You gonna say that's natural and pure? Something we can all learn from, and should emulate to be better people?

Get your shit together and don't use fallacious appeals.

FWIW, it's not a gull but a giant petrel. (If I had to guess, I'd say the gif is from either South Georgia or one of the Sandwich islands.)
Well I thought the "young gull" coloring was off for being so big, now I know.
Still the fact that it's practically presenting is...curious.

I would argue that many definitions of guidelines would lean heavily towards liberal outlets by definition.

- Are you concerned that an outlet would take money for a favorable slant?
- Are you concerned with a religious bias about an otherwise non-religious story?
- Are you concerned that an outlet would give opportunities to more than one viewpoint?
- Do you want the staff to reflect many different races and ethnicity?
- What kind of stories are you looking for?
- Etc.

Basically, what you'd considered a "trusted" news source is going to change depending on how much the particulars bother you and you're probably going to be interested in finding a news source that reflects at least some of your values. I frankly don't see Zuckerberg's activities as any better or worse than stuff Rupert Murdoch used to do with his dozens of newspapers... that isn't to say that it's GOOD (it's not, both are abominable) but that it's always been a problem with wealthy people with vast media empires.

That reminds me, have Rick Perry and his attorney general been to trial yet? I know one of the charges against Rick Perry was dropped but I haven't heard much about it since then.
