Well, yeah, they have to win something since the prize they REALLY want won't be visiting a Canadian city for an extended victory parade this summer.
That's okay, it is perfectly fine to have your own sandbox. Different strokes and all that.

Found out today that my dad's home phone number - which he's had for forty years - was changed, because he switched to TimeWarnerCharterMegaCableGlomerate.

I am... somewhat saddened by this.

That's just weird. Most places keep your number for your land line. Maybe he was hiding from robo callers. ;)

When we were told we couldn't keep our number we moved it to a tracphone ($25 to get the phone and the smallest time card to activate it), then several days later moved it to google voice and pointed it at our new phone number.

AT&T and TWC-MegaCorp aren't on speaking terms. I'd actually considered seeing if I could port my old phone # from Waukesha to my cell - nope.

Well I have to find the science notebook my son somehow managed to misplace between yesterday and today, but after that I am freeeeee from homework until August.

Too bad I am now trapped with my daughter for three months, while she cries about being bored while refusing to entertain herself. Giving her chores everytime she whines will only keep me amused for so long.

That guy who writes all the rhyming children's books pronounced his own name so that it rhymed with "voice", not with "moose".

"Your name could be 'Smith' but you can pronounce it 'yan-NOV-ski'"
"But it's spelled S-M-I-T-H"
"They're all silent, nevermind."

Touch-typing QWERTY on a split keyboard makes me feel like someone beat me over the head with a shovel.

Touch-typing Workman on that same keyboard makes me feel like I had a stroke.

These next few weeks are going to be interesting :p

I've been pronouncing Ikea right all along. It's just you silly Anglophones who insists the "i" is "aye" instead of "eeh", and the "e" is "eeh" instead of "aye".

The other day I was remarking that no one seems to get in a huff over the pronunciation of mob in video games, especially Minecraft, because it's short for mobile, and I've heard people pronounce it both as mahb and mowb, but no one ever seems to give a shit which is used.

Since we're on this topic, does anyone know if Drow (as in Forgotten Realms) is pronounced like "wow" or "row, row, row your boat"? This had been a bone of contention with our D&D circle.

:troll:[DOUBLEPOST=1464210155,1464209818][/DOUBLEPOST]In all seriousness, Drow rhymes with cow. There's an official statement on the matter.

Page 9 of A Grand Tour of the Realms (2nd Edition Forgotten Realms boxed set) states, "Dark elves, also called Drow (pronounced to rhyme with now or how)..."

Scuttlebutt says Gygax pronounced it to rhyme with "crow" but everybody around him kept rhyming it with "cow" and it just kinda stuck. I have to admit that, while I wasn't the most involved D&D player, I've only ever heard it pronounced "cow" in person.
