Video Game News and Miscellany

What is the line between Pokemon and animal in the pokeverse? Pidgeys just look like birds to me.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Animals_in_the_Pokémon_world
Real-world animals have been mentioned a number of times to exist in the world of Pokémon. Most often, they are mentioned in relation to a Pokémon category. For example, Pikachu is known as the "Mouse Pokémon" and was directly referred to in the anime as an "electric mouse", hinting that real-world mice exist in the Pokémon world. Other than this, all other mentions of animals are rare.

Super C instead of Contra? What the fuck?

And I'd rather have Life Force than Gradius, but maybe that isn't true for everyone.

Castlevania 1 - cool
Castlevania 2 - Eh
Castlevania 3 - Well, it's the best so it'll obviously be incl....FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

Star Tropics is great and really underrated, but it has a section that requires you to wet a piece of paper with a code that came with the original game to continue. Did they go in and remove that?

Or you can save up for the no-compromises Analogue Nt version which is almost 10x the price.

Apparently actually getting that company to ship you one can be a pain in the ass.

Also, Nintendo, Ice Climbers suck. It's always sucked. No one likes Ice Climbers. Stop trying to make Ice Climbers happen.

Mega Man 2 was definitely the right call, though. Kinda surprised Duck Tales and Tetris didn't make the cut when freakin Balloon Fight and DK Jr did... also, I know they're Smash characters now, but Ice Climbers and Kid Icarus were really some bad games. But maybe the better games that didn't appear had licensing issues.

Hey, at least they didn't include Urban Champion. It's like Nintendo tries to cram that into every new release.

Also, neat to see them throw in StarTropics among the batch.

Those are some odd looking controller ports.

2 is awesome, but I have a massive soft spot for 3. Ice Climbers blows. They should have put 3 in instead of that.

+ Mega Man 3
+ Castlevania 3
- Ice Climbers
- Excitebike
I'd buy that. Also maybe also throw out Kid Icarus and get RC Pro Am instead.

I can have the entire, original library on my computer in seconds if I want it. Hell, you can easily fit the entire Nintendo library on a flash drive. Why only 30 games? Why not all the Mega Man games and not just 2?

What a waste.

Licensing issues, probably, for most of the ones we've mentioned that got excluded. Especially for ones that are tie-ins to other franchises and whatnot.

Also Mega Man 1 was kinda raw, and 4, 5, and 6 were "meh," and 7 absolutely sucked. 2 was by far the best of the series, and 3 was decently close second.

As for why limiting it to 30... probably to avoid choice paralysis. It's a well known phenomenon that when you give people too many/unlimited choices, they might get overwhelmed. So it sort of makes marketing sense to go with a finite number.

But yeah, some of the choices they made were clearly not optimal.

This is a stocking stuffer kind of gift that fits right in with those same kinds of products like the Atari plug and plays and stuff like that. Something that nails nostalgia for older people.

It's not for dirty pirates like you.

And it's overall pretty cool. I hope they do a Super NES one too.

I wouldn't pirate it if they could offer the same thing.

Licensing all those games would make that little product costs hundreds of dollars and you'd end up with SO much trash.

Considering they remastered Duck Tales, I'm not surprised to see it missing.

The good NES Tetris was made by Tengen, Nintendo's mortal enemy. It not being there is not a surprise at all.

Licensing those old Disney games is probably a nightmare. You'd have to get permission from Disney and Capcom. They'd be twice as costly.

Considering Capcom just released that Mega Man remaster collection it's no surprise they only managed to get one title on the list, really.

I always liked Excitebike so I'd rather it stay, but otherwise I agree. Drop Ice Climbers/Icarus for better games.

I guess I found my Christmas present for this year.
Checked the german Nintendo site and the game list is the same. The titles were probably chosen for an international release.

If these are the HD re-release versions from the Wii/WiiU then they changed it a bit. It was ether they gave you a "letter" item that you could use in-game to get the code or they let you do it via the game's virtual booklet.

The mini-NES will apparently have no internet connection, so no way to buy other NES games from the Virtual Console to fill in the gaps of games that should be on here but aren't. As much as the VC games are overpriced for what they are not having that option makes this that little bit less desirable.

Well it is Nintendo we're talking about. They have this weird, irrational fear of using the internet in any remotely useful and streamlined way.
