Video Game News and Miscellany

"Well we gave Kojima the boot, what do we do with Metal Gear now?"

"PACHINKO"

"No no, we already did that."

"Uh, fuck I dunno, what was popular years ago but is now a tired trope?"

"I GOT IT, ZOMBIES"

"BRILLIANT"

[DOUBLEPOST=1471498110,1471497933][/DOUBLEPOST]In better news, Yooka-Laylee seems to be shaping up nicely.

Also, PC release!

Konami asks fans to keep an open mind about Metal Gear Survive.

I mean, when has Konami ever done fans or one of their own franchises wrong?

- Microtransactions in Metal Gear 5, then reinforcing them by punishing players who play offline to avoid their forced microtransactiony bullshit multiplayer nonsense.
- Almost literally every game they've ever published after the creator or creative team that made a series popular has departed, cases in point, Castlevania and Silent Hill.

Just to name a couple.

So is Astro-Boy going to have 15 murderous alter egos and find out that in the end The Ministry is behind both his enemies and his allies, and somewhere along the way a minor character will reveal a bizarre fetish? Just going off his previous works.
Alternatively, it could be a quirky, slice of life adventure RPG that reveals it's an allegory for the cruelty of players controlling NPCs before finding out the guy who was helping you the entire time was in on the whole issue.

Or it be about playing as a camera man during the robot uprising, slowly letting your news anchors die each level for views.

On a more serious note, I'm intrigued with Akira Yamaoka (Of Silent Hill fame) doing the soundtrack for this licensed game. Can't wait to see how it integrates banjos into it.

EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT: Steam offering full refunds for No Man's Sky regardless of playtime.

Posting this in other threads to make sure everyone can see this.

Titan Quest Anniversary Edition now available on Steam. Current owners of Titan Quest get upgraded for free.

Lots of changes, but what jumps out most at me:
- Complete balance rework with improvements to all Masteries, damage types, unique items and sets
- Dozens of new heroes and bosses to encounter
- Quality of life features like higher stack limits, quick item pickup, a larger stash and a speed setting
- Steam Achievements

I just might make another run-through of the game. I wonder if I can transfer my old save files.

I saw it too. I own the game on disc and on GOG, but I'm not *sure* I also have it on Steam...though I think I do. I might replay this instead of the next Diablo III season :p

The Anniversary Edition is available on GOG.com as well, but I can't find if existing owners of Titan Quest get the upgrade there, too.

Here's a link to the complete changelog. Daaaamn that's a lot of balance changes.

I've had Titan Quest in my Steam library for years, but never played it. Good game?
Like @CynicismKills said, it's fun. I've put in a ton of hours (more than my Steam history suggests, since I first played it back when I had a GameTap subscription). Just from looking through the patch notes, this fixes a lot of the minor complaints about the game, and it's always been mostly solid. I've made at least 4, maybe 5, complete run-throughs of the game with two different characters, and I'm tempted to go for another run, despite having tons of unplayed games on my list.

Pros:
- Solid combat
- Great art design (even though the graphics are dated, I think they still look good, and are very functional)
- did the whole "kill the Greek myths" before God of War made it cool

Cons:
- uneven difficulty spikes (should be improved with this version), progress may still require grinding at some points
- no random dungeon generation (personally I don't care, but I know some people hate that the level layouts never vary)

- I'm sure people without a Wii U will be excited for Mario Maker 3DS.
- Additions to Animal Crossing: New Leaf will be good for bringing people back to that.
- Regular size N3DS? -_- Oh yeah, thanks for giving people a 3DS game from 2011.
- I love Shin Megami Tensei, but right now I don't have the money or inclination to play the new one, so I'm going to wait on that.
- Mario Sports Superstars doesn't look bad, but does the multiplayer lag like shit? Probably.

That was pretty much the "we know the Wii U is dead, so here's some Wii U stuff on 3DS" Nintendo Direct. So, final thoughts:

Well, good to know there's nothing to look forward to for the rest of this year, I guess.

Except from what I understand, you can't share levels on the 3DS version of Mario Maker. Which is, in my opinion, completely fundamental to the game.

the 3DS has both wifi and infrared sharing components. You might not be able to put in online, but there really is not reason you couldn't share it locally. And really, Mario Maker should have ALWAYS been on the 3DS: this is going to be like Mario Paint in 20 years, with people talking about how it was Mario Maker that made them want to get into Game Development. Putting it on the 3DS makes it more likely young kids will get it, who are the people who need it most.

Locally a.k.a. exchange jack and shit.

I'm not against putting it on 3DS, I think fueling design is a good reason, but let's not pretend something major isn't being lost in translation.

I'm still mad about Nintendo neutering Swapnote. Therefore I'm not surprised that level sharing is shit on the 3ds.

ARK, the popular early access survival game on steam, is still in beta and hasn't finished making the core game yet. But they have now put out their first piece of paid dlc.

Players of the game are pissed, and in the day since this launched, the player base has dropped nearly 20%

Yeah, that's pretty shitty. Day one DLC is bad enough, but day negative DLC? One can only hope that people will be smart enough not to give them any more money.
