Video Game News and Miscellany

I don't return games that I've played, even if I only played them a little while. Like I'll never do what Poe does with VR games because it's unfair to the content creators.

Yes, I know how this sounds coming from someone who will stream/torrent movies. But movies have other avenues of profit whereas game creators do not.
This is a game touted to have infinite playtime, as in, you would have to live centuries to see all the planets it's generated. Two measly hours isn't stealing their hard work. It might not even give you a definitive amount of info.[DOUBLEPOST=1470934772,1470934702][/DOUBLEPOST]
Never preorder.

Never preorder.

Never.

Ever.

Ever.

Preorder.

Never ever ever preorder unless it's a Dark Souls or Dark Souls-like game from From Software; understood.

So I was watching this playthrough of a Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade dungeon and only one thing kept going through my head: Why does the bolter sound so fucking weak? A bolter shoots .75 caliber rocket propelled explosive rounds. It's too god damned big for a normal human to wield. Why does it sound like the weakest automatic rifle ever?

Here's the video in question:

That's a darn good point. The bolters in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine sound nice and chunky.

Many game developers seem to think that 40k Space Marines are just guys in armor, and not the walking embodiments of death and destruction that they are in 40k

Part of this is because Games Workshop really doesn't pair them up with Guardsmen very often, so you don't get to see the size difference. Seeing an Astartes next to a Guardsmen makes it clear that a Space Marine is basically a giant fucking monster, not a guy in power armor.

I wanted to make a "Garden Mimic" creature that would take the form of a Gazebo, archway, etc. And then an advanced giant / dire version of same, which would be known as a Pavil-Lion.

My publisher stopped returning my messages after that.

I still want to rent it first. I was fascinated with his video, but I got disappointed when I realized the animals are less interesting than I thought. The big draw for me was going to different planets and cataloging the lifeforms; that's all I wanted to do. But the description "Lego animals" and seeing that in practice was not what I'd wanted. I was hoping for form to follow function, which would lead to some really interesting stuff, but that doesn't seem to be what the algorithm dictated.

Then again, maybe he didn't play enough, or go to strange enough parts of this universe. I'll have to see for myself.
They don't seem quite like LEGO animals to me. I mean, I can kind of see it but I have seen some crazy critters. One species had something like a cobra neck for a head but with no eyes or mouth![DOUBLEPOST=1470976218,1470975880][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, two hours of NMS will not probably be enough to get a real sense of whether it will turn monotonous or not for you. I think it is all in, wait, or all out, @Dave

FFXV has been delayed to November 29 of this year from late September.

Still haven't heard if it's getting a PC release, and since I don't own a PS4 or XBone this doesn't bother me much.

The game's almost been in development as long as Duke Nukem Forever, so a couple of months delay shouldn't be a shocker.

Really the only reason it is shocking is they just had a huge event for the game where the final announcement of the night was the September release date.

But yeah, considering it's been what, 15 years? I can't say I'm surprised.

Do yourself a favor, get Enderal, a total conversion for Skyrim. This is an amazing achievement in modding.

http://sureai.net/games/enderal/?lang=en

It completely changes how the game is played. You gain experience, combat is challenging, brutally so. It's so far got a very interesting narrative. It's a followup to the Oblivion TC Nehrim which I kind of wish I had played at this point (not enough to reinstall Oblivion). Just check it out. Here's the description right from their website:

Enderal is a total conversion for TES V: Skyrim: a game modification that is set in its own world with its own landscape, lore and story. It offers an immersive open world, all for the player to explore, overhauled skill systems and gameplay mechanics and a dark, psychological storyline with believable characters.
Enderal is free and can be played by anyone owning a legal copy of TES V: Skyrim. (No DLCs are necessary.) It is developed non-commercially by SureAI, the team behind the renowned Oblivion mod "Nehrim: At Fate´s Edge" (and various other projects).
Features:

    • An open world with its own lore and hand-crafted, detailed and diverse landscapes (desert, heathlands, forests, jungles, mountains and more)

    • An unconventional story with psychological and philosophical undercurrents

    • German and English localizations, both fully voiced by dozens of speakers, many with a professional background

    • Multi-faceted, believable characters with own ambitions and motivations

    • Overhauled gameplay with experience points, survival mechanics and hard, challenging combat

    • An overhauled skill system with classes and new special abilities

    • A housing system allowing the player to design their own homes

  • 30 to 100 hours of expected playtime
I've read it's a real monster in some areas for even beefy PCs, but thus far it's been smooth sailing for me.

It's purty.

That was a pic from their site, here's one of my own from right after the little tutorial:

Little bit of rough translation since it was written in German, but the VO work so far seems really good.
