Video Game News and Miscellany

Is anything else of note coming out this year? Skyrim HD has kind of lost some of its luster. All I got left is Pokemon and I guess the X-Com 2 PS4 port.

Anything else you guys are looking forward to? Looks like I get to save my money for graphic novels next year.
Dunkey has some suggestions based on what he saw at PAX.

Steam's review system is changing to combat abuse.

Basically, any reviews originating from customers who got the game outside of Steam itself (via Steam keys from outside sources) will not affect the score. While this does mean reviews from people who bought the game through places like Humble Bundle won't be seen, it should curb the shady developers who give away copies of their games with the promise of positive reviews.

It's probably almost impossible to differentiate the codes, so while I support this move, it still kind of sucks for some. We've all gotten games from Humble Bundle and other places. Fortunately, that's the only punishment for us: our reviews not affecting the score. At least we'll still be able to redeem and play the games.

The 3DS Attack on Titan got bad to middling reviews, but the PS3/PS4 version's been getting more positive reviews, so I decided to check out a video.

The gameplay is exactly the same. It's a new game, but it plays no different; just the graphics are more detailed and you get little reward messages for ... I don't know, killing it more? I get that those little details are nice, but there's no difference in the core game.
TIL that Attack on Titan, which I had given up hope of ever playing as I'm still four or five games behind on my 360, is available on my goddamned 3DS, the only system I actually have time to play anything on.

Gods, what is that feeling? Is that...excitement? Hope? Gas? Probably gas. Still, good news for me! (Assuming I ever finish Zero Escape Dilemma that is.)

Yeah, that's Gas. He's lurking behind you, ready to tell you not to pre-order.

Make sure you get it on sale; while it's fun, it gets repetitive pretty quickly.

Man, I used to remember Koei being my favorite gaming company (yes more than square and enix). Huge fan of their History series back on the SNES.

And, once again, the consoles get Remastered versions of a game series, with the PC "remastered" versions being in some ways worse than the original.

Atlas Sighs: BioShock Remastered PC Is A Bit Of A Mess

Problems include:
- fewer advanced video options than before
- problems supporting resolutions over 1920x1200
- the same mouse accelerations problems the original had
- no 5.1 surround sound options
- crashes in Win 10

Some of these can be fixed with .ini tweaks.

Kudos for giving the remastered version to existing PC owners for free, though.
