Video Game News and Miscellany

Also feels like a Vita. [emoji14] At least in the sense of taking a console game and then walking around with it.

Looks like it.

I want to assume they're hinting at a Splatoon sequel (Splatwoon?), also, and that looked like a sort of proof-of-concept for a new Mario.

What kills me is if they launch this system with Zelda and a new Metroid, it would easily fly off shelves. I figure at best it'll be Zelda and some party game, though.

More gimmicky crap.

This is why I haven't owned a Nintendo system since the N64. The GameCube was all right, but there weren't enough games I was interested in.

Seems like it'd suck without mods in general, but the idea of a totally portable Skyrim is pretty neat.

I do wonder what the battery life will be on the screen/controllers, though.

Skyrim's no good without Skyui.
This is sort of where I am with it. I like the IDEA of this console, but there is no way this console is going to be less than 400 big boys and... for what? Yeah, I get my Zelda fix but why would I want to play Skyrim on this? Can I mod it? How would that affected by what is surely to be a tiny amount of ram in this thing?

If I can get Persona, Souls, and Kingdom Hearts on this thing... then I'll buy it. Otherwise, my cash is going towards a PS4, so I can play the games I can't get on my PC.

Pretty sure Nintendo is doing what Nintendo does, which is trying to be a side buy and not a direct competitor.

My husband's hands immediately got a cramp just looking at how tiny the controller is if you use it wirelessly with the mobile device.

That's my other main issue. I have enough trouble playing a 3DS, even the New one, because of my nerve issues causing shaky hands (and I have big thumbs). This system looks designed for dainty Trump hands.

I don't see how this thing can be all that powerful, but the 3rd party support is there for a change. I already have a PS4 though and the Wii U has been only halfway decent. I'll probably just get Breath of the Wild on Wii U since I already have that console.

This might still play 3DS games? But probably not. Nintendo wants to unite everyone under one focus, so this is going to be the system going forward, both handheld and console, for the company most likely.

I just want Nintendo to further avoid the trend of making the console have all the disadvantages of PC gaming with none of the advantages.

The little stand thing on the Switch screen is nice. It's definitely a versatile piece of equipment for all the various ways you can use it.

Personally even if Nintendo announces a price and hardware specs to my liking, I'm not going to be buying this in 2017 unless there's some must-have exclusive within the calendar year. I'm just not early adopter material and I doubt the initial release model is going to have much going for it in the realm of battery life.

I mean, even the 3DS had to be dropped in price and early buyers compensated. Nintendo just doesn't have a solid record of delivering up-front with new systems anymore.

They didn't exactly have necessities. Having a new Zelda game out the gate is definitely going to help them; they'll surely boost the attention for the Switch version as the true version, same as Twilight Princess on the Wii. Gamecube had Super Smash Bros Melee.

What did 3DS have? Zelda remake. Wii U? Zelda remake. The Wii U's functions were fine right away. I don't know how many of you had an original 3DS, but that thing sucked. Tiny ass screen, tiny buttons. The XL was an improvement in nearly every way.

That said, I just bought a PS4 in late 2014 and my wife and I each got a N3DS in early 2015. Hell, I bought a Vita at the beginning of this year. March 2017 is just too early for a new console for me. And I'm not sure how this is going to work handheld. My wife and I don't travel together each day as depicted in the trailer; our jobs are in opposite directions. If this replaced our 3DS's, we'd need two of them.

Not happening anytime soon.

Except that the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess is generally regarded as the superior version of the game.

I'm sure it is, but that's not the way they sold it. Can't be certain how things will go for Breath of the Wild. I'm sure the Switch version will have sharper graphics, but since some of it looks like a cel-shade Wind Waker style, it may not matter. Then we're just down to processing power, and since they built it to be a Wii U game first, I expect it to run fine, unlike down-graded games like the PS3 versions of Shadow of Mordor or Dragon Age 3, both of which the PS3 could not handle.

The only reason the GameCube version was superior was because it didn't have motion controls. At least the motion controls in Twilight Princess weren't that bad, just flicking your wrist, unlike Skyward Sword which I never finished due to rage at the fights which required specific strokes that my controller would never register correctly.

If a game sells over 2 million copies, it usually has nothing to do with the voice talent. I'm sure we could find a few examples to the contrary, but for the most part the voice talent is far behind things like gameplay, graphics, design, and multiplayer options. As another person already pointed out, why should voice actors get residuals for a few days work while programmers, designers, artists, and engineers (who are largely responsible for the success in the first place) get nothing?

I wish I had even the slightest inkling about how to follow through with my offhanded threat to get my foot in the door as a scab.
