But if you know it they won't have to spend money on lawyers!

It's especially aggravating since we do a lot of stuff we could get sued/fined for every single day because the owner doesn't want to spend the money that it would take to get us compliant with our contracts and/or FCC regulations.

I hurt my back at work two days ago.

Was I lifting something too heavy for everyone else in the office? Did I heroically shove someone out of the way from a falling tower of boxes?

No, I bent over to use the water cooler, which I normally don't use, and stated that way despite my back telling me "hey, this hurts. Hurting more now. And more ..." and then later did it again. Pains been getting worse since then, and I had to be off today so I could go to a doctor. Now they want me on meds and phys therapy. It feels like a lot over a small thing, and yet I'm struggling to put weight on one leg.

I'm disproportionately angry with myself. Like, rage levels spiking because my wife is having to do things for me and I'm supposed to be helping her. The money and the hassle, all because I bent wrong at the damn water cooler. So stupid.

Back injuries are crazy things, regardless of how they come about. I don't know your history with physical therapists, or what part of your back you've hurt, but mine was able to give me some simple yet effective exercises I could do at home that were great for relieving back pain (lumbar region) and I didn't actually have to go in on a weekly/daily basis. Granted, that was 20 years ago.

I once threw out my back for 2 weeks of hurt by trying to catch a glass falling off the table. If you hurt your back by "lifting something really heavy", it's usually "just" muscles (with " because I know that can hurt like a b**** and cause long-term problems too). Hurting it because you're doing two movements at once (rotating and leaning forward, for example) can be the joint stuff which is harder to train against, slower to heal, and usually means trouble for the rest of your life since muscles and exercise can't replace everything.

And yes, being "helpless" is rage-inducing. Needing help for some really small things makes you feel emasculated and all that. It sucks.

It happened at work and is therefore covered by WCB. If you have any questions about how it works, I would be happy to help.

Back injuries are evil and can be caused by totally random things. I hope the meds and physio help and you're feeling better soon.

I threw my back out the day before my 21st birthday shaving my legs in the shower. I had to get carried out of the bathroom and couldn't get out of bed for the rest of the day. I WAS able to kind of limp the next day, but it basically ruined all of my plans for days.

Thanks, guys. My wife has to deal with this all the time because of spinal degenerative disorder, so I'm used to being the one to help her.

It happened at work, but it wasn't really a work-related injury. I'm not sure I could swing that here, right? I did it to myself, after all.

It might depend on local laws, but here, if it happens at work, it's covered under work insurance/work comp. Doesn't have to be in any way caused by or related to the job or things furnished by the employer.
