Oh, and while we're dogpiling (har) on United, remember that time 4 years ago when their "Petsafe" program basically nearly killed a dog with apathetic neglect?

That leaked letter to employees from the CEO isn't really painting the company in all that much better of a light, no matter how hard he tries.

Dagnabit, dadgumit! Turns out the Berning Red ink is sold out at the store I tried to buy it from over the weekend. They've offered other reds, but that's the one I really wanted, if just ironically. I found another shop that might have it, but this time I asked them if they actually have it in stock before I attempt to order.

(I suggested they send the Nikita red, which is a bit more expensive and comes with a free pen, in compensation. Yes, @GasBandit, THAT Nikita. Keeps the theme going. If that isn't an option, there are a couple other reds I have in mind. Antietam, which is based on an ink sample found at the battlefield and looks a lot like dried blood on the page, and V-Mail Raubal, which is another slightly bloody looking red.)

Interviewing candidates to replace the underlings who've handed in their notices has given me a clear indication of just how few people in Taiwan can do our job. On the one hand, this makes me feel good about myself, yet on the other hand it means recruiting sufficient manpower to make up the losses will likely be a long and painful process. So, basically, "minor win" and "minor rant" balance out to "random crap".

Maybe someone should stop scaring off the staff, Pepe.

You know that's not gonna happen. I'm just waiting for the "I was interviewing this really hot girl, and she stood up in the middle of the interview and said that she just got a better offer at a different place." Really just a streamlining of the whole process.

I would like to see their software package and how it chooses to kick people off of a flight.

Why didn't they count passengers waiting to board, and make the offers there. Instead they waited until it was time to take off.

They didn't do it randomly. They might say they did, but they do that because it's better than saying, "We're taking the guy who booked last." or "We're taking the person who paid the least for their ticket." Because THAT'S how airlines determine who gets bumped. This random stuff is just BS.

So, Pandora is showing signs that it might be the next big internet radio station circling the drain.

I know it might be heresy, given my occupation, but I still miss launchcast :( 3 bucks a month for an amazon-like music system that conformed itself over time to what I liked, and thus introduced me to new music I would have otherwise listened to. I guess 3 bucks a month wasn't enough to sustain it. And now, hell, here I am a premium subscriber to di.fm for more like 7 bucks a month, now.

The heavens just open and the wrath of god just came pouring out. Thunder, lightning, flash floods, the whole works. The house next door to where I work had a tree fall on it a few minutes ago. It's days like this I'm glad this building was built to bomb shelter specs.[DOUBLEPOST=1491926951,1491926715][/DOUBLEPOST]Looks like it got Sparhawk and Sixpack, too... Brace yourself, @fade , it's coming for you next.

Aaaaaand we just got struck by lightning. Bad enough to overpower our countermeasures that we put in the last time we got struck by lightning. Fried a sound card in the automation for our big moneymaker station. Engineer is in Hearne, so I had to dive into the cable rat's nest to figure out a way around it. Managed to get it back on the air, with the engineer helping me over the phone, but the nature of the jerry rig to get it back on until he can get here for a more permanent fix means that the air jocks can't be live.

Oh, and I hadn't even mentioned, the station I'm in charge of went off the air this morning at 9:30 due to power outage at the transmitter site, and I've got that going on a low power backup transmitter here at the main office, too. Didn't think it was noteworthy to post about at the time, but now all the other shit is blowing up, why not mention it too.

What a day this is shaping up to be.

Ha ha, wow. So, here's the post mortem on my station's primary transmitter, from our Engineer:

=Email begins=

Update: Multiple casualties were suffered today, some attributed to lightning.

--Hearne Utilities had a blown high voltage primary fuse in the transformer case for the equipment building. It took some time for them to locate a replacement fuse and get it replaced.

—It was found after power had been restored that a serious high resistance joint had occurred in the meter case, resulting in a near fire condition and damage to the meter case. Hearne utilities contacted Templeton Electric and they responded and repaired the meter enclosure. Power was once again restored. It is unknown if this failure was caused by lightning or was pre-existing and just happened.

—After reliable power was once again available, it was discovered the Transmitter had developed a high voltage short, tripping circuit breakers when turned on. This problem was traced to a shorted high voltage capacitor in the transmitter power supply, typically caused by lightning. Replacement capacitors (2) have been ordered. Delivery is expected Thursday.

—Station is continuing operation on the backup at home office, awaiting parts.

Soooo yeah... ZAP KABOOM.

Whereas God apparently has a sense of humor when it comes to Taiwan.

Here in Taiwan we have water shortages almost every year in the spring, as our reservoirs are gradually drained until they're refilled by the typhoon season. We had a couple of very rainy days lately, which would've alleviated the water situation... except the news reported that the water our primary reservoir in northern Taiwan got from two days of rain would be enough for just one day of use. The reservoirs in southern Taiwan didn't fare much better either. Apparently, somehow, the rain managed to miss our reservoirs.

I DID not, it was creepy, and in all honesty I was too scared to tell the scary man to fuck off. Dude had a cane with him, and I did NOT want to see if there was a sword in said cane.

I hate to admit this, but Domino's just reopened in St. Albert for the first time in like 15 years. I haven't eaten Domino's since my mom used to get my brothers and I the 3 on 3 special when she wouldn't be home for dinner.

I ordered a pizza. It was dirt cheap in comparison to Pizza Hut or Papa Johns or Pizza 73 or Little Caesar's or Panago or any of the other chains I am not remembering.

I, again, hate to admit this, but it was fucking good. Like, better than all the chains (except maybe Panago). If I want good pizza, I'd still rather have Royal or Capital or one of the other local joints, but they're all WAY more expensive than the 10 dollar medium feast pizza I got from Domino's.

I have to agree. They really did, as they said on their commercials, put some real effort into improving their pizza a few years back.
