I think it might be more accurate to say that, after 3 movies:
Marvel had a breakout hit followed by two movies that were 'good enough'.
DC started with a movie with seriously mixed critical and fan response followed by two entries that made people question whether the filmmakers actually knew how to make movies.
After 2 more movies:
Marvel had two critical and financial successes.
DC has the one that everyone hopes will be good.
And one that no one is expecting to be any good, but hopefully it won't kill the brand so they can double down on the Batman and, hey, we're going to use the Rock in one of these someday.
Personally, I enjoy most of the Marvel movies. Of the first five, I think Iron Man 2 is disappointing and enjoy the other four quite a bit.
I have mixed feelings on Man of Steel. Taken on its own, it does some things very well. The problem is that it also has several flaws that are hard to get past. And the tone of the movie, while not a deal breaker, feels like a poor fit for Superman.
